He doesn’t charge a lot for his work. He has to make it harder to install to keep people from ripping him off left and right. Its beta software for development gear, there will be kinks along the way. It can be a pain to have to email for new code but its more of a pain trying to develope when all people want to do is steal from you and or talk shit. Dumb people who don’t even have a rift or vorpx post here and that’s sad just like them lol It would be nice to have an easier code system but look at it from ralfs side. He works hard, and the whole time he can hear the wolves at the door… so he makes it tougher for them to get in.

I think the first mistake dk1 possibly get right now … dk1 has too many shortcomings.
Apart from this, direct mode oculus … never works with dk1,not even to for games /demos native,so it appeared later on dk2.
Similarly to date, all 3d driver vorpx or other existing, only work in extended mode. (clone for dk1)To this day or some exception.

I remember that there is a version vorpx more suitable for use with dk1…but you may have to contact support.

So I have managed to get hold of a DK1 and thought I’d give outlast a try. After spending ages getting the Oculus config program to even recognise that the oculus was attached, I managed to get into outlast and play for a couple of minutes.

However, I can no longer get it to start whilst the OVRService is running. The icon appears on the task bar, but no window or anything (either on the rift or my monitor).

I have the DK1 setup in extended mode, 1200 * 800 resolution at 75hz, NOT as the main display. (this is the only setup the config util / vorpx will recognise the rift with!). In vorpx I have it set to display on the rift. I have also tried the direct mode but vorpx doesn’t seem to find the rift when setup like this.

I can’t for the life of me figure out what I am doing differently from the first time I got it to start. Any suggestions would be appriciated as so far I’ve spent alot of money here for nothing!

So got my DK2 through on Friday there [3 days ago] and have spent time on and off over the weekend to get it into a usable state, easier said than done so it seems. Figured I’d post my experience in case it proves useful for anyone else having similar issues.

First up: Oculus Runtime DK2 for Windows, grabbed this from the official Oculus site

Once the Oculus config tool is up and running and working properly I had to set the viewing mode from ‘Direct App Access’ to ‘Part of Extended Desktop’. Running Direct Access nothing VorpX was meant to pickup would run on the DK2.

Secondly: VorpX installed itself ok and booted up fine after a restart of my comp. This is where the issues really started.

First time I tried to launch something I noticed it would only run on my monitor, not on the DK2. So I started playing with the windows 7 Screen resolution settings to see if I could find a solution.

I had four or five different aggravating setups at one point or another. With the monitors set to ‘extend’ and the DK2 at 1080×1920 and landscape flipped as it’s meant to be to work games would open without fail on the monitor instead of the DK2.

To try and combat this I went down the route of ‘Cloning’ the monitors, this resulted in a bizarre problem where the game would launch but only exist in a tiny strip down the left hand side of the screen so I was forced to switch back to extend mode.

In order to force games to run on the DK2 I [without thinking it through] then went on to set the DK2 to primary monitor. This let me run games perfectly on the DK2, or it would have had I been able to use the rift lenses to actually see and navigate the desktop.

After an hour or so of just trying to get my monitor back to my primary display I was about ready to give up and decided to have a go with a 3rd party tool I used to use for getting two different desktop backgrounds on my pc at work. This being ‘DisplayFusion’ google it for info. This turned out to the saving grace of the operation and is something I’d highly recommend to everyone having issues getting DK2 and VorpX to run properly. After setting the DK2 back to primary display I toggled a few settings around to finalize things.

Within DisplayFusion you can turn on ‘multiple taskbars’ setting the option for all taskbars to display all windows allows you to use the start menu and view open windows on your monitor even with the DK2 set as primary display. It may take a little while to rebuild your desktop shortcuts onto the monitor again but after that it’s just like having the monitor as the primary display but programs including games will open naturally on the DK2.

After that when opening programs and such they’ll try to open on the rift yes but with DisplayFusion installed you can shift-right click on icons in the taskbar choose to move them to another monitor, allowing you to use a monitor as normal.

After that a few personal preferences to get things more comfortable for me. Using the [DEL] key menu in-game to turn off VorpX gamepad handling was first priority, after that was off I used another third party program called Xpadder [again google it] to overwrite the functionality of the 360 controllers guide button in favor of pressing the middle mouse button instead to toggle on/off edge peek as I feel this is the only VorpX specific function totally necessary for normal play.

That’s my story, loving it now. Great product folks but a bit of a bother to get running perfectly right away. Hope this might help out a few folk that are having similar issue to what I went through.

I’m sorry but I’ve purchased this software quite a while ago, i used it a couple of times to no avail. Gave up. Tries to start it this morning and it says files missing. Turns out WIndows defender deleted your files and now I can’t even redownload it because you guys can’t post a regular download link/Download REQUEST link ANYWHERE. How am i supposed to download my purchased software now? The previous link expired. No customer support phone number, No live chat. Just shitty email support which takes 2-3 weeks to get a reply. Is this company being run by an 18 year old that just learned how to code? Get more customer service reps so you can reply to emails faster than 2-3 weeks. And if there are any moderators going through these forums at least once a month COuld you please send me a new download link because this is starting to fucking piss me off.

I’ve searched the forums have found many problems relatively close to mine. I’ve done everything.. set to extended tried making it the main screen etc. When it’s in extended mode all I can see is my desktop can’t look around or anything.. which is fine thinking it would run once the game begins.. wrong when the game starts I have position tracking on my monitor but the DK2 still only shows my desktop. I’ve tried this for countless games. I’ve tried literally everything to get this thing working. I am the last person to come to a forum and ask for help.. but I don’t know what else to do. The odds are whatever is replied I’ve probably tried it. The only way I’ve even been able to run games is by making my DK2 the primary monitor and this makes everything frustrating because you can’t look around the desktop to actually get a game running because you can’t find the play button. If anyone has come across this problem please help.. Thanks in advance.

I’m playing on medium settings and getting a constant 90 / 100 FPS (according to the Vorpx FPS tracker)

I changed to Dx9 manually and changed the FOV in game, but the Vorpx optimizer also says it has “Latency Optimization” which I cannot enable due to the path not being found?

The whole game judders / blurs even on login / loading screens before I get into the game itself.

@Karlor Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try. It is kinda funny when I think about how frustrated I get when it happens. =D I mean really so I got clobbered because I clicked the trigger to slash the villain but instead sheathed my sword like a dummy. Now I want my revenge lol.

    Hi all,

I have been trying to get my XBOX360 wired USB gamepad to work with Skyrim. I have no problems with the visuals; everything looks great. I ready through the information here in the forums and determined that I must allow VorpX to handle my gamepad mapping and so I pressed DELETE while in game and switched to the gamepad mapping page and mapped everything according to the default configuration of Skyrim.

Unfortunately even after doing this and saving the settings the B button refuses to stay set as I have remapped and saved several times, until after great frustration I surrender and quit VorpX.

It seems that B button is by default mapped to TAB and this does many odd things under VorpX, such as, it bring up a steam chat client sometimes and other times it works as expected. The LT and RT buttons will not stay mapped as attack left / right like left click / right click. If I press DELETE again to check that my mapping is setup correctly everything is as I left it but it’s a lie, nothing works correctly.

Then, to top it off, when I become exasperated by this BS and exit the game to regain my composure, my mouse auto-selects everything in the browser window (text) or all files in the explorer window as if I am holding down shift with the first element preselected and unable to deselect making it impossible to select only one item (unless I really only want the first item). I exit VorpX and nothing changes until I restart my operating system.

I do hope that this can be corrected as the Oculus is useless if I have to keep peeking to find buttons on my keyboard to use it, and besides that I have a gamepad so that I don’t have to memorize keyboard layouts for gaming. This is a dealbreaker and I cannot conscientiously recommend this product to anyone if I hate using it due to this basic flaw.

Been using a new computer rig with Oculus Rift dk2 for 3 weeks now, everything ran perfectly until I installed Vorpx. Here’s a rough description:

    intel core i7 cpu
    32gb ram
    GeForce gtx 980 (latest drivers)
    Oculus Rift Dk2 (latest drivers)
    windows 8.1 (latest updates)

Installed VorpX, selected a game in the VorpX config panel and ticked the run in administrator mode. After that the system started going unstable, freezing 4 times in a period of 2 hours (had to manually reset the OS) during games and even in the desktop without any games running.

It went so bad with the freezing and resetting that it caused errors in the booting sectors and the system was unable to get into the OS. I ended up repairing those booting errors in safe mode and uninstalling VorpX completely, everything went back to normal after that.

Do you have any suggestions ?

Honestly I am afraid to install VorpX again and damage my hardware.

First of all- thanks Ralf for this awesome application/software/magical spell…
Now to the problem- I cant seem to make it work properly. The game starts in 3D but way zoomed in. Then when I hit del button the vorpx menu appears for a second and then disappears. Pressing alt+tab takes me out of the game but the cursor gets stuck to the centre of the pc screen. I get control of the cursor inly when I exit the game But vorpx menu is not appearing even when I go back in the game.
I tried to play after applying settings (in vorpx config) and then reverting them. No luck. I press the edge peak button and the image zooms out making I more easy to look at without squinting.
Any suggestions? Btw I downloaded the game on my laptop and them moved the file to my pc. Initiated the download via origin then copied the laptop files from laptop for quick installation. Then I verified file integrity and the game worked fine after that.
PS. I have only tried ‘test range’ will try single player and report back.

I sort of think the opposite about moving your head. Even if the frame rate isn’t great I find moving my head to look makes me way way less sick then just staring forward and having the world move around me. But definitely I agree about not whipping your head around all fast crazy. That’s a sure fire way to instantly enter the sick zone.

When I first tried vorpX(and the Rift in general) I would get dizzy but I found adjusting my IPD(I was using factory Rift settings) and turning down the 3D in some games helped dramatically.

Also if your PC isn’t exactly a power house try having nothing else running and turn down the in game settings to see if you can bump up your frame rate.

I could only play for about an hour every other couple hours when I first got the Rift. Now I can flip around, dip dive dangle and it doesn’t bother me. Hopefully after time you can get used to it. It’s does sucks some people get sick even after trying to adjust to it.

Ok, the FOSE issue was my fault. The fose loader wouldn’t run b/c I removed the d3d9.dll file that it needs when I was trying to troubleshoot the general inability to run the game at all through vorpx earlier. I put the fose files all back fresh into the folder where fallout3.exe lives and now it will launch from the script extender and is rendered on the rift fine.

This is great b/c many of the UI mods require the script extender.

I’ll report back if I get a good working 360 controller setup that allows reasonably easy pipboy navigation.

And yes, I’m anxiously awaiting the E3 event too. Should be good regardless of what they show there, but I think a lot of us are hoping for fallout 4 news!

Please contact support |at| vorpx com to get the last (and only) version which we were able to test with the dSight.

We only had a prototype for a short time to add support last year. Please be aware that it’s not even guarenteed that the current dSight version does still work with that particular vorpX version. With no way of testing that’s all I can offer.

Good deal! You’ll get the hang of it. There is definitely a learning curve but that’s with anything new. When you get comfortable with those settings you can go into vorpX config and turn on the sweg mlg “expert” settings. It adds even more things to get confused about lol no it’s really not bad just takes some time to get used to what everything does. The good news is once you get used to what everything does, and how to get what you want out of the program, its the same for every game. So you’ll be able to jump in and tune in a game and then not worry about it.
