I’ll revisit the game before the next update and will fix or disable shadows if possible. At least the latter is possible in most, but not all, cases.

Good idea, should be relatively easy to make the menu scale dependent on the set ImageZoom to a certain degre.

The other option would be to reset the Zoom to default while the vorpX menu is open. One of these will be in the next update.

Probably opt for the former, since right now the image shrinks in realtime as I adjust the zoom smaller.

I have to say right now I think vorpx is the killer app for DK2. With games like COD:MW3 BioshockInf and Skyrim (which I don’t own yet and haven’t tried) it makes the sparsely available tech demos look lame with the possible exception of Elite Dangerous. Hopefully you will get a good list of games working with Geometry 3D. I tried Sega and Sonic all star racing with nvidia 3D vision using the red/cyan glasses and it was a real treat but too much ghosting/crosstalk/coloration issues. Just what is involved in custom “vorpxing” a game like that? Takes a lot of time, in same cases is it even not possible, or is at always possible on a custom support level?

I have heard from some people that Kerbal is working with the latest update. I am not having any luck though, VORXP is not recognizing it the program.

    Hi Ralf,

First of all, let me just say you’ve done a great job getting DK2 compatibility up and running! My question is about performance – I had everything working smoothly on my DK1 but the same games are ‘stuttery’ on the DK2. Should the updated vorpX hit framerates harder than before, or would this be a problem outside of the software? Just trying to isolate the cause.

    Thanks!

Ace Combat seems like a great game for the Rift, and VorpX seems to do quite well with the visuals, but I’m trying to find a way to make the headtracking work.
ACAH has pretty good support for gamepads, and I have no problem making the analog view panning work with a gamepad as normal, so I got excited when I found the ‘Headtracking as Gamepad’ option inside VorpX. However, I can’t seem to actually make it do anything. I don’t know if this is a problem with the specific game or if I’m doing something wrong, or what. It could be that the game simply doesn’t recognize the gamepad emulation, but I wanted to know if anyone else with more experience has tried this or is interested, because ACAH would be a wicked game for the rift, even with no 3D.
I enable ‘headtracking as gamepad’, but no amount of screwing around with the axes or device number or whatnot will get any response.
When I enable this option, is VorpX creating a virtual joystick? If so, how do I get a game to see it?
Is it hijacking the input from an existing joystick? I’d like to find out more, because I imagine many games get their headtracking from this method.
Any responses are appreciated, and I’ll update if I learn anything.
Thanks to Ralf for this sweet driver, I’m having great fun with it despite these issues ^_^

Thank you for replying Ralf :)

I’ve checked, and doublechecked, the game config menu is set to 1920X1080,
    And the falloutprefs.ini file under
    [Display]

    Is set to:
    iSize W=1920
    iSize H=1080

It didn’t help when I ran the game windowed.
When I set the rift config to direct mode, I get a small window in the upper left corner where the game starts up, reacting to rift movement, but nothing is shown on the rift.

    I’m running Win7 64, on a i5 4690k @4.5ghz, and a 3gb GTX780oc card.
Are there other things I need to make sure is updated? the Vorpx drivers are the most recent, so are the display drivers. The dk2 has the newest firmware.

Works here when selecting the secondary display adapter in the Underworld setup program.

Default 3D is a bit weak, you might want to raise “3D Strength” close to the max. Will fix the default for the next update. There’s also a GUI-issue, which might not be fixable. Still playable.

Also make sure to set the “3D-FOV Enhancement” to the max, and maybe zoom the image out a bit, FOV still isn’t perfect, even with 3D-FOV Enhancement set to max.

There is a way to configure vorpX as gamepad substitute (see below), which can be used to get head tracking in Dirt 3. This is better than nothing, but (very) far from perfect.

The better option is to use an external tool like OpenTrack, which can emulate TrackIR input, instead of vorpX’s head tracking. We can’t do this in vorpX directly due to legal reasons unfortunately. I’m not sure whether OpenTrack is updated to the DK2 yet though.

The next vorpX version *may* have an internal cure for the issue, but it’s not entirely clear yet whether that really will work out.

    Here’s the gamepad method:

    1. Press [DEL] to open the in-game menu
    2. Go to Input page
    3. Set ‘Handle Gamepads Internally’ to Off
    4. Set ‘Headtracking as Gamepad’ to Relative or Absolute depending on the game. You should get a grasp of what is better quickly.

The options below this should be more or less self explanatory except maybe Deadzone Correction, which efectively eliminates analog stick deadzones set by the game.

If this is done, your headtracker is now a gamepad axis. The final step is to go to the game’s input options and map look left/right/up/down to the ‘Rift-Gamepad-Axis’, exactly as you would do with any other gamepad axis.

Does Arma 3 work with new DK2 update? If so, how do you get it working?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the kind words.

Relative to the number of new licenses after releasing the update the number of serious complaints is well below what one would expect. Some issues here and there with this or that game are just normal, especially since the basic Rift-setup is a little bit more complicated with the DK2.

A little bit of praise from time to time is still highly welcome, of course. So thanks again for that. :)

I updated vorpX yesterday and encountered the same error. Here is how I worked around it. (I have a DK1)

    1) Updated to OVR 0.4.1
This resulted in vorpX to simply crash rather than give the error message.
    2) Set vorpCongig.exe and vorpControl.exe to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista
    3) Ran my game in compatibility mode for Windows Vista
