Works fine here with the Steam-, GOG- and an old DX9-modded CD-version.

But I’m not sure what “press any key” prompt you mean, unless you mean the Oculus health and safety warning. Didn’t encounter such a prompt when starting a new game or loading a savegame except for the Oculus warning screen right after start.

Are you using maybe yet another version? If not: could you describe the exact steps how to get this prompt?

When you close vorpX via the tray icon, it is completely disabled. It doesn’t do anything when it is not running.

If you want to play games without vorpX, shutting vorpX down is the right thing to do. While vorpX is running, it always tries to hook into games.

You should have received you key in the meantime. If it didn’t reach you, please report back here.

vorpX hooks automatically into VLC and MPC-HC, and also tries to hook into any other player that is based on Direct3D or OpenGL.

If you do not want it to do that, you can either exit vorpX before watching a video or select “Pause Watcher” in the tray icon’s right click menu, which will also prevent vorpX from hooking into any other program.

in reply to: Possible to use VorpX with older Oculus runtime? #95873

No sorry. You need the runtime 0.7 or above. 0.6 *may* also work, but wasn’t tested. vorpX from the time before 0.6 misses so many features of the current build that this alone is worth the runtime update. Let alone all the other things not working with older runtimes.

You received an answer on November, 28 and even answered back, so it’s safe to say that the answer reached you. Since you also received an activation key earlier, it’s also safe to assume that the installer worked before.

That said, unfortunately there is no other answer than the one you received already. Sorry. There has to be something blocking the download. Most likely that would be a firewall or any kind of security software, but it may also be your router.

Since you were able to install vorpX the first time you tried mid November, it may be worth a try to restore a Windows system restore point from that time to revert any changes done in the meantime.

@ fernas : If something like that happens to many different games in a similar way, it’s quite likely that another program is interfering with vorpX. Many programs also try to hook into games and can create such an conflict, not all of them are obvious. This may be a virus scanner, a graphics driver add-on, a chat program that can display notifications in games etc. If you didn’t do so already, please check the trouble shooting guide in the help for hints in regard to possibly conflicting programs. Please also try to reinstall vorpX to minimize the chance that the issue is caused by a corrupt file.

Unfortunately the mail address you used to register here isn’t in our customer database, so I can’t really check what is going on.

If this hasn’t been resolved already, please make sure that your mail contains the request code that is displayed in the license dialog and also send the mail from the same mail address that you used for purchasing vorpX to avoid delays.

If both conditions are met, and you still did not receive your key, please report back here and/or contact us with a second mail address in case there is an issue with receiving mails from your normal address.

Gone Home: hooks correctly here (Win 10, Steam version), but then freezes when going into the actual game from the main menu. Might be related to Win 10, which seems to require to run the game windowed to work at all here with or without vorpX. Will be looked into.

Metro 2033 Redux: works fine here (also Steam version). May have to be run in safe mode on some machines if I remember earlier reports correctly. If you also have the Non-Redux version of the game, using that is generally perferable BTW as it offers Geometry 3D when run in DX9 mode.

HL2: When support for HL2 was done, there was no VR mode. Besides that it still makes a lot of sense for stand alone mods like Black Mesa. Personally I like the way vorpX does it better BTW, but that’s almost certainly a minority vote.

In general: if you have problems with multiple games not hooking at all, please check the trouble shooting guide in the help. The most likely cause of this is some other program on your machine that creates a conflict with vorpX.

You can also try to create a special vorpX desktop shortcut to a game’s main .exe (right click the tray icon, choose “Create Destop Shortcut”), which sometimes works more reliable than the normal hooking. Doesn’t help with most Steam games unfortunately, but would be an option for the Metro 2033 GOG version for example.

Just in case: please make sure that you have the latest vorpX (0.9.1) and the Oculus runtime 0.7/0.8 installed. The error you see is typically shown when you either try to use an older vorpX version with the latest runtime or vice versa.

Just a little heads up that you can add programs to the exclude list in the vorpX config app. vorpX will not try to hook into programs on that list.

DK1 works again with vorpX 0.9 for weeks. You can simply use your web installer to install the latest version which includes the DK1 hotfix.

With the consumer Rift being only a few months away there will be no further DK1 specific work from now on though. If it breaks again in the future, it will stay unfixed.

VorpX adds head tracking, stereo 3d, the ability to adjust the FOV to something VR compatible and a lot more to supported games. There is no real comparison between a fully supported game and streaming a game to the desktop viewer. Try something like Skyrim, which can be easily tweaked to provide an almost native experience, and you won’t ask yourself anymore what’s the difference.

We will investigate this and check whether the issue can be replicated here.
