Although you guys suggest vorpX is a seated experience; I have a little suggestion that might make Alien Isolation ( and all games where ege peek is regularly needed) a better experience, and allow vorpX to be used as a standing experience in First Person View games, using your body’s orientation to look, and one joystick to move.

So here is how I tried to experience Alien Isolation.

    – Hardware : VIVE + old Xbox controller (via xbcd)

    – I have no native xbox controller support so I use joy2key to map the keyboard controls to my controller.

    – Since AI is a stealth game more than a running game where necessary strafe could possibly cause sickness, I can play in the standing position and turn my body left and right depending on where I want to look and walk to. Besides it gives a much more natural feeling to the game versus sitting on a chair.
    – Then I use the left thumbstick to walk in the direction I am facing.
    – So far so good, the motion is natural and everything, but…

As you are well aware, the Motion Tracker is an essential kit which is not in view of the player and Edge Peek must be used. The disadvantage of Edge Peek is that it resets the camera position relative to the center of your screen, not to the center of where you were looking at.

It’s a bit hard to explain but here goes:

    – At the start of the game I am facing North
    – There is a corridor to the East and one to the West.
    – I want to see if there is an alien in either corridor.
    – Facing the east corridor (by turning my body in that direction) I trigger edge peek mode which faces me back automatically to North instead of keeping focus on the East.
    – Can we have a setting so we can switch this behavior off ?

When using a program like xpadder or Joy2Key one can bind all these keys on the keyboard to one controller button.

So I tried to map 4 funtions to following 4 buttons to one controller button

    – Motion tracker on
    – Edge Peek mode on
    – center positional headtracking (makes the edge peek cinema screen follow your orientation)
    – center headtracking (gamepad) – on/off does not seem to solve the problem.

I have also set xbox controller override to partial (x-axis only)

Am I missing something here ? please advise.

    Thank you

For the slow walk try to hit caps-lock. Sometimes Vorpx reverses the controller, so a fix is to select reverse run-walk in controller settings of the ingame Vorpx-menu. For the console try to hit every single button of you keyboard or do a google search in french for the console in oblivion. This is probably not the right forum to answer such a question.

I installed the update an unfortunately when I try to either apply settings, apply and close or even manually run vorpxcontrol now it crashes :(

Giving me a pop-up box with this:
“The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000018)”

Hi I’m trying to get fallout 4 setup with vorpx and have fun into a couple issues.
I’m using an oculus rift and the steam controller.

1- unless I increase the zoom greatly I’m seeing dead space on the top and bottom of my field of view. Right now I’m using letter head 1 with the zoom almost maxed. It removes the grey dead areas on the top and bottom however now I’m missing a lot of screen space on the sides.

The other issue I’m having is using terminals.
Whether looking right at what I want to select or using the controller to highlight something I’m finding it almost impossible to actually click on anything in the terminals. Anyone else having an issue similar to this?

vorpX tries to hook into every DirectX/OpenGL game, so it will also hook into VR games. Before starting a VR game, you need to pause the watcher from the tray icon’s right click menu or exit vorpX.

I’m not quite sure weheter there are too many users with your fullscreen Steam as shell setup, but I may consider a reversed include/exclude option for a later version.

You can get to your goal yourself right away by starting the games you want to use with vorpX via simple batch files:

    start [path_to_vorpX]\vorpControl.exe
    timeout /T 10
    cd /d [path_to_game]
    game.exe
    timeout /T 10
    taskkill /f /im vorpControl.exe

The second timeout may look unnecessary but will allow vorpX to clean up after a game has exited. Do not remove it! May also help with games that force the use of a launcher.

Hi Ralf, i have a fair suggestion for Vorpx future versions: could you bind the following functions to a combination of controller’s buttons?

For example, assuming everyone is using something similar to DS or Xbox360 controller:

    Vorpx MenĂº: press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 and Button 1
    Edge Peek: press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 and Button 2
    Head tracking and Positional tracking reset: press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 and Button 3
    Something else: press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 and Button 4

This would help big time so we don’t have to reach for mouse and keyboard, which may break the immersion.

What do you think, is this doable? thanks.

Hi there, i am playing using 1920×1440 on Vive. When i set the 1:1 resolution and zero zoom i will lose vertical FOV as black (or “ambience”) bands will appear on the upper and lower portion of the screen. If i zoom in (lets say a level of zoom between 60 and 65) i will not see the bands, but i will be losing the left and right sides of the rendered image.

I wonder if there’s a better resolution option again or what’s your recomendations in terms of zoom and FOV when i want to get full picture according to what’s written above.

I have to send Vive controllers to assistance and that’s will be my chance to really focus on those classics i have been missing. Vorpx will rock my world, how amazing is to play through those masterpieces for the fist time in their best virtual shape.

Ok,Skyrim has just been perfect after the above tips, now SkyUi interface,is perfectly readable in the resolutions indicated by alegse.
Additionally,I can control upscaling suggested by ralf in any resolutions.
    I can only applaud this.

There is another specific case, which I would like to solve, with Elder Scrolls Oblivion, now that Cv1 has more square screens.

In a fresh installation of Oblivion, during my first test with 1395×1240 resolution,Oblivion reescaled interface visible in window mode, but it was not usable for mouse.

Is there any solution for Oblivion resolution with readable interface? Any suggested resolutions or other specific changes?

    update. Witcher 3 is running.
    How :
    1. Start vorpx
    2. stop watcher
3.start the game ( nexus modmanger is working)
    4. after a second or two you need to resume the watcher ( vorpx control menue)
    5. The game hooks
6 if the message takes too long to load appears , just click the witcher 3 symbol on your tasklist at the bottom of your computer
    .
    Thats all.
But now i do have a different problem. by disabling the cinema mode the picture in the rift ist turned upside down.. whats that ?

The next vorpX version will allow native controller use for more games that do not allow simultaneous mouse/gamepad use if they work with the new Direct VR feature. Skyrim is one of those, not sure yet about the other ones.

You can also easily address this yourself right away though. That’s why vorpX has a built in gamepad emulation.

The “normal” ways of dealing with games that do not allow and controller and mouse together are either playing with mouse and keyboard or disabling the controller ingame and using the above mentioned gamepad emulation. It maps gamepad input to mouse/keyboard similar to tools like Xpadder and let’s you use your gamepad in every game that does not allow simultaneous gamepad/mouse use.

Hi Ralph, i wonder if the next version will address the headtracking issue with some games.

    – Skyrim: aware of the mouse OR controller issue, i was trying to use the built in controller configuration feature to emulate keyboard with no success. I was wondering if the VORPX custom controller configuration will further improve or if you could build a specific controller profile for Skyrim as this is one of the most requested games.

    – Deus Ex Human Revolution: headtracking issue that lets you look around OR move, never at the same time.

    – Alien Isolation: headtracking deactivates after moving with the controller, reactivates after using Vorpx menu again

I’ve had a problem where the sticks on my controller seem to be mapped to buttons on top of the movement. So I’ll switch to third person or begin springing (Project Nevada), when I move around. It also seems to change behavior everytime I load the game. Could be the same issue, where it’s hitting alt tab instead.

A batch with the below command should do the trick. Please note that doing this is not a good way to exit the program. It’s basically a crash and skips some clean-up actions. The next vorpX version will allow a cleaner taskkill exit without the /f (forced) parameter, that probably doesn’t work with the current release though.

    taskkill /f /im vorpcontrol.exe

    Hi Everyone,

I know head tracking with PSVR isn’t working on PC yet, but does it visually work?

I just wanna strap my headset on and play some games just for the visuals, Ill use my mouse or controller to move around.

Thanks everyone, excited to join the community!

Just a litle bit of rumor control: there will be Z3D positional tracking, but only for *some* games (emphasis on *some*). A few popular ones are among those, but don’t expect it for more than a dozen titles or so.
