    Unfortunately the game’s antialiasing is quite blurry, hence you need a high resolution to make it look totally crisp. A 4:3 res that fits the bill would be 2560×1920. You can pretty much forget about that without a high-end PC though. If you’re lucky, everything set to minimum in the game’s graphics options might work for your GTX1080 at that resolution. *might*

    Decent performance is even more important with Alternate Frame 3D than it is normally since each eye only gets updated every other frame. You can’t have it both ways with your machine. It’s either perfect graphics or acceptable performance. Not both at the same time for a game as demanding as RDR2.

    Also just some feedback on the resolutions:

    “Res: 3:4 is a bit too narrow. I would suggest a 4:3 res instead”

    I was initially running at 1920×1440 which is 4:3, and it was very blurry.
    Thats why I changed it to 1440×1920 and the blurriness went away.

    Ok, so changing the res to 1440×1920 completely cleared up the blurriness. (Again, did I miss a blurb somewhere explaining how this should be set up?)
    But I did notice 2 other things.
    1) I can see the edges of the screen in this new vertical resolution. Not that big of a deal and still very playable. Am I res’ing wrong?
    2) Running it with VorpX this way seems to have killed off the ability to move side to side. Which is pretty critical for moving in cover. (just testing with the KB&M) Any way around this? I plan to use the oculus controls if possible, will that fix it?

    Great work Ralf, can’t wait to play it.

    Just tried RDR myself. Looks super promising! But did I miss some setup details somewhere? I reset the profile to default.
    I used directVR and fullVR. It looks great standing still, but I noticed quite a lot of visual epilepsy when playing at 1920×1440 on med-high settings.
    I dropped the rez and settings down, and its definitely better. But its a bit blurry – regardless of rez or settings.
    Is there anything else I need to set for it to work properly? Anything in the game settings? Might just be my 1080ti lack of power, but I don’t think so.
    I’ll play with it a bit more and see if I can figure it out.

    vorpX 21.2.1 has been released.

    Originally this was supposed to be just a maintenance update, but in the end became an almost-major-release due to two huge additions in the form of vorpX connection mods for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 that provide a great out-of-the box FullVR experience for both games. Both are still somewhat beta, but good enough for a first public release.

    The connection mods implement perfect 1:1 headtracking, decoupled walk/look/aim, auto switching to EdgePeek in cutscenes and menu screens for improved comfort, and unique VR optimized cameras for both games that get rid of nauseating head bobbing and whenever possible the equally nauseating moments where the games briefly take away control, e.g. when entering a car or mounting a horse.

    They also add Alternate Frame Geometry 3D for both games. If you are sensitive to the comfort issues inherent to AFR 3D, vorpX’s built in 3D methods are still available without losing the other benefits of the more direct connection like positional tracking and decoupled walk/look.

    Nice detail: For the heck of it GTA V got an additional driving view that mounts the camera on a car’s hood, similar to what you may know from many racing games. Turned out to be the most fun and immersive way to cruise through Los Santos you may have ever experienced.

    Full changelog:

    • Dedicated connection mods (BETA) for Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V to provide a great out-of-the-box FullVR experince: VR optimized cameras, decoupled walk/look, auto EdgePeek handling, alternate frame G3D, and more.
    • The shader authoring tool can be used on top of official profiles now.
    • Profiles can now be restored to default from within the game, having to switch to the config app for that was always a bit clunky.
    • Internal frame interpolation can handle alternate eye rendering without relying on support provided by headset runtimes.
    • Fallback hooking mode that improves compatibility with some mod loaders (e.g. Resident Evil 2)
    • ‘Loft’ cinema environment (finally) finalized.
    • Some textures were blurry in cinema scenes since earlier this year.
    • OpenXR now working for games that utilize nVidia Ansel, e.g. SW: Battlefront 2.
    • DirectVR memory scanner caching didn’t always work as intended.
    • D3D9: Fixed a regression that could cause heavy flicker in older fixed function pipeline games (e.g. GTA: Vice City with the D3D8>D3D9 wrapper)
    • Head roll wasn’t always applied as intended (e.g. Resident Evil 7)
    • Some Epic Launcher and EA Desktop related improvements
    • Elder Scrolls Online: HUD shader fixed for latest game release.
    • Fallout 4: Lightning shader fixed (thanks RJK)
    • Skyrim SE: Some effect fixes (thanks RJK)
    • Mass Effect: Legendary Edition: ME1/2: G3D/Z3D profiles added, note that G3D performance isn’t exactly great due to a somewhat ineffecient D3D9 to D3D11 conversion. Especially for ME2, which doesn’t look that much better, the DX9 original is still recommended.
    • MPC-HC/VLC: some default settings tweaks,

    I read everything very carefully, but it seemed like I was the only one doing it. I have a 3090, I wrote about it in the beginning :)

    And I’m asking about resolutions three posts in a row. Vorpx puts it at 1600×1200 – which is not enough for normal quality. Above 2560×1440 – the game does not allow to put, which forces to make a custom resolution in 2560×1920. And again, not the fact that it will be better. Probably there is a formula, according to which zoom will not blur the picture so much.

    The source of blur is the zoom parameter in vorpx. If it is below 0.6 the picture is clear. That is why I am asking about the dependence of picture sharpness on vorpx parameters. It may be obvious to you, but not to me. I am not a developer after all! And there’s not a word about it in the Help, and the profiles work according to some magic formula known to only you. Just default and everything works – not in this case.

    P.S. No words about OpenXR. And who reads worse ? :) BTW – in Alyx I did some screenshots and they are of 1440×1440… But I remember, FOV was far wider. Strange.

    Can’t really say anything in regard to the first person mod, but the game works beautifully in immersive screen mode, which should be the default.

    As far as “blurry 3D” is concerned: for a crisper image run games at higher resolutions. The higher the resolution, the better the image quality. Typically 1440p starts to look quite good. Be aware that higher resolutions have an impact on performance, so key here is finding the right balance between image quality and frames per second.

    Also please check the ‘Custom Resolutions’ guide either in the vorpX help or here in the forum. It explains step-by-step how to add resolutions to your PC that it can not display normally.

    got it working after removing all game overlays. now if i can only figure out how to solve the overkill head tracking, the bad juttering using first person mod and blurry 3D. i wish people would make detailed tutorials on how to get the settings for these games just right. i See these videos on youtube and it seems to just work straight out the box for them, no problems at all. But thats rarely been the case for me

    yes, me too with the same exact profile aha, thanks for sharing tho !

    i have even added this to the engine.ini file

    [SystemSettings]
    r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=2
    r.ScreenPercentage=120
    r.PostProcessAAQuality=6
    r.TemporalAACurrentFrameWeight=0.2
    r.TemporalAASamples=2
    r.BlurGBuffer=-1
    r.AmbientOcclusionLevels=3
    r.AmbientOcclusionRadiusScale=1
    r.RenderTargetPoolMin=400
    r.LensFlareQuality=2
    r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
    r.EyeAdaptationQuality=2
    r.BloomQuality=5
    r.FastBlurThreshold=7
    r.Upscale.Quality=3
    r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=1
    r.Streaming.PoolSize=4096
    r.StaticMeshLODDistanceScale=0.25
    r.SkeletalMeshLODBias=-2
    r.RefractionQuality=2
    r.SSR.Quality=4
    r.SceneColorFormat=4
    r.DetailMode=2
    r.TranslucencyVolumeBlur=1
    r.MaterialQualityLevel=1
    r.SceneColorFringe.Max=0
    r.ShadowQuality=5
    r.Shadow.CSM.MaxCascades=16
    r.Shadow.MaxResolution=4096
    r.ViewDistanceScale=10
    foliage.DensityScale=10
    grass.DensityScale=10
    foliage.LODDistanceScale=20
    r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0

    but it’s very taxing, it’s not smooth on my rtx 3090.
    you can tweak those settings to get better fps and if you dont want dynamic shadows just set r.shadowquality to 0 you will still have static shadows and better fps with no glitch.

    i had to tweak the profile btw to get rid of some decal glitch, did you do that as well ?

    This is now in my TOP VorpX experiences!

    – VorpX Settings: Z3D, Immersive Screen.
    – In Game Settings based on RTX 2070 Super:
    High settings, Window Mode, FOV 100, turn Motion Blur off.

    *This profile does support DirectVR Scan and Geometry 3D, but the game is badly optimised and looked terrible on my 2070, also textures were messed up.
    (Feel free to try and tweak it to work better)

    *It LOOKED and WORKED fantastic for me in Z3D with Max 3D strength (3.0)
    ALSO the 3D still looks really good in Z3D.

    Thanks, I used the custom launcher mod in the end as the game launcher is pointless so now I can just jump into all 3 games from the desk top. https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectlegendaryedition/mods/46

    All these settings work great, thanks so much, no crashes so far

    Cinema mode
    Head-tracking MP 0.00
    HT Sensitivity 0.00
    Geometry 2.00
    Fluidsync on
    Frameslimit 40-45fps – I used (Oculus Tray tool) for this

    In the Mass Effect in-game options change this settings.

    4:3 Resolution
    Borderless
    Dynamic Shadows off
    Blur off
    Grain off
    AA off
    Ambient Occlusion off

    I also played with the FOV setting with the Bioshock Infinite profile and zoomed the screen all the way in. It looks great with hardly any borders.

    It’s a great day to be able to play Mass Effect trilogy in VR, lets hope one day someone like Luke Ross works on a VR mod.

    In the vorpx-config app you can exclude the launcher by picking the *.exe. of it. After that in the local profiles in the config app create a new profile based on the Bioshock Infinite profile with the assigned MassEffect1.exe of the Legendary Edition in the vorpx config app.

    After the game was hooked by vorpx and you can see the game in your headset, just press the “Del Button” on your Keyboard and change the settings. You can also play around with the settings, you can reset it in the vorpx config app if needed.

    The desktop viewer should also work fine for Photoshop, at least as far as I can tell. Incidentally I did some fairly intense Photoshop testing when I implemented the hardware cursor capturing recently. Didn’t encounter anything unusual with it other than that brushes are technically Windows cursors, making it create large amounts of insanely huge cursors (which is why it needed special attention).

    Caveat: I only checked an older version, stopped upgrading when Adobe went rental only a few years ago. So, I’m not 100% sure whether maybe something has changed since then that would affect vorpX.

    Totally unrelated sidenote:

    While I have to admit that currently I still do most of image editing with PS – old habits die hard – I bought an Affinity Photo license a while ago out of curiosity. Can fullheartedly recommend that to anyone in search of a no-nonsense image editor and painting application. Although dirt cheap (they probably make more money with an asset store than with the software itself) in a fairly fundamental way it’s even better than Photoshop due to its largely non-destructive effects approach that e.g. let’s you draw below a blur effect with your changes getting affected by the blur above in real-time. Similar to how video compositing applications work in that respect and way more intuitive than using Photoshop’s ‘smart’ objects for similar purposes.

    I’m slowly migrating over from PS, so when in a few years my trusty Creative Suite finally gets too old, that’s where I will end up image editor wise.

    The profile of the old Mass Effect does not work with the Legendary Edition. You have to create a new profile based on the Bioshock Infinite profile with the assigned MassEffect1.exe of the Legendary Edition in the vorpx config app.
