I have managed to get F1 2020 working successfully using Opentrack for the head tracking, but the performance even on the lowest resolution and ultra low graphics settings is unplayable using Geometry 3D (6 FPS according to the benchmark test). Z-Buffer 3D works fine but looks so much worse than Geometry 3D.

I am trying to work out if my system simply can’t handle it or if there is another reason. I have the following:

    Ryzen 5 2600x
    Radeon Vega 56
    16GB Ram
    X470 Aorus Motherboard

I have turned off V-Sync and Oculus Asynchronous Spacewarp and tried different graphics and resolution settings but it doesn’t make any difference.

Has anyone got it running smoothly on a similar system?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Im trying to play games like warhammer vermintide 2 and mirrors edge catalyst. I can get them working great, warhammer even has geometry 3d, but I like to use controllers. Whenever I move with them, i cant look around. looking right makes everything else go left, vice versa, and the same with up and down. It doesn’t happen in games like titanfall 2, and I just want to fix it. Please help

I use the Vorpx key to get rid of the Vorpx Mouse (I have it set to Numbpad 0 for easy use) but, just randomly as Im playing, it just pops up again. I wouldnt mind it much but it happens pretty frequently – like Ill disable it and not even 2 minutes later, its back. If it happened every 20 or 30 minutes I wouldnt mind tapping Numpad 0 and just moving on with my life but at this point its just a bit frustrating to have to reach over and tap Number 0 every couple minutes

Does anyone have a trick to stop this? Im willing to try anything (well almost anything lol); is there a trick in Vorpx to PERMANATELY shut it off for a session or does anyone know a good game controller configuration software I could use to set a button on my controller to NUMPAD 0? I have RDR2 on Rockstar’s store unfortunately so I cant use Steam’s controller configuration utility as far as I understand it. Ive tried linking the exe to Steam but have not had any luck with getting controller configs to load in the actual game.

    Thanks for any help!

The latest nVidia driver prevents vorpX from attaching to the game. The next vorpX version will have a workaround for the issue. Until then rolling back to 445.87 solves the issue.

Please ignore the message you might get from the game about updating the driver to a newer version.

Hey guys, I am having this issue with all my VorpX games.

In the Full VR mode, no matter how my head turns, the screen or the world rotates together with me, the same speed, same direction, as if this giant screen 1 inch away from my eyes is literally glued to my eyeballs. So I have to be very careful not to move my head even a little.

Also, only geometry mode gives a real sense of depth, any other methods like the z-adaptive look very flat, and most times have artifacts.

I tried all the settings, all the profiles from the VorpX cloud, nothing works. Any ideas? I am using Oculus Rift CV1 with the latest drivers. This problem has been bothering me for many years. How did you guys play all these cool games with VorpX, while I can’t make any game look OK?

Right now I can only use it like a 3DTV, even that feels laggy on a 2060 RTX card.

    Thanks again!

I understand that you personally might consider this particular feature so important that it warrants to invest a lot of time for discussing it with me and I’m glad that you do so. Nothings stays unread, and everything gets considered.

There may however occasionally be one or the other reason why not every single wish might get implemented, even if technically it would as easy as this one. Sometimes other considerations like ease of use or keeping the number of options sane might be considered more important than a particular feature wish.

After 40h, KCD on VR has blown my mind, maybe my Best experience on VR until now.

VorpX has largely exceced my expectations, and does an excelent job, and performance impact is not so big on games that allow custom 8:9 resolutions like this one. You still need a very powerfull GPU for playing this on FullVR/G3D with a good resolution, you would need it even with native VR support.

And the excelence of VorpX, with a game like this one, that is diegetic, and doesn’t use scale/2D trick, makes it play like a native gamepad game (RE7). But also KCD maybe be the best game of the generation, awesome !!!

BTW, you need very strong VR Legs for playing this on FullVR

To accomodate preferences like yours the max value has already been raised beyond what it was originally and what is necessary for its intended purpose. There will be no further changes in that regard, the current max is already way beyond the point where nearby objects can be succesfully fused into one by your eyes/brain. More just doesn’t make sense, actually not even the current max really makes sense typically. If you like things even more tiny than they already are at max strength, a tiny display (read: monitor) is the right choice, not a VR headset that fills your entire view.

Apart from that: there isn’t a single native VR application, first or third person, that has a ‘3D-Strength’ option at all. TBH I’d happily get rid of it entirely too if there weren’t a few unfortunate reasons to keep it.

Edit: I’ll probably add an option to scale down the virtual screen with the next update. Considering the low resulting resolution personally I really have no clue why one would want to do that instead of just using a monitor, but that should finally help those who want to recreate their monitor S3D experience in VR.

If afterwards anyone still complains about not being able to come close enough to their monitor S3D, I’ll jump out the next best window… :)

In official profiles typically base parameters for G3D are dialed in to provide natural scale at about 1.0, which is what VR is about. So if you crank up the 3D-Strength to 5.0, which usually is not recommeded, a character that is 2m big becomes about 40cm small. I’d say 40cm instead of 2m should be dollhouse enough even for those who like that effect.

Ideally a ‘3D-Strength’ setting shouldn’t even exist in VR, no native VR app has such a thing. I’d happily get rid of it if the world scale of all games was 100% safe to determine under all circumstances.

On a sidenote: I bought a pair of early 3D glasses in the late 90s and used them maybe five times because I really disliked how on a monitor stereo-3D makes everything look even smaller than it is anyway. Never looked back. VR is a godsend in comparison, finally no more 3D for the sake of 3D, which for the most part just looks funny. Tough to feel like a video game badass when your on-screen self looks like a garden gnome… VR with with realistic stereo settings is much more immersive than that. Not more is better here, real is better. :)

Maybe I sounded a bit harsh, sorry. Wasn’t my intention. It just becomes *really* tedious when even the smallest things are questioned after giving a detailed explanation why they are handled the way they are handled, including a way to deal with your issue.

Nothing is ever done to ‘penalize’ anyone, there may however occasionally be reasons to do one or the other detail not exactly the way you personally would prefer it to be. I’m always happy to explain why something is done like it’s done, but that doesn’t make much sense if such an explantion sparks a lengthy discussion whenever someone doesn’t get the reply they want to hear. Makes meaningless feelgood support replies look more desirable than an actual and true explanation.

I’m 99% sure that if that option would exist, we would now discuss why on earth vorpX breaks sneaking/sprinting in game XYZ. And if it weren’t we who have that discussion, I would have it with someone else.

However, since I was well aware that almost certainly not everyone would like the default setup, you can either map the vorpX actions to the start/menu buttons instead or disable them altogether. So you can easily deal with your issue that way.

Sometimes I really think it would be better to not reply to such questions at all instead of trying to help and explain. Being one of the few developers to whom you have direct access doesn’t really mean I have the time/desire to make a lengthy discussion out of even the smallest detail decision.

Hey Ralf, have a question, which aspect ratio would be best for playing with “aspect ratio correction” set to “letterbox 2”?

The thing is that using 4:3 res i get really big black bars that won’t go away even with zoom at max, i guess “Pixel 1:1” is the most correct setting but the scale of the world tends to give me a headache after a while and i just can’t play long sessions that way.

Not sure if changing the aspect ratio would change the black bars, in case it wouldn’t, maybe you could add a higher zoom?

    Keep up the good work.

Idk why i thought SVP was free software, at least it has a 30 day trial version.

My review: it’s a pretty good GUI for ffmpeg, the neat thing is that it transcodes on the fly adding the interpolated frames but beyond that i find using ffmpeg directly a better way to get better results, as you get access to everything it offers that SVP does not use. Although SVP does automates a lot as it even deinterlaces and gives good results without any configuration (and you don’t even have to know if your video is interlaced e.g., nor anything about the source for that matter nvm, just noticed that SVPcode outputs a still interlaced video, it just isn’t as noticeable, i’m really unsure about the code they’re using bc the video looks quite fluid and it’s doing more than just adding more frames), though at the end of the day it still uses ffmpeg for transcoding.
From my tests it adds a little more artifacts than the code i use using the same mode (blend, though i probably use different extra options) even though it’s not the best mode (though the mci mode is extremely slow by comparison), but both ffmpeg and SVPcode take the same time with the same parameters (same codec, crf and preset speed),

Adding more post-processing software for real-time playback will obviously result in more demand of resources, Avisynth seems like a really great software now that i’ve started using it, my only ‘con’ is that it only works with avi natively (although you can use ffmpeg libraries for other containers which require some extra setup depending on the codecs and framerate) but other than that you can use it with any video, no need to use SVP.

As such, my advice is to use Avisynth after transcoding with SVPcode, that way you’ll bypass the resources needed by having SVP running.

About the 3D, i have absolutely no idea what you tried to say, nor why you cannot set the hmd to 90Hz, i use a WMR hmd too and unfortunately the updates have patched some of the workarounds i used to use to bypass the need of a monitor/tv but i have had no problem about the hmd 90Hz setting, only with the resolutions.

The picture will be ~ 100p if you do not expand the player to full screen. And in order to get 4k, it is necessary that the screen is 4k.

It’s generally not possible to make 1080p to 4k, but there are a lot of good old films on DVD, and here madvr can come in handy. I even started to learn how to convert video. There is such a program Topaz Gigapixel AI

    Hello,

I am reviving this thread since it is also about Thief (2014), which I grabbed for next to nothing in the current Steam sale.

It does not hook (I will investigate more this evening).

But what surprised me is that there are two pop-ups with the message that vorpX is attaching to XY.exe. I get just one such pop-up with other games (that hook OK). After some time the hooking times out and voila. Can one pop-up prevent the other to hook and vice versa?

I am a bit confused here. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Milan
