Topic: Outlast won’t start
So I have managed to get hold of a DK1 and thought I’d give outlast a try. After spending ages getting the Oculus config program to even recognise that the oculus was attached, I managed to get into outlast and play for a couple of minutes.
However, I can no longer get it to start whilst the OVRService is running. The icon appears on the task bar, but no window or anything (either on the rift or my monitor).
I have the DK1 setup in extended mode, 1200 * 800 resolution at 75hz, NOT as the main display. (this is the only setup the config util / vorpx will recognise the rift with!). In vorpx I have it set to display on the rift. I have also tried the direct mode but vorpx doesn’t seem to find the rift when setup like this.
I can’t for the life of me figure out what I am doing differently from the first time I got it to start. Any suggestions would be appriciated as so far I’ve spent alot of money here for nothing!
So got my DK2 through on Friday there [3 days ago] and have spent time on and off over the weekend to get it into a usable state, easier said than done so it seems. Figured I’d post my experience in case it proves useful for anyone else having similar issues.
First up: Oculus Runtime DK2 for Windows, grabbed this from the official Oculus site
Once the Oculus config tool is up and running and working properly I had to set the viewing mode from ‘Direct App Access’ to ‘Part of Extended Desktop’. Running Direct Access nothing VorpX was meant to pickup would run on the DK2.
Secondly: VorpX installed itself ok and booted up fine after a restart of my comp. This is where the issues really started.
First time I tried to launch something I noticed it would only run on my monitor, not on the DK2. So I started playing with the windows 7 Screen resolution settings to see if I could find a solution.
I had four or five different aggravating setups at one point or another. With the monitors set to ‘extend’ and the DK2 at 1080×1920 and landscape flipped as it’s meant to be to work games would open without fail on the monitor instead of the DK2.
To try and combat this I went down the route of ‘Cloning’ the monitors, this resulted in a bizarre problem where the game would launch but only exist in a tiny strip down the left hand side of the screen so I was forced to switch back to extend mode.
In order to force games to run on the DK2 I [without thinking it through] then went on to set the DK2 to primary monitor. This let me run games perfectly on the DK2, or it would have had I been able to use the rift lenses to actually see and navigate the desktop.
After an hour or so of just trying to get my monitor back to my primary display I was about ready to give up and decided to have a go with a 3rd party tool I used to use for getting two different desktop backgrounds on my pc at work. This being ‘DisplayFusion’ google it for info. This turned out to the saving grace of the operation and is something I’d highly recommend to everyone having issues getting DK2 and VorpX to run properly. After setting the DK2 back to primary display I toggled a few settings around to finalize things.
Within DisplayFusion you can turn on ‘multiple taskbars’ setting the option for all taskbars to display all windows allows you to use the start menu and view open windows on your monitor even with the DK2 set as primary display. It may take a little while to rebuild your desktop shortcuts onto the monitor again but after that it’s just like having the monitor as the primary display but programs including games will open naturally on the DK2.
After that when opening programs and such they’ll try to open on the rift yes but with DisplayFusion installed you can shift-right click on icons in the taskbar choose to move them to another monitor, allowing you to use a monitor as normal.
After that a few personal preferences to get things more comfortable for me. Using the [DEL] key menu in-game to turn off VorpX gamepad handling was first priority, after that was off I used another third party program called Xpadder [again google it] to overwrite the functionality of the 360 controllers guide button in favor of pressing the middle mouse button instead to toggle on/off edge peek as I feel this is the only VorpX specific function totally necessary for normal play.
That’s my story, loving it now. Great product folks but a bit of a bother to get running perfectly right away. Hope this might help out a few folk that are having similar issue to what I went through.

I’m sorry but I’ve purchased this software quite a while ago, i used it a couple of times to no avail. Gave up. Tries to start it this morning and it says files missing. Turns out WIndows defender deleted your files and now I can’t even redownload it because you guys can’t post a regular download link/Download REQUEST link ANYWHERE. How am i supposed to download my purchased software now? The previous link expired. No customer support phone number, No live chat. Just shitty email support which takes 2-3 weeks to get a reply. Is this company being run by an 18 year old that just learned how to code? Get more customer service reps so you can reply to emails faster than 2-3 weeks. And if there are any moderators going through these forums at least once a month COuld you please send me a new download link because this is starting to fucking piss me off.
Topic: Vorpx DK2 troubleshooting
I’ve searched the forums have found many problems relatively close to mine. I’ve done everything.. set to extended tried making it the main screen etc. When it’s in extended mode all I can see is my desktop can’t look around or anything.. which is fine thinking it would run once the game begins.. wrong when the game starts I have position tracking on my monitor but the DK2 still only shows my desktop. I’ve tried this for countless games. I’ve tried literally everything to get this thing working. I am the last person to come to a forum and ask for help.. but I don’t know what else to do. The odds are whatever is replied I’ve probably tried it. The only way I’ve even been able to run games is by making my DK2 the primary monitor and this makes everything frustrating because you can’t look around the desktop to actually get a game running because you can’t find the play button. If anyone has come across this problem please help.. Thanks in advance.
Hi all,
I have been trying to get my XBOX360 wired USB gamepad to work with Skyrim. I have no problems with the visuals; everything looks great. I ready through the information here in the forums and determined that I must allow VorpX to handle my gamepad mapping and so I pressed
DELETEwhile in game and switched to the gamepad mapping page and mapped everything according to the default configuration of Skyrim.Unfortunately even after doing this and saving the settings the
Bbutton refuses to stay set as I have remapped and saved several times, until after great frustration I surrender and quit VorpX.It seems that
Bbutton is by default mapped toTABand this does many odd things under VorpX, such as, it bring up a steam chat client sometimes and other times it works as expected. TheLTandRTbuttons will not stay mapped as attack left / right like left click / right click. If I pressDELETEagain to check that my mapping is setup correctly everything is as I left it but it’s a lie, nothing works correctly. Then, to top it off, when I become exasperated by this BS and exit the game to regain my composure, my mouse auto-selects everything in the browser window (text) or all files in the explorer window as if I am holding down shift with the first element preselected and unable to deselect making it impossible to select only one item (unless I really only want the first item). I exit VorpX and nothing changes until I restart my operating system.
I do hope that this can be corrected as the Oculus is useless if I have to keep peeking to find buttons on my keyboard to use it, and besides that I have a gamepad so that I don’t have to memorize keyboard layouts for gaming. This is a dealbreaker and I cannot conscientiously recommend this product to anyone if I hate using it due to this basic flaw.

if it is helpful, here are my system specs:AMD FX-8320 Eight-Core Processor 3.51 GHz
16 GB RAM
Windows 8.1 64-bit
NVIDIA Geforce GTX Titan Black
Oculus Rift DK2
XBOX360 USB (wired)
VorpX 0.8.1.0 betaBeen using a new computer rig with Oculus Rift dk2 for 3 weeks now, everything ran perfectly until I installed Vorpx. Here’s a rough description:
intel core i7 cpu
32gb ram
GeForce gtx 980 (latest drivers)
Oculus Rift Dk2 (latest drivers)
windows 8.1 (latest updates)Installed VorpX, selected a game in the VorpX config panel and ticked the run in administrator mode. After that the system started going unstable, freezing 4 times in a period of 2 hours (had to manually reset the OS) during games and even in the desktop without any games running.
It went so bad with the freezing and resetting that it caused errors in the booting sectors and the system was unable to get into the OS. I ended up repairing those booting errors in safe mode and uninstalling VorpX completely, everything went back to normal after that.
Do you have any suggestions ?
Honestly I am afraid to install VorpX again and damage my hardware.
