You mean by cranking up the 3D effect to get it that way?
If so, any 3rd person games should do fine that way (as long as they are G3D). Resident evil 2 is a good example.
I play a lot of my games in Z3D, because of performance and shadows. I find that in Z3D, I can crank up the 3D to get it to look closer to G3D, but it doesn’t have that doll house effect.
Its a cool effect on some games for sure.
To play in Z3D:
1. Make a copy of devilmaycry5.exe.
2. Make a copy of the Resident Evil 7 profile.
3. Assign the copy of devilmaycry5.exe to the copy of the Resident Evil 7 profile.
4. Run the copy.
5. Ignore the messed up G3D and go to z-normal/adaptive mode.
6. Enjoy playing the game in Z3D.
7. Pay my consultation fee. Never mind – this was a no-brainer since Devil May Cry 5 uses the RE engine.
You can get a good Z3D by using a copy of the Resident Evil 7 profile. You may need to install a hook helper to get it to hook using that profile.
I didn’t find a good G3D base profile, but I only tried a few that I thought might work.
Hey Guys,
I have been trying to use the VorpX on my quest to play Resident Evil, but i cant make it to work.
Everytime i start it just keeps on a loop of launching vorpx, exiting, launching again, exit. I have tried USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, i have also uninstall it VorpX and install it again, i tried Quest/Rift/Oculus mode and HTC Mode, on Oculus Store and Steam VR, none of them works, what can i do to solve it?
I have tried Admin mode as well but still won’t hook in the game with that neither enter the desktop mode.
Thanks!
Titan Fall 2 works very well. I’m loving it. Also, Resident Evil 7 and Halo: Master Chief Collection (Halo 3 just released for it TODAY!).
No, you can run games at any resolution you want with vorpX.
1440p will typically look quite good, but if performance allows for a game go as high as you can. For an optimal experience you can add resolutions to your PC that it does not support normally, check the ‘Custom Resolutions’ section in the vorpX help for a detailed step-by-step guide. This method works with basically any game.
For Resident Evil 7 specifically it’s even easier than that since the game has a render size multiplier in its options menu. Per default vorpX sets it to 1.3, but you can try someting higher unless that hurts performance too much. Can’t recall currently how the option is called, but should be easy enough to spot in the game’s video/graphics options.
BTW: high resolutions can be further enhanced by applying some mild sharpening in the vorpX menu.
In general: You can run games at any resolution, the higher the resolution, the better the image quality. You can even add resolutions to your PC that it does not support otherwise, which can help to improve things a lot. More detailed information including a step-by-step guide in the ‘Custom Resolutions’ section of the vorpX help.
For Resident Evil 7 it’s even simpler since the game has an option to raise the internal render resolution in its options menu. Can’t remember what it was called, but should be easy enough to spot in the graphics/video options. vorpX automatically sets it to 1.3x the game resolution, but you can go higher if that doesn’t hurt performance too much.
Touch controllers normally aren’t used by vorpX unless you pick them up and press a button. Before the first button press they are ignored by vorpX, so I’m not sure whether I understand your issue correctly. If you want to disable them completely for some reason, removing the batteries is probably your best bet.
Hi i bought a VorpX license last week, i decided to get into it today, i tried Alien Isolation and Resident Evil 7, both seem pretty good in VR (but blurry compared to native vr games) but the problem i’m having is my oculus touch controllers keep alerting me to pick them up when in game, and my xbox controller keeps flicking back and forth to the keyboard.
Basically i just want to control the game with my controller, i found the games unplayable so far because of the constant switching, i looked in the VorpX in-game keybindings and it just shows keyboard bindings so no option to disable anything.
Also is there a way to make Resident Evil 7 run a bit better and less blurry? i’m running it on a 2080ti, ryzen 3800x and 16gb of ddr 4 3200, and when i’m outside it drops to 40 fps, inside it bounces around 60-70 and i’d like to have consistent frames
Edit: i’m using a Oculus Rift S
Hi jjensson!
In third-person games, where the character is far from the camera, the problem I described above is not so noticeable. The Witcher, just such a game. You’re lucky!
However, in third-person games, where the character stands next to the camera, and you focus on objects close to the camera, reducing the stereo effect at a distance of two meters from the camera spoils the entire stereo effect, and makes the Z3D useless.
For example in Resident Evil 2/3
Also in first-person games, where you constantly focus on objects near the camera, limiting the intensity of 3D within two meters of the camera spoils the dive.
As I understand it, this restriction was made so that we would not see ghosting around 3D objects close to the camera. But in my experience, this is not at all scary! We get a full 3D effect, albeit with some ghosting.
Better quality 3D with ghosting around the edges then a flat image near the camera.
Why do I think so?
I ran games through 3D VISION in a similar Z3D artificial 3D mode in VR HMD. This mode is called (Compatibility mode) This mode has a much more unpleasant kind of ghosting than the algorithm created by Ralph. But there is no artificial limitation of the stereo effect near the camera. The 3D effect simply breaks off sharply at the level of the screen frame.
And thanks to this, we have a very good result.
Just one additional option that disables 3D reduction near the camera would make the Z3D more flexible and work fine in most games.
Siiigh. No luck with Resident Evil 3. I’ve been trying out all sorts, but unfortunately after successfully hooking and seeing the game window pop up with the VorpX logo at the bottom, an error message triggers:
“Direct3D 11 fatal error: SwapChain failed. [ OK ]”
Pressing OK closes everything.
Is this something you’ve come across before perchance, Ralf? The usual applies; I have no naughty programs open, SteamVR game options have overlay and desktop theate turned off. Windows Security off. Edit: I see vergilldc is/was having the exact same error message in this thread (the post at the top of this page) back on April the 12th, 2020.
So the hooking seems to be all OK, but I’m guessing there’s some kind of hand-off function to the game’s render calls that’s refusing to play along and dance.
That’s a good post and clarification. Thanks!
I understand completely.
In terms of Resident Evil 3 specifically, is there anything to watch out for or tinker with to get the profile running as you intended? I’m sure the specifics are in the actual profile’s description, so apologies if I’m asking for extraneous or existing information. I’m not on my VR rig to check the in-app vorpX cloud list until later but beyond curious about the game’s general performance and what visual tradeoffs if any might be for me in Z3D/G3D.
I’d be happy to just play the whole game in Z3D in Immersive Screen or Cinema mode, I think. Especially if it means I can keep the main art assets and effects on a high setting and keep reliable performance. Should be fine, right?
As an aside: If I could, I think I would happily play every game in Z3D. I’m genuinely struggling to play games in pancake at the moment. It’s a pretty damn excellent problem to have! VR is just so goddamn good. Even generic 3D depth is delicious. VR has genuinely changed everything for me!
I’ve not had much luck getting basic Z3D running on any games without profiles yet, e.g. Yakuza Kiwami (I copied the Yakuza 0 profile but no success) – but it’s something I’d like to eventually master.
Cheers!
I have much more higher performance in the Resident Evil 2 with more higher settings.
I heard that this problem is not only mine:
Cite: “Strong CPU limitation (3 core bug?) especially when in the street going out of the metro station in the RE3 demo.
Framerate goes from 105fps in 2D to < 25fps in 3D (on an old i5 2500k@4.4ghz) with only 35-40% gpu use (rtx 2600).”
I have much newer CPU, but fps as lowest as him.
Has someone already got performance’s problems in Resident Evil 3? I have 10-17 fps on the streets. Launching RE3 through 3D VISION has the same problems about performance.
My spec: i7-7700K 1080ti
I have to move back the update one week to April, 30. Better safe than sorry.
While creating a profile for Resident Evil 3 a fairly hard to debug issue popped up that has severe potential to break a whole bunch of games if it also affects other titles. Long story short: I decided to investigate this more thoroughly, with only one day left until the planned release that unfortunately will lead to a delay.
My biggest wishes at the moment are:
– Resident Evil 3
– Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture (CryEngine)
– Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
Thank you!
