    Skyrim is one of the most played games with vorpX. If you follow the steps mentioned in the game optimizer and in the vorpX startup message, it works very, very well (despite being a bit slow in Geometry 3D). The most important thing to do is setting the FOV to 120. Do this while you are in the game, not in the main menu. Otherwise it won’t work. You can also adjust the Skyrim UI and various other things in the vorpX ingame menu to make this game a more than worthwile VR experience.

    Controller: Not sure whether I fully understand your issue. Please disable your gamepad in the Skyrim options, you will still be able to use a gamepad since vorpX has a built in gamepad emulation. If for some reason you can’t get that to work, you can also use an external gamepad emulator like Xpadder or play with mouse and keyboard.

    If you have problems with multiple programs not hooking at all, there is almost certainly something on your PC that also tries to hook into games, creating a conflict with vorpX. Various kinds of programs can cause such a conflict, the trouble shooting guide in the help has a few hints in this regard.

    Hope that helps.

    So in an act of desperation I bought this against my better judgement (which was scream NO DON’T Do IT)… This is not a beta product and you shouldn’t be charging for it. I will tell you why. And yes I am a bit hostile because if I pay for software I don’t expect these types of serious issues to happen.

    A: Skyrim (which I bought it for in the first place) is very narrow and I can’t figure out how to get it in full view. Everything is setup properly but no go.

    B: your controller overtakes the standard controls for skyrim AND WINDOWS!!!!!???? Were you a hacker who decided to go legit with this? I click on a file directory and it opens the entire directory all the sub folders like the days of win95.

    I try to open my browser it will only open in safe mode. Your program should never interfere with windows base operations. When I shut it all down it still does keeps messing with my keyboard and mouse. I totally would understand if you weren’t charging for it. BUT you are. So you get dissatisfied customers…

    C: The games I own on the games supported list that are suppose to work don’t even launch. Like fallout 3 (Vanilla) Metro last light and Shadows of Mordor (though I am not sure about that last one, I just wanted to see if it would run).

    This seems a bit like a con but Skyrim at least fires up… However it is totally unplayable due to your controller hijack. But it does actually run. Which is more than I can say for the 20 different ways I attempted to get it to run with a perception setup…

    And before there is a a ton of “BUT you can setup your keys” how bout if you actually label them in your menu clearly, instead of boxes with the keys and the controller buttons and NO WORDS!!! Do you expect me to use the force?.. I am a Jedi but reading someones mind months after the fact is the work of the Sith, probably Darth Plagus the wise could attempt it. Plus with the screen all scrunched up I can barely read your menus without eye bleed.

    Things that would make this a viable purchase are it running the games on the supported game list (seeing as how that is a promise) and that they run in full view with no controller hijack. And it not acting like a virus….

    Other than that it is pretty cool

    Alien Isolation: Please user either the native support OR vorpX, not both together.

    Battlefield: Sounds like an issue that can happen if a game is not set to the Rifts native resolution. Please make sure to set all games to 1920×1080 fullscreen for the DK2 prior to using them with vorpX. Other resolutions may result in issues similar to what you describe. This is the most likely cause of the issue.

    If that does not solve your issue, please check the IPD (interpupillary distance). The default should work fine for an avarage person, but if your IPD is wastly different from avarage you might have to adjust this to be able to converge the image comfortably.

    Just in case: You probably did that already, but if you didn’t, please also consult the DK2 Setup Guide in the vorpX help. A wrong display orientation can also lead to strange display issues.

    Ok, got my Rift a few days ago, got Vorpx today… I got it on the strength that it ‘captures’ games as they load and makes them work..

    Well for some it might, for me.. not so much.

    Yes I’m in extended. Yes I have tried the contortionist approach of pressing miriad keyboard combinations to make stuff appear on the right screen.. NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING works.

    Heres my experience. (after applying the settings from the vorpx configuration util)

    Batman Arham Asylum: Black screen on both Rift and PC, crashes PC to point of Restart

    Dirt 3: loads again to black screen.. Game working can hear it. Nothing else seems to work.

    Vanishing of Ethan Carter: Screen looks like its doubling up on itself in the center of the screen, almost like its overlapping. Cant see any of the menus, seems fov is all wrong.

    F1 2013: Fov IS all wrong, and game unplayable because view too close to everything.

    They are just the games I have istalled at the moment but this is not a good ‘start’ :(

    Any and all help will be appreciated, thank you for your patience with a noob.

    Thanks a lot! I finally got it working after fiddling with settings and restarting my comp like 3 times, lol. One question though, when I’m playing a game like Skyrim or Payday2, I’m not fully immersed in the game because I can still hit the edge of the screen with my view, and that moves the entire view off center. When I want to aim down the sights of my gun or bow, its off to the side or a little to low and I have to constantly be looking around me until the screen is re centered just to be thrown off again, anyone know of a fix?

    In reply to: Vorpx Desktop Issue

    I just purchased Vorpx the other night.

    I have this same usability issue. I understand that navigating the desktop is describe as less convenient, but that doesnt really accurately the software behavior.

    If we need the software to use the DK2 (or other VR) as the main display, then in a future version of Vorpx, the desktop usability needs to be addressed. It is impossible to see the full desktop up, down left, right because things are so zoomed in. Also, the fact that the two views are overlapping so much, is exactly as the first poster describes. You must close one eye or the other, and even then you only see a portion of the desktop screen. You can’t see the taskbar, or the left hand program window. If it is steam, you can’t see your library. etc.

    Maybe an out of game setting can be implemented to zoom out, or head tracking so you can pan the windows desktop. You need the ability to the edges of the desktop screen and for the two povs to not overlap in the middle so much.

    Getting into and out of the gaming application is extremely difficult if not impossible at times because of this software limitation right now and how the extended monitors are functioning.

    If someone has good workaround so it is easier to work with the desktop, or launch / exit applications, please share. I ask humbly that the devs make this a priority in the next release also.

    Oh yes, that is because the way the screen on the Rift is.

    If you plan to demo the Rift and show people some games while allowing others to view as well, then you’ll just have to physically rotate the monitor so it is in portrait instead of landscape. If your monitor stand won’t accommodate that, you’ll probably have to invest in some adjustable monitor stands

    Something like that, although there are other varieties that can get quite expensive, like this: http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/office-school-supply/monitor-tv-mounts/desktop-stands-and-arms/dual-monitor-arm-21w-x-3-1-2d-x-19-1-2h-gas-spring-arms?infoParam.campaignId=T9F&gclid=CIKc1_CYgsMCFRAtaQodR34AWQ

    I just finished Bioshock Infinite with dk2 and vorpx which was one of the greatest game experiences of my life. This was the steam version, running windows 7 on an evga nvidea 640 with 8 gb ddr2, with graphics set to very high. I used the following setup:
    In game settings:
    Start Bioshock Infinite without vorpx first.
    Go to options, graphics, set field of view to max.
    Ensure game is fullscreen, and 1920X1080.
    Start New Game, enter the light house, exit game.
    (Ensuring ini creation, and a good point to trigger autosave to jump in and out of game while adjusting)
    Startup Vorpx.
    Right click tray icon, Configure Vorpx, General Settings,
    Under Disaply/Monitors set to Show on Rift DK2 and disable Aero on game start.
    (I have had alot of luck with this working correctly since the patch)
    Apply and close.
    Restart Bioshock Infinite with vorpx on.
    You should be able to see well enough to continue your game.
    (Use middle mouse click edge peak if needed to enter game)
    Ingame vorpx settings:
    Once ingame push Delete on your keyboard to bring up vorpx menu.
    Click Mouse wheel to zoom back in to see menu clearly.
    On Main tab:
    Set 3d Reconstruction Z Normal
    Seperation (3d-strength) 2.00
    Depth Weighting (Near-Far) 1.00
    (These are the most immersive 3d setting I found, that do not distort quality or cause my stomach to turn)
    On Display Tab:
    Fix Chromatic Aberration On
    Image Zoom 0.67
    (This will pull the camera back far enough to capture most of the screen without taking you out of the screen)
    On Input Tab:
    HT Sensitivity .38
    HT Roll On
    HT Smoothing Very Low
    (This will seem a bit slow, once you reach the target practice area i suggest you practice till perfect learning to aim and shoot using head tracking before you proceed, and tweak these settings to what suits you. Alot of people dislike this method of shooting and want the crosshair disconnected, but having tried steamvr halflife 2 I can tell you hands down, I love aiming with headtracking. You will also want to tweak your right joystick sensitivity ingame control options to your liking, I also found that a lower sensitivity worked for me.)
    Handle Gamepads Internally Off
    Head Tracking as Gamepad Off
    (This will allow you to play with an xbox controller using in game setup, which does not coflict with head tracking for me)
    OK&Save (exit vorpx panel)
    Exit Game one more time.
    INI Settings:
    Open the following folder:
    C:\Users\(your username)\Documents\My Games\BioShock Infinite\XGame\Config
    Open XUserOptions.ini with notepad.
    Change:
    MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=00.000000
    To:
    MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=28.570000
    (This will boost your fov back far enough to make the depth feel correct)
    Save and Close
    Open XGame.ini with notepad.
    Change:
    [XCore.XScreenManager]
    bUseDefaultSafeRect=true
    SafeRectX0=0
    SafeRectY0=0
    SafeRectX1=1920
    SafeRectY1=1080
    MaxDefaultSafeRectAspectRatio=1
    To:
    [XCore.XScreenManager]
    bUseDefaultSafeRect=false
    SafeRectX0=0
    SafeRectY0=0
    SafeRectX1=900
    SafeRectY1=700
    MaxDefaultSafeRectAspectRatio=0
    Save and Close
    (This last edit alters the positioning of your hud elements. These settings will pull your healthbar, vigorbar etc inside your field of view. This will allow you to enjoy the game without ever having to use edge peak)
    Restart Bishock infinite and enjoy.

    I just had a go of Arma 3 and I am very impressed with the Z-buffer 3d.

    To change the field of view use notepad to open the file

    Documents/Arma3/user.Arma3Profile

    and set these two values
    fovTop=1.5599999;
    fovLeft=2.77;

    The Z-buffer 3d seems very effective in Arma 3. But in other games e.g. Payday 2 the Z-buffer method doesn’t seem to do much, even when 3d separation is set to the maximum. Is there any way the 3d could be strengthened or is it just a limitation caused by the particular game?

    Doesn’t F1 2014 work in unsupported mode? Normally it should work just fine with most VR related functionality fully intact, just without 3D. A profile including 3D for the game will be available in the next vorpX update.

    Head tracking wise you have two options (like in all Codemasters games):

    A. Using OpenTrack for TrackIR emulation.

    B. Emulate a gamepad axis with the head tracker:

    1. Press [DEL] to open the in-game menu
    2. Go to Input page
    3. Set ‘Handle Gamepads Internally’ to Off
    4. Set ‘Headtracking as Gamepad’ to Relative or Absolute depending on the game. You should get a grasp of what is better quickly.
    5. Map the emulated ‘gamepad’ to the look around functions in the game you want to play. Do not leave this step out, it’s vital!

    Now you are able to look around in your cockpit. The view has to be centered from time to time because of possible yaw drift (should be greatly reduced with an calibrated magnetometer). There is a shortcut for centering.

    Hi Ralf,

    Thanks for the above explanation about head tracking in F1 2014.
    The only thing I don’t understand is this:

    5. Map the emulated ‘gamepad’ to the look around functions in the game you want to play. Do not leave this step out, it’s vital!

    Could you please guide me through the various steps as I don’t know how to map the gamepad to the look around functions in F1 2014.

    Thanks in advance!

    rFactor 2 is not supported and might or might not work. Many unsupported games will work with no 3D vut VR functionality available, but there are no guarantees.

    Your convergence issues are almost certainly caused by a wrong resolution like moarveer mentions (1920×1080 is mandatory for the DK2) or by a non-ideal IPD setting. You can adjust the FOV on the display page of the vorpX ingame menu (deselect using an Oculus profile in the config app if the setting is unavailable).

    The only way I have been able to get head tracking in F1 2012 is if I have both Opentrack running and emulate a gamepad axis. I was just able to get it working in F1 2014 but it caused my system to crash, the only things I had running were Vorpx, F1 2014, and Opentrack.

    And yes, it did work in unsupported though it took several times of restarting my computer to get it working, it seems really choosey on when head tracking works. Sometimes it causes the game to pause every few minutes, other times it just crashes, rarely with a bsod. Though I haven’t been able to recreate what causes the crash, it’s completely random.

    Sometimes I can play other games and do some video editing, load up F1 2012 and play with head tracking for an hour with no issues. Sometimes it crashes as it loads after a fresh restart.

    Though I do look forward to the next update, thanks.

    Sometimes I get head tracking in F1 2012, it’s really hit or miss, sometimes it works, most times it causes my computer to hard crash. Or I have to restart my computer 3 or 4 times to get head tracking properly working in F1 2012.

    I recently got F1 2014 and I have nothing. Vorpx doesn’t even let me change the 3D, it is just off, I don’t get the option for Z-adaptive or whatever the other two options were.

    Anyone know a work around or how I can get this fixed?

    Thanks.

    Same issues here… I downloaded VorpX and it installed the “latest” runtime for me … why on earth would it do that first of all? .. I think that’s a really bad idea… So it of course downgraded my runtime from 0.4.4 to 0.4.1 .. I definitely prefer 0.4.2 or higher because of the chroma corrections that were implemented .. so I reinstalled 0.4.4 and now VorpX won’t run… I get the same error others have reported “VorpX Config encountered an unspecified error” … I’ve tried reinstalling but then it takes me back to 0.4.1 again..

    It’s rather frustrating .. I’ve only just bought VorpX and I have yet to be able to use it… I’ve seen it said that it should work with 0.4.3 and I would imagine it would work with 0.4.4.. right now VorpX is entirely unusable to me.

    Can we have the choice to install the runtime or not? I imagine most will have already had it installed.. you could check the version and offer to upgrade it, but don’t just DO it ..
