    21/06/17
    vorpX 21.2.1 has been released.

Originally this was supposed to be just a maintenance update, but in the end became an almost-major-release due to two huge additions in the form of vorpX connection mods for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 that provide a great out-of-the box FullVR experience for both games. Both are still somewhat beta, but good enough for a first public release.

The connection mods implement perfect 1:1 headtracking, decoupled walk/look/aim, auto switching to EdgePeek in cutscenes and menu screens for improved comfort, and unique VR optimized cameras for both games that get rid of nauseating head bobbing and whenever possible the equally nauseating moments where the games briefly take away control, e.g. when entering a car or mounting a horse.

They also add Alternate Frame Geometry 3D for both games. If you are sensitive to the comfort issues inherent to AFR 3D, vorpX’s built in 3D methods are still available without losing the other benefits of the more direct connection like positional tracking and decoupled walk/look.

Nice detail: For the heck of it GTA V got an additional driving view that mounts the camera on a car’s hood, similar to what you may know from many racing games. Turned out to be the most fun and immersive way to cruise through Los Santos you may have ever experienced.

    Full changelog:

    • Dedicated connection mods (BETA) for Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V to provide a great out-of-the-box FullVR experince: VR optimized cameras, decoupled walk/look, auto EdgePeek handling, alternate frame G3D, and more.
    • The shader authoring tool can be used on top of official profiles now.
    • Profiles can now be restored to default from within the game, having to switch to the config app for that was always a bit clunky.
    • Internal frame interpolation can handle alternate eye rendering without relying on support provided by headset runtimes.
    • Fallback hooking mode that improves compatibility with some mod loaders (e.g. Resident Evil 2)
    • ‘Loft’ cinema environment (finally) finalized.
    • Some textures were blurry in cinema scenes since earlier this year.
    • OpenXR now working for games that utilize nVidia Ansel, e.g. SW: Battlefront 2.
    • DirectVR memory scanner caching didn’t always work as intended.
    • D3D9: Fixed a regression that could cause heavy flicker in older fixed function pipeline games (e.g. GTA: Vice City with the D3D8>D3D9 wrapper)
    • Head roll wasn’t always applied as intended (e.g. Resident Evil 7)
    • Some Epic Launcher and EA Desktop related improvements
    • Elder Scrolls Online: HUD shader fixed for latest game release.
    • Fallout 4: Lightning shader fixed (thanks RJK)
    • Skyrim SE: Some effect fixes (thanks RJK)
    • Mass Effect: Legendary Edition: ME1/2: G3D/Z3D profiles added, note that G3D performance isn’t exactly great due to a somewhat ineffecient D3D9 to D3D11 conversion. Especially for ME2, which doesn’t look that much better, the DX9 original is still recommended.
    • MPC-HC/VLC: some default settings tweaks,

    FYI this was solved by:

    1. Deleted all Fallout 76 ini files from C:\Users\myaccount\Documents\My Games\Fallout 76
    2. Configured VorpX to run as Administrator
    3. Launched Fallout 76 as Administrator

I’m having the same issue with my Vive Pro Eye, regardless of headset type selection.
Using Revive for Oculus compatibility layer gives the same results as SteamVR.

I play the Trilogy for the first time, and after 11 hours i have to say it is a fantastic experience to play it in G3D with “living” NPC’s. Forget Skyrim VR or Fallout 4 VR, the NPCs are technical outdated in that games and are not impressive enough to believe that they are “living”. But the Mass Effect Legendary Edition blows me away !!!

Next week will Days Gone be released with also Unreal Engine DX11 support, and we will get a second Blockbuster in G3D with “living” NPCs. It’s a pity, that we can’t play every game in G3D. I would buy a second expansive graphic card, if it would be of any use.

    Hey Ralf,

I am sorry to say but this is a fresh install (no mods, no enb etc. whatsoever) and it only happens in Fallout 4 (all of my other games run very well). I have not touched modding in this game and on this rig anyway. And it happens on a new save as well. Well, I created a short video so you can see for yourself what I mean (since it’s the same within the headset) –> https://youtu.be/llzv9scEicw

Thanks for the hint with the preset, though. I didn’t even know something like this existed. But at this point F4 is unfortunately unplayable for me. Hm.

Edit: I noticed something: If I play in first person then this happens significantly less. So vorpx (or the game?) reacts to “mousemovement” + 3rd person with “flashes”. Without vorpx there is no problem at all.

First I am very impressed by the performance. Resoloution is rather low (800×600) but the game still LOOKS GREAT and performs very smoothly in G3D. I couldn’t believe my eyes since many games seem to scale very poorly with (my) hardware in vorpx. Unfortunately it’s unplayable due to the fact that textures (?) cause flashy glitches which take away most of your field of vision. If I start the game without vorpx everything works just fine so it’s caused by vorpx.

If there is a way to fix this it would be very appreciated. I love to play all bethesda games in 3rd Person view hence the VR adaption is a big no-go for me.

Below is the list list of games that this feature will be enabled for in vorpX 21.2.0 (release tomorrow).

Tweakable options include the feature mode (off/auto hide/size and position only/always hidden), the auto hide timeout, the position of the weapon in 3d space, and weapon FOV and 3D-Strength for tweaking its size. Shouldn’t really be necessary to tweak anything though. Each profile has carefully chosen individual defaults that work just fine.

    Games for the first release:

    – Half-Life 2 (+episodes)
    – Portal 2
    – Black Mesa Source
    – Titanfall 2
    – Fallout 4
    – Crysis
    – Skyrim Special Edition
    – Aliens: Colonial Marines

More games will follow shortly, I’m fairly confident that adding the feature will be possible for about 4 out of 5 potential candidates, i.e. first person G3D games.

Note that in this first release there is no UI for changing gamepad/key assignments, will also follow shortly. For the time being make sure to use a game’s default bindings, otherwise vorpX might not be able to reliably detect when the weapon is supposed to be shown/hidden under all circumstances.

Hi. I am completely new to VorpX. I am using Rift S with my Lenovo Legion Y540 laptop. It has I7 9th gen, RTX 2060 and 32 GB RAM onboard. Display is 1920×1080 px.

I think I tried everything and can’t launch VorpX with most of my games. Only very few of them work with no issues (like Metro 2033 or Fallout New Vegas).
Tried to hook it up with Witcher 3, CP2077, Subnautica Below Zero, 7 days to die, BeamNG Drive, Satisfactory, Space Engineers and many more. I added custom resolutions in NVidia CP, tried to change in-game setting and still nothing :(
Help me please! I don’t know what to do.
    Desktop Viewer works perfectly fine.

I can generally get better visuals with games using VorpX, as I play a lot in Cinema/Immersive modes and I don’t need 80-90fps, I can get away with 30-40 and crank up the visuals if thats what I’m after.
Eg. I’d rather play skyrim/fallout4 in VorpX as I can do this with all the mods, etc.

But subnautica I’d rather just use VR.

Can’t really say much to the Witcher 3 issue. Probably more of an Oculus issue than anything else, but if you want, create a trouble shoot data archive in the config app when that happens next time and send it to support at vorpx com. I’d like to check whether the vorpX logfile shows anything unusual.

Stick to first person in Fallout 4. If you want to play Fallout 4 in third person view, you have to disable DirectVR. The third person camara apparently dislikes the memory scanner FOV override.

Last night i decided to try a new game: Fallout 4 with VorpX.
Played almost one hour but there is another issue with this game that makes it tough to continue:

In dialogues or 3rd person view some textures blink (appear/disappear) or the image from another angle flashes at random intervals. Even in the mirror scene when you choose the character appearance. I restarted the game twice and even got some horizontal black bars flashing.

@ xilc: With the Link cable there is no need for using SteamVR with a Quest usually except for some DX12 games. Try to run vorpX in native Oculus mode by selecting Oculus as your headset type in the vorpX config app.

SteamVR is only needed for Virtual Desktop. In that case you have to select SteamVR as headset type in the vorpX config app AND enable SteamVR capturing in Virtual Desktop.

Hi — I tried this, and it works for Left 4 Dead 2, Fallout 4… Just not World of Warcraft. Is this game no longer supported?

Skyrim absolutely sucked in VR and I could never get it to work properly.

Well as far as i remember, they totally fu**ed up SKYRIM VR and FALLOUT VR, on the other hand…the community worked out something like 1000s of mods to make (at least SKYRIM VR) work better…but that again means to fu** around with trying out those mods to begin with, so all in all i guess those games are a pretty pain in the a** in VR after all. (no clue if there are vorpX profiles for them, haven´t looked for them yet coz there are hundreds of other titles i feel more important to try out in vorpX)

But there are native VR games to play seated …and I have to say that there are a LOT of those.
You just need to get those types of controls, and you will get full VR around you with the way to control as you want.

Well of course i am aware of it and i also played a few good titles in VR, the main problem here is that all in all i wasn´t THAT hooked onto those games as probably other users are.

But what really made me hooked is playing all “regular” games on this huge theater screen in bigscreen beta, despite having it´s flaws, in fact flaws which vorpX doesn´t suffer from and that was the reason for me to buy vorpX to begin with, regardless of whether or not me using it the “appropriate”way, as some other users here were trying so hard to get me to (in that certain way i felt wasn´t right, so that´s why i felt for replying in a certain “harsh” way, but then again i don´t call myself “toxic” for nothing)

So, as i already said, it was actually bigscreen beta and vorpX who saved VR for me, neither HL:ALYX nor all those game developers trying so hard to bring great VR games, coz now i am actually get in the mood again to finally dig myself more into full VR experiences than ever before, and if i am gettin somehow bored with exclusive VR titles again, then there is still the joy of playing regular games on huge theater-screens and that is finally the experience i never want to miss out on ever again.

Since i enjoyed my first game on a theater screen, i wasn´t playing any game without my VR goggles ever again, now i just hope VR goggles can actually handle being used on a daily basis, for several hours a day.

    Hi All,

My Search-Fu is failing me today.

I’ve tried the ‘provided’ Fallout 76 profiles but the sides are cut off when wearing power armor and I can’t see my health and ammo meters even when I ‘peak’ out using the middle mouse button. Is there a setting I can tweak to make the view see these things? Thanks in advance if this was already answered from a newb.

    Best Regards,
    Kruge99

forgive the copy and paste mods but I feel my reply to another post does answer this

“I bought VorpX to use with Fallout 76, I’ve had 3 diffarent results, 1st result was great, could read everything, move quite smoothly ect, nothing bad to say but I had the chatmod installed and it caused a conflict with the enter key so I removed that mod, also, as I was testing things, I tried a 2nd profile for Fallout 76, this wasn’t so great even though I’m no longer using the chat mod, so I reverted back to the 1st profile I tried.

everything was better again… except now a 5th of the pipboy doesn’t show on screen and the text… normal loot text looked like it was too small and unable to render properly, used the edge peak and it all became readable, so at this point, I took of the head set (oculus Rift S btw) and looked at my monitor… Fallout 76 was only half my screen rez and looked horrid, I reset the screen res but got distracted by my team mates and ended up playing back at my normal 1920×1080 rez but to FOV was still set to the VR (not really a issue once I got used to it lol) and then it was too late to hook in the VorpX to retest but I did notice that my pipboy and text was again all on screen and also readable when I was playing with out the VR hooked in, I’ll test later with VorpX hooked in but I’m hoping this will help figure out why your game looked the way it did :) I will also update this with my findings later”
