For 1, it’s definitely the current beta “Enhanced Edition” Beamdog is working on with improved rendering/shaders/etc, I wasn’t able to get Diamond Edition from GOG to hook. Probably for the best, I get way better performance in the EE anyway.

2 from GOG works off a copy of The Witcher profile in quite good Geometry 3D in the game itself if you turn off bloom in the settings. Otherwise you get quite wild visual distortions if you move the camera. Once bloom is turned off, pretty playable except for annoying flickering loading menus and there’s some oddball shadow artifacting.

Would be great if you could spot anything that would help. Great base to start from tho, very encouraging. Thanks!

    Hi,

I tried to search the forum but could not find issue for this.

The Witcher 3 in VorpX I crash for browsing around invetory for more than 1 min. I can see from Process Lasso how Witcher3.exe starts to eat up memory while I stay in inventory (I have 32GB, it crashes around 28GB).
    – If I exit inventory. It will not crash but does not free memory, so if I stayed 30sek it resered 20GB it still keeps this and I can continue to play, if I re-enter inventory is same game instance then it starts to go up 20GB – 25GB etc and will crash. Reload game – reload save game and good to go again…

Easy to replicate. No need to do anything it just eats memory while stayin in inventory.

This problem does not happen if I disable VorpX and play normally. No problem here. This is clearly VorX issue.

My VorpX is in default settings (Configure VoprX -> Full Factory Reset).

Otherwise VorpX work perfectly with Batman, Fallout 4, Skyrim etc. No similar problems. Also other vice Witcher 3 works great, just have to avoid merchants etc.

Sorry if this has already been posted. Please redirect me to right thread if this is the case.

Thank you in advance for your support! And thank you for great product (VorpX)!

    Best reagrards,
    Aki

Well, although the Witcher 3 virtual theater crashes after a few with the Samsung odyssey, I want to send praise out to Ralf for creating this software. I have been playing Portal 2 with the new auto VR setting detection system and other than a little flicker of the larger than usual portal gun, it plays flawlessly and is an awesome experience in full VR with the Xbox controller and some room scale movement.
Thanks for allowing me to play one of the best games ever made in this way!

Thank you for the excellent product, Ralf. When I read about what you were doing, I purchased and instantly checked out The Witcher 3 – it is looking great in vorpX!

I’m not sure if this is known/unknown (and I hope this is the correct thread to mention it, because it looks like 17.3.1 was meant to deal with some ground/clutter 3D rendering issues), but in G3D mode, it appears that some overlapping textures (2D) are being rendered at different depths.

It looks to me like it is affecting two primary scenarios. The first looks like textures that might be added with decals or just wherever multiple textures are blended together (e.g. for adding ivy or grime to walls, breaking up patterns in roads). The other is when a player/NPC/other shadow (I guess real-time shadow) appears on top of the ground/area – there is a similar effect.

It’s possible that height maps or however CD Projekt Red did them are affecting the way it appears when converting to 3D in vorpX, but if it were a simple fix, I thought it was worth mentioning. I tried increasing and reducing both texture and shadow quality in the options, but those changes did not have any effect.

You are doing awesome work. Thanks again!

I have the same problem. After new update 24.12.2017 Witcher 3 freezes every 10-15 minutes in the game menus – dialogs, inventory, bags and boxes with stuff. Just stop working, the picture freezes. Music is continue to play, but no mouse and keyboard repsonse. It only helps completely relaunch the game.
And it freezes randomly – after relaunch I can go to the same menu again and everything will be good. But after some time it freezes again in different menu. There is no papticular logic – sometimes the game crashes when I just put the mouse arrow onto the item in my inventory, sometimes after the click. But the same actions after the restart works fine.
I found one uncommon thing: everytime 1 second before the game goes to crash I see on my Vive”s screen slight wobble, like light “dizzy” effect. Then everything stops.
So looking on all of this, I’m not sure it is gameplay issue – probably something happens on the screen in the game menus which makes Vorpx unstable.

Im playing Witcher 3 almost 1 month and before the last update I never experienced any crash or other problems. How can I get the previous version until the newest will be fixed?
    Thanks

    G3D:

Main pro: more natural 3D (2 ‘cameras’ like native VR apps).
Main con: slow due to having to render everything twice.

    Z3D:

Main pro: fast since the scene is only rendered once.
Main con: 3D effect not as natural.

Personally I think Z3D is OK for Witcher 3, open spaces usually work quite well this way, especially in cinema mode. Some however always prefer G3D regardless of performance. If that isn’t true for you, you can safely stick to Z3D.

I open the Del menu, the mean shake as well. I have tried all modes, all shake.

Nvidia and Oculus rolled out some major improvements with their latest driver updates and Riftcore 2.0 for sure. SLI seemed to finally be working with Witcher 3 and Vorpx when I tested it out last night.

@ finstern: here’s the post that dborosev mentioned.

BTW: vorpX’s D3D11 Geometry 3D rendering path learned a few new tricks in the last four weeks, which finally brings decent Geometry 3D to this young man (and more):

@Ralph,, pls can u hint what graphic effects to use with CV1.

    Watercooled I7 6900k, GTX1080TI watercooled, 6 ssd 500gb

    Skyrim is perfect !
I do have skyrim at a 1920X1440 res. installed. No effects only vsync enabled.
The image is very clear , no coronas flickering or other distorting things just a pain clear image.

I do have GTA5 installed but the image is not comparable to skyrim its so bad.
The resolution is 1920X1440. The image has coronas, flickering no clear image fences look like flickering endless.

same in Witcher 3 (checked all resolution even 4k )slightly more clear as GTA5 but it looks like too crispy with little corona on everything

Fallout4 has a decent image almost comparable to Skyrim.

Which effects to avoid and which to use , i tried all day long and iam fed up now .
The image on screen is ok but in cv1 its all screwed pls give some hints

Since some people seem to have problems to run “The Witcher 3” properly, I want to give my optimal settings for a GTX 1080 (@ 2 GHz), i7-6700K (@ 4,4 GHz) system.

    Public profile
You can find the public profile under the nickname “Amylion”. It’s a virtual 3D cinema for 4:3 aspect ratio (e.g. 1920 x 1440) with black borders (no ambience). The stereoscopic effect is enhanced both in strength and distance weighting. That leads to a strong 3D effect with minimal distortion at the contours; the drawback is a diminished difference in depth effect on close objects. The black borders are important, because the fresnel lenses of current VR devices sadly amplify bright spots in the periphery overproportionally.

    Resolution
    The recommended resolution is 1920 x 1440.
Contrary to some rumours it doesn’t actually translate to supersampling. If you run native SteamVR apps at a Supersampling factor of 1 (that means without real supersampling at the center of the display), the app will render in 1512 x 1680 for each eye!
1920 x 1440 is comparable, because the virtual cinema doesn’t cover the whole field of view. But if you go lower than that, the pixels in the center of the image will get stretched and look bad!

    In-game settings

    Post-processing
    Motion Blur: Off
    Blur: On
    Anti-aliasing: On
    Bloom: On
    Sharpening: Low
    Ambient Occlusion: HBAO+
    Depth of Field: On
    Chromatic Aberration: Off
    Vignetting: On

    Graphics
    VSync: Off
    Maximum FPS: Unlimited
    Resolution: 1920 x 1440
    Display Mode: Fullscreen
    Preserve System Gamma: Off
    NVIDIA Hairworks: On
    NVIDIA Hairworks AA: 0
    NVIDIA Hairworks Preset: Low
    Number of Background Characters: High
    Shadow Quality: High
    Terrain Quality: Ultra
    Water Quality: Ultra
    Grass Density: Medium
    Texture Quality: Ultra
    Foliage Visibility Range: Medium
    Detail Level: Ultra
    Hardware Cursor: On

    Gamma setting
The biggest issue are the gamma settings. It seems to be bugged. Even the highest in-game gamma settings are way too dark. Most details get lost in almost every scene, especially in dark in-door rooms with some light sources like candles.

You have to manually edit the “user.settings” file in the “The Witcher 3” folder in your Windows documents folder.

Set the “GammaValue=1.0” to “GammaValue=2.0”. Start the game normally for a quick test. It should look very bright and washed out (sometimes it fails to load the configuration properly), but in the headset it will look normal (= great).

    Input
In the same folder you can edit “input.settings” file to change the inputs that for some mysterious reason are locked in the in-game UI. For example I put the inventory on my Mouse5 button.

These settings will work flawlessly on a system with a GTX 1080. You probably can even go higher in some areas (shadows or grass / foliage).

    Have fun!

    2. Bioshock 2

I’m puzzled. On my machine (Win10) the DirectVR hack of “Bioshock 2” crashed every 10 minutes, it was unplayable. I had to play it in normal Vorpx mode. I found the gameplay very annoying, repetitive and pointless. It was a struggle to finish the game.

“Bioshock 3” works well in DirectVR, but has some issues with shadows, lighting and in-game videos not showing. You will miss some facets of the story without even noticing.

    My personal list:
Since I’ve never expected a true, native VR experience from VorpX, I mostly enjoyed the 3D cinema mode. I still have to reset my headset way below my normal head position, because Ralf doesn’t seem to be able to deal with or even acknowledge this bug, but whatever: It works. No longer neck stiffness from looking above all the time.

That said I had lots of fun in “Dragon Age 1”, “Dragon Age 2”, “Dragon Age: Inquisition”, “Resident Evil Revelations”, “Gothic 3”, “The Witcher 3”, “Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons”, “Bioshock 1”.
