Just in case you aren’t aware, there’s a good VR mod for HL1 with full VR and motion controllers, available on Steam. I’m playing through it now, and I realized that I never played HL1, I started back in the day with HL2. A lot of things make more sense now, go figure.

I love vorpX but I think a dedicated mod is even better. Anyway, I realize that none of this answers your ray-traced question. :)

If you are patient, there are some upcoming VR headsets that I am planning to upgrade to coming from a Valve Index.

You have the Pimax Crystal or Pimax 12K that comes out later this year.

I am looking forward to a very light headset, especially to use for VR gamepad experiences like vorpX, called Bigscreen Beyond.

There is also the upcoming Meta Quest 3, if you are into mobile VR gaming plus being able to tether to a PC so you can use vorpX.

If you cannot wait a few months, then I would recommend buying the Valve Index + Knuckles Controllers. I am, very pleased with it and for you to come from the HTC Vive would be a big upgrade, but since you already have the basestations, I would recommend you to consider upgrading to the Bigscreen Beyond headset.

    Evening All,

Recently took the leap into VR and bought myself the first HTC Vive and thinking about now upgrading to the vive pro 2 as on my understanding i can use that headset with the base stations and controllers i already have but before i do that I’m wondering what the majority are using her and there results and any feedback they can offer.

    Cheers

@Ralf. Thanks for your feedback. I work in K-8 EDU and admit that often leads to “thinking things through” out loud (here) instead of privately. I will try to avoid doing this so much in the future.

To be clear, even if I don’t go through my entire testing process I DO rigorously test with controlled benchmarks (in-game when possible). I *always* start at the basics when encountering a problem; Has something changed in my BIOS, have I installed anything new (even just a driver update), is my cooling still working properly? I use benchmark software (historically Cinebench and Furmark, but currently I usually just run 3D Mark to do the “extreme” GPU + CPU stress test) to double-check that performance has not degraded for some unknown reason or an instability crept in. I don’t believe anything I see just once.

I, do, however, keep coming back to Cyberpunk after long lapses in playing it, and I forget about all the Cyberpunk-specific foibles. Or maybe I’m just overly-optimistic that somehow they have finally been fixed. (hahahahaha, right…)

I have tested this particular behavior (GPU usage with the vorpX virtual monitor enabled) and although I noticed that in Cyberpunk I belatedly realized it’s a terrible title in which to do any testing. In Cyberpunk my performance will alter dramatically simply by switching from real screen to virtual, or back, or back and forth. Using the built-in benchmark I repeatably see my max fps drop by 10-20fps. Sometimes my minimum and average also simultaneously go up. I have to Quit and re-run the game and all is good again. It’s just a completely and utterly unreliable title to try and use to figure out anything (other than figuring out “this is a Cyberpunk problem”). Like many (everyone?) even in 100% vanilla Cyberpunk I see repeatable, slowly decreasing performance just from entering and exiting menus, or even when visiting certain locations which will then cause performance to drop everywhere until you reload or quit and reload. It’s just the worst.

BUT, I do also see performance differences in the only other title I currently have installed that has a built-in benchmark: Far Cry Primal. That title consistently and repeatably benchmarks FASTER on the vorpX virtual display than it does when on my physical monitor. Every time. Identical settings. Absolutely repeatable. As you’ve said, this does not seem to be vorpX related in any way. vorpX was just the first thing that came to mind because it’s been so long since I’ve run multiple screens on any game rig. I *think* what I’m seeing is typical of 3D acceleration on Windows machines with 2 or more monitors, especially if those aren’t running the same refresh. It’s been probably 12 years since I used multiple displays on a gaming rig, but it definitely used to cause a bit of unanticipated behavior.

(BTW; if you ever do implement a longer edit window I’m one of those forum users who will go back and edit my original posts with more concise info. For example, I would have edited the post where I initially noticed the differing performance with something like “EDIT: For anyone else seeing differing performance on the virtual monitor I have now tested further and this does not appear to be vorpX related but rather a game-specific issue with Cyberpunk, which was the title in use when I first noticed this behavior.”

Looking forward to the next Beta!

Edit: after fiddling with it, I got it working. I had to reinstall and change back to gamepad control. But now, the game crashes, I think it’s the video settings…FYI I’m running a 3060 and a Ryzen 7, 16 gb RAM. The Gamepad setting is the best option I found. To make sure you’re using it correctly, look at the hands, the buttons are all mapped out.

I found profiles again with the new beta. Awesome times again with Bioshock 1&2. They seem to play very well with DirectVR scan, I love that tech!

I am having trouble with Duke Nukem Forever though, I can’t seem to move either with keyboard, touch controls, or even keyboard. Any ideas on that one? Thanks

Hello friend, I was having the same issue until I accessed the vorpx menu using “Del”(delete key) in game. I then went to the controller settings and changed it from game pad to keyboard and mouse and that seemed to work. Hope this helps 🥰

I dont really understand, why PSVR 2 is so much hyped, because there is so much lesser Content than PCVR, no 3D BluRay Support, you can only play games in a 2D Cinema Screen without any Zoom Option.
And this costs 600 Euros for an Headset, which cant used as Standalone Headset, the Controllers work only for 4 Hours.. There is only Gran Turismo 7 on PSVR2, i can play more than 10 Racing Sims on PC right now with better Graphics, thanks to Vorpx and i dont have to pay for Online Gaming ;)

With PCVR and Pico 4 (Just 430 Euros) you can play via Vorpx so many games in really great VR, there are so much more possibilities.

With Virtual Desktop or the Vorpx Desktop Viewer and the right Software, which shows the 3D Blu Rays Movie in SBS, you are able to watch them on your PC Headset easily in SBS Mode.
Or you could rip your own BluRays as SBS Movies and put them on your Standalone PCVR Headset and watch them, without any Console or PC.

PCVR is the future, PSVR2 is just for user, who just own a PS5 and dont like to play with anything else on PC or just want an Plug an Play Experience.

I think it wouldn’t have been difficult to add 3D BluRay support on the PS5…

    But :)

    So, I downloaded the mod.

Went through the tutorial. Got the green tick with all the gestures. Started the game and not all the controls work.

The trigger controls do work to access the Vorpx menu.
The headset works to look around the game.
But the oculus controller buttons including thumbstick don’t work.

Also, when I change any graphics settings in the game menu it doesn’t seem to make a difference in the oculus. I presume the Vorpx menu overrides the game system settings.

I can use my mouse and keyboard.

I’ve tried re-installing cyberpunk through STEAM. I’ve turned off theatre mode. I’ve tried reinstalling the vorpx mod. I’ve tried stationary boundary and room boundary.

The Oculus is linked using a cable.

I’m running the latest Nvidia GPU DRIVER with my 3080.
I’m running the latest Cyberpunk 2077 update.

Ideally, I’d like to be able to use the oculus controllers but if that’s not possible then I would like to change the settings so that the Field of View is better and not so jittery. It’s really difficult to read any text that comes up in the game on HUD on the Oculus headset. Next to impossible to read anything.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

A followup question. I would prefer to use rewasd for my keymapping (because it lets me keep same control scheme between PC, VR and steam deck).

I tried changing the control modes but all of them seem to force additional functions onto my gamepad. Is there any way to make vorpx not map anything to a normal gamepad?

Regarding my original question, I was able to load the game in vorpx by changing to an unrecognized exe name. But how do I give vorpx the information it needs to enable geometry3d for it?

Please excuse me if this is the wrong place to put this or if this is a common question. I am unsure how to search this forum for previous posts.

I am trying to use Vorpx for Elden Ring in conjunction with fps mod. Sseems to work alright except that with head tracking on, if I press even slightly left or right on the controllers joy stick it is inputting left or right on dpad. Which means I swap weapons whenever trying to move. I am not able to find anything in regards to vorpx and how the headtracking might cause these inputs.

If anyone can point me in the right direction for this info it would be much appreciated.

Last week I installed “VorpX” to enjoy VR in my “Oculus Rift” headset For convenience, I made the shortcut appear in the taskbar near the clock (notification center ) I started by reading your Guide for New Users, as well as many posts on your forum.
Being myself a programmer (but not game software), I know the importance of getting information before notifying anomalies.

Once this step was completed, I tested the software on 2 train simulators: “TS Classic” and “TSW3”
Congratulations by the way, for your work: the immersion in “Full VR mode” is very successful

But, keeping a VR headset on your head for more than 2 hours is quite painful
So I decided to quit VorpX cleanly and restart the game in normal mode.
(right click on the “vorpX Control” icon > Exit > Confirm with OK)

With TSW3, the game behaved normally. Unfortunately, with TS Classic, I encountered a small problem: In the cabin view, it was no longer possible for me to orient my view with the mouse! (by default, you perform a held right click to move your gaze inside the driver’s cabin)
In fact, the trackIR of your software had remained abnormally connected…

I explain the problem on the Steam forum concerning this simulator
(with temporary workaround to fix this issue) https://steamcommunity.com/app/24010/discussions/3/3192494154703441823/

I hope you may find the solution to this inconvenience? Good day

Mod looks really cool. I’m able to load into the start room, run through the tutorial. The gestures work in the start room just fine. But as soon as I press “continue” in order to enter the actual game, my controller inputs don’t do anything at all. Is there something basic i’m missing?

The solution for the grainy camera control at low speeds was simple. (Different DPI settings for the mouse didn’t have any effect, btw.)

In the vorpX menu, i discovered thumbstick sensitivity settings for the gamepad and set the right stick very high (1.00), while setting the mouse sensitivity in-game very low (0.15). Now super slow camera movements are very smooth, and i can take my time when enjoying the diverse beauty of the Witcher world. :)
