    Very nice Stryker, i had that one on my list too.

    Cheers RJK_! Quite a list of games you’ve maintained, thanks for curating.

    Another Unreal 3 Engine game to add to the list.

    Styx: Master of Shadows (G3D)

    Disabled a few annoying shader’s that did not render correctly in G3D. Interesting stealth/action/platforming game. Really no need for any FOV adjustments on this one. There is a way to bind multiple FOV settings to keystrokes which can be useful for “on the fly” switching. See this post on how to do this. I am using the 32bit exe on this one. New Profile + Guide for SWAT 4: Gold Edition in G3D + Full VR or Immersive/Cinema Mode (your preference)

    After several hours of tinkering, I finally managed to get this beauty of a tactical game working with VorpX with a G3D profile. To get this working, I’ve included the following mini guide.

    1.) Have a fresh install of the game. I already had the following graphical mod installed and based on what I understand, this should not be a requirement. But if interested, here is the link.

    Graphical Enhancement Mod

    2.) The following mod (Swat 4 Elite) is not a must but very strongly recommended for some useful gameplay and VR reasons

    – FOV Slider
    – Ironsights which can be used in conjuction with the one eye feature in VorpX
    – For disabling Crosshair (useless in VR for this game anyway)
    – Integrate the Stetchkov Syndicate DLC
    – A bunch of other things, you can read up on it

    Downloads

    SWAT 4 Elite Mod – Main Files

    SWAT 4 Elite Mod – Patch Files

    One important thing to note, this mod simply has a folder -> SEF and gets copied into the main SWAT IV directory. Combine the main mod file and patch (overwrite any files over main) before you copy the SEF folder to the main game directory. Nothing should be overwritten in your game install and don’t do this! If you overwrite anything there, you will have to re-install the main game. This is a very simple install and does not overwrite anything from your main install.

    3.) Once the mod is installed, run the game first time without VorpX and make the following game settings.You must launch the game using LaunchSEF.bat which can be found

    Your Game Main Folder\SEF\LaunchSEF.bat

    – Set your resolution (I am using a custom resolution 3200 x 2400 which has turn out to be a nice balance for graphic fidelity, text legibility and performance. See notes later in guide about other custom resolutions. Most defaults are already set for 16:9 or widescreen.
    – Must disable Glow Detail
    – Must disable Bump Map Detail
    – Must Hide Crosshair – Check
    – Max out the FOV Slider included in the mod, avoids having to use DirectVR which works but finnicky and doesn’t always work. Using the FOV slider is a more permanent solution, hence the mod.
    – Hide Weapon is optional but I prefer it. Hiding weapon allows for stronger 3D strength and experimentation.
    – Modify your keyboard commands and rebind any that conflicts with your VorpX hot keys. Mainly middle mouse button for me.

    4.) Download my profile from the cloud and you should then be good to go. You must launch the game using LaunchSEF.bat which can be found

    Your Game Main Folder\SEF\LaunchSEF.bat

    My VorpX settings have been carefully made. Obviouly you can adjust anything within Vorpx as you see fit. The height modifier is set to 0 but I actually set it to 0.4 during gameplay and when I am ready to quit I put it back to 0 for main menu. This can impact the viewport so be mindful of this. You’ll see what I mean.

    About Resolutions: You can edit the SwatGuiState.ini for custom resolutions which can be found at this file path

    Your Game Main Folder\SEF\System\SwatGuiState.ini

    You’ll see a set of resolutions that resemble something like mine listed below. Once you make a list like this to include your own. Only change resolutions outside of VorpX or the game will lock up. But once you got your resolution set, you are good to go.

    ScreenResolutionChoices=800×600
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1024×576
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1024×768
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1152×648
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1152×864
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1280×720
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1280×768
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1280×800
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1280×960
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1280×1024
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1360×768
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1366×768
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1440×900
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1600×900
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1600×1024
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1600×1200
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1680×1050
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1920×1080
    ScreenResolutionChoices=1920×1200
    ScreenResolutionChoices=2560×1440
    ScreenResolutionChoices=3200X1800
    ScreenResolutionChoices=3200X2400
    ScreenResolutionChoices=3360X2520
    ScreenResolutionChoices=3840×2160
    ScreenResolutionChoices=3840×2880
    ScreenResolutionChoices=4320×2340
    ScreenResolutionChoices=4800×2700

    Final notes: This game is complex and believe me, you will need your keyboard! I use a Logitech G13. Between this and my Logitech game mouse re-programmed, I can operate this game without having to look at my keyboard. There a few caveats that do come with this. When using grenades, turn your head since the screen may become blinding but does dissipate after a few seconds. Also, some of the skyboxes are incorrect, no shaders or authoring can be accessed to deal with them. Edgepeek is a requirement for commanding your blue + red teams and other aspects of game elements such as the view ports. Once a command is issued, simpy get out of edgepeek and watch the action. Really cool stuff. I never get bored of setting off a C2 charge! Thankfully any of the caveats that you encounter are not game breaking. In fact, this really a cool way to play this tactical game. If I come across anything else that is useful, I’ll edit this post. Also, suggestions are always welcomed.

    Have fun!

    One more thing for when you check it out next week. There is a problem where you can’t text chat anymore with the T key.

    It’s weird because everything else works all other keys. I tried remapping it but doesn’t help. It’s like the chat box just doesn’t exist anymore. So weird.

    I purchased and installed VorpX today. I have many games in steam which I play using a steam controller which has its keys etc configured per game in steam. I believe that I need the steam overlay active and to launch the games from big picture mode in order for my games to use the controller setup properly. I have tried launching games (e.g. Star Wars Battlefront 2) in this way with VorpX watcher picking up the game launch. When I do this the games wont launch properly. They lauch fine without VorpX, and fine with vorpx but without steam launching from big picture mode. However in doing the latter I cant use my steam controller setup.

    Is there some incompatibility between VorpX and the steam overlay?

    Does any one know how to get my steam controller and its configs working with VorpX?

    thanks in advance

    PS: I’m using dual monitor setup (beamer and monitor), but when selecting a single output only (using WIN+P hotkeys), it still does not work.

    Planet of the Apes (DgVoodoo2) – G3D

    Another DX7 retro game.

    DGVoodoo2 required
    – Game blocks many keys, so some rare shaders dont show up properly, you cant center Headtracking either, place HMD in right position when starting game
    – Profile availiable from the cloud

    Thank you Ralf, meanwhile I solved my issue and I can tell you the Oculus Touch works fine for every games now!
    There was a confusing with the forward key if you use an AZERTY (Z) keyboard rather Querty one (W) AND mostly I hadn’t remapped the keys in the Game itself (only into the worpx menu)!

    Otherwise great work Ralf!

    Thank you for looking into it.

    One question: I paid for VorpX once. So I have one licence. Is that a licence for one PC?
    Can I dual boot Win7 & Win10 with one licence but two keys (not simultaneously obviously) or will the first key automatically stop working as soon as I get a second key? Because I would like to test Windows 10 out but not trash my current system for it. Would just buy a cheap SSD to try it.

    Random inquiry: just read on the internet that every beta partipicant has been given three extra keys to give away. Not really sure if that’s true, but if it is, and someone has one to spare, let me know. Would be a great help to get something official ready as fast as possible after launch.

    Not sure if DirectVR memory scanning will be possible given it’s an online game, but I’d be happy to check that.

    It’s hardwired currently, sorry. I’ll add it to the configurable keys for the next version.

    Most keyboards without this block of keys have a function key that emulates the missing keys via a Fn+Something shortcut. Maybe that would work until then.

    Hi,
    I’d like to use the advanced shader feature, but the keyboard I use doesn’t have an End key. Is there a way to remap the keys(s) to enter advanced mode ?

    Thanks

    Can’t replicate this here. Neither in Portal 2 nor in a brief debug session which did not show anything unusual. Keys are pressed as long as the according Touch button is pressed. Since there also have been no other reports of such an issue since Touch support was added almost two years ago, I have to assume that it’s somehow system specific.

    If you have any additional software running in the background that might send Windows key events (e.g. Pinnacle Profiler, XPadder or similar gamepad tools) or that otherwise seems related to configuring/altering your keyboard please disable them.

    As a potential solution you could try to switch the Touch controllers to gamepad emulation mode in vorpX.

    If anyone else experiences this issue, please let me know.

    In reply to: Pimax 8k, 5k+

    Pimax is finally starting to ship units to backers, and people seem fairly optimistic with what the headsets have achieved. Testers have reported good things regarding its increased FOV, lens clarity, and much reduced SDE. They say it is very comfortable to wear, and that tracking works just as well as Vive.

    The only major concern (aside from demanding performance) seems to be the “softer than expected” image clarity produced by the 8k model, and it’s color contrast levels. But these are things that afflict my 4k model, which vorpX can mitigate quite well – with it’s image sharpening/saturation tool. Works great in my vorpX games, I only wish it could carry over to my native VR games somehow.

    So this has had me wondering…

    @Ralf: Would it be possible to hook basic tool elements of vorpX into native VR apps? Or to the headset itself?

    Like provide a simplified “VR app” profile to use, with only basic functionality to enhance sharpness/saturation/brightness.

    Or create a standalone software aside from vorpX for native apps, or a headset driver that runs along side them (that doesn’t need to tap directly into the games pipeline).

    Something like this could be very beneficial to headset users, especially those with the coming Pimax units.

    If you wanted to take it a step further, you could also include things like the controller button remapping and keyboard hotkeys for recenter etc. Things which most VR apps should but don’t include.

    Anyway, I’m excited to get my 8k in the coming months. I anticipate using it a mostly for vorpX games, though I’m hoping for an improved native VR experience as well. Should be neat.

    Mine is working still (for the base game map), though I do not have any of the DLC. It hooks with Z3D.

    I’ve only had to mess with EAC twice, last time was months ago it seems, so latest patch and update didn’t seem to break anything here.

    Maybe try the tricks of setting a new resolution, setting to fullscreen/windowed, alt tab minimizing etc to see if it restores Z3D. My AA level is on TAA, sometimes AA settings matter. And check you didn’t accidentally disable 3D with vorpX hotkeys, or in the menu. You could try redownloading the profile and see if that helps.

    Star Wars: Republic Commando (DGVoodoo2) – G3D

    Very promising Star Wars Shooter (DX8 Unreal 2/2.5 Engine). Again thanks so much to Ralf, with the experimental DGVoodoo2 implementaion he has done more for us then he probably can imagine.

    DGVoodoo2 required
    – Change FOV and Resolution like described HERE
    – Very nice image in higher resolutions
    – Optimized for FUll VR with Headtracking
    – Profile availiabe from the cloud

    Note: There is some trouble with the mousepointer and certain keystrokes as well you might make the game “stop” with certain keys. If mouse pointer disappears or yor cant move any futher, press ESC or re-configure game or VorpX keys so they dont interfere.
