I’d just like to start a thread for users to post suggestions for future updates of vorpx as I have not seen an official thread for this yet. :)

    I’ll start.

1 – Would like to be able to set up the gamepad bindings outside of the game. Perhaps in the vorpx config menu inside the game optimization menu for each game there could be a button to go into the gamepad bindings menu. I like to program the game bindings with the help of a quick and convenient google search, which can’t be done within some games because they crash when I minimize them. Even if they didn’t, its still annoying to constantly be switching back and forth between the two or even using the in-game controls list is awkward to use cause the vorpx menu and the game menu don’t overlap well. (Perhaps being able to change the transparency would help that)

2 – That leads into my second suggestion. Eventually it would be nice if players could trade gamepad configs or download pre-set up configs for their games. (I found the default one is not set up properly in skyrim)

3 – This one has already been brought up but lets put it here too. It would be great to be able to change the Vorpx default key mappings for recentering the positional tracking as this conflicts with some games. Skyrim for sure. Although Ralph has already stated it is going to be dealt with.

4 – I would like to be able to set the 3d depth higher than 2.5 in Z-Buffer 3d mode. Is this possible? Also convergence settings, are they possible too? Is there a difference between convergence and the IPD? Either way, if it’s possible a little more flexibility in Z-Buffer would make it better in my opinion. Not that I’m complaining, the fps is great for what you get as is. Just wondering if it can be made better.

Okay, those are the main things I’ve been thinking about when I’m play with VorpX but don’t get me wrong! I’m still blown away and love every second of it! The idea of this thread is to offer ideas and suggestions that may or may not make their way into future updates down the line. Just a place for us to talk about what we would like to see in future updates. Near or far. :)

Thank you to the VorpX team for making our VR dreams come true! :D

The old version I mean, since it uses DX9. At low settings it’s very playable. You have to change the fov on the cfg file (there are two, inside the game folder and inside steamapps folder I think, google it). My biggest problem is that the game seems to have some kind of vsync issue or tearing that I couldn’t fix, even though I turned it on in the cfg. Still quite playable, recommended.

    Hi there,
I just tried VorpX with both Skyrim and Left 4 Dead 2, after a lot of fiddling I was able to get it running somewhat smoothly, but what really bugs me the 3D effect I get.
At default settings everything feels very flat, like as watching a movie on a flat screen, and only objects that are really close seem to have 3 dimensons. If I crank up the 3D Strengh slider all the way up I now get a nice 3D effect from farther objects but everything seems zoomed out/small, feels like I am inside a dollhouse or something. I
I tried raising the FOV both through console and the FOV Enchancement slider, but everything still looks small.
Is this how things are supposed to be? You just strike a balance between 3D Strength and FOV that is suitable to your tastes or is there an optimal setting to correct this where you can have both a nice 3D effect from distance and a good scaling/FOV?
By the way, I tried both Geometry and the Z modes in Skyrim, they both seem to behave like this…

    Thanks!

    Hello,
Just bought VorpX today. I’ve tried to play CoD Black Ops 2 and CoD Black Ops 1 on my DK2.
I read on the net some Config to place with “DEL” Button inside the game. But i can’t find a good experience.

The two images are too far, and i see all doubled on my rift (like the 3D is too strong).

Changing the options didn’t solve the problem.

    Any advice? :)

    Thank you :D

yeah Skyrim is working great! I have about 60 mods now installed and it even looks beatiful. My GTX 680 and 8 core AMD CPU handling Skyrim very well on High settings through DK2. I try not to move the head too much as there is still some jittering going on even though not too much. Smooth like a baby’s butt experience in dungeons and world maps, but if I get into city turning head or looking up or down is a bit jittery.

I don’t have to run DK2 as primary display. I usually change resolution of my monitor to 1024×1028, and set it to 75Hz and everything is golden. IPD was the only problem in my case. That’s why things looked doubled. Thanks for VorpX. Without it I’d be still poking around short Demos, some are nice but playing a full game like Skyrim is a whole lot better experience. I almost pooped my pants last night while I was going to the dungeon for quest and all of a sudden this black wolf jumps me from behind the tree. What the heck! LOL.

If any improvements possible I wish VorpX to have “profiles” that can be used in specific games. Like pressing DEL there are bunch of settings to play with while setting VorpX for your best experience. So separate profiles that you can assign to specific game would be great after you play with settings through DEL inside the game and find optimal ones for your eyes and that game, so that VorpX could remember them, or some pre-coded profiles that would change to several optimal settings templates to try etc.

My main gripe probably is that headtracking gives a bit weird impression, thats probably because Skyrim doesn’t really have OR support and VorpX doing its best. I tried to play with image zoom, and different FOV until found the configuration that I could live with.

Anyways, keep up the good work Ralp! You have a birght future ahead of you if you can make VorpX support as many best games as possible, especially these AAA titles like Skyrim. IMHO OR will be very popular in gaming community and being able to play old games with OR on would be an awesome change of experience.

You were right, resolution was wrong with both Stanley Parable and Dear Esther, once changed they looked fine on the DK2. Haven’t tried SP ingame, but Dear Esther looks amazing, great job.

Gone Home looked really bad imho, maybe inside the house it looks better i don’t know, I couldn’t open the door on the first few minutes and left it there.

I will try zbuffer on Aliens during the day, though geometry looks fantastic and check it out, thanks for the suggestion.

    Hi,

I want to play Formula 1 2012 with my DK2 and xbox360 controller. But when I am inside the game neither keyboard nor controller keys seem to work. Setting “Handle gamepad internally” on doesn’t change that. Does any one have any Tipps on how to make this game work? Thanks

    Hey Folks, Ralf especially,

I just wanted to know how that controller emulation works for you people.
I’m still fiddling around, trying to get Skyrim to work with Vorpx – I’d like to play with controller since at times its hard to find the right keys on keyboard.

    What I noticed is:
    – (game issue) Native Xbox360 support in skyrim ON — No headtracking (VorpX emulates mouse movement via headtracking and enabling 360 seems to disable the mouse)

    – (VorpX issue) the movement controls are horrid with the “internal controller handling”. Touching the left stick ever so gently makes you run half a mile into that direction at a fixed speed.

    – (VorpX issue) the standard binds for Xbox360 controller inside VorpX are, well, wrong.
Example: it says (“Left Stick” = S|MouseM) , but hitting it actually hits ESC and brings up the main menu.
I tried rebinding the “Left Stick” to “LCTRL” (for sneaking) – hit Save & Close, but still it seems to emulate pressing ESC

What’s your experience with the emulated gamepad stuff?
Is it just mine that’s crapping out, or is it something that someone should look into in future VorpX updates?

Thanks Ralf, I tried turning VSync off. This made the headtracking smoother but the vertical lines on the screen were far too distracting.

I’ve adjusted the settings and have got to a comfortable level by changing the detail to medium and resolution to 1600×900 from the Skyrim launch options.

Seems something relating to the DK2 is affecting framerates, either inside or outside vorpX.

For anyone adjusting quality settings from the Skyrim launcher – once I had made the changes, the game went crazy with my character spinning uncontrollably. A system restart solved this issue.

Status is still the same: The issue can not be replicated here so far unfortunately, which means there is no way to find a possible cause inside vorpX.

Ace Combat seems like a great game for the Rift, and VorpX seems to do quite well with the visuals, but I’m trying to find a way to make the headtracking work.
ACAH has pretty good support for gamepads, and I have no problem making the analog view panning work with a gamepad as normal, so I got excited when I found the ‘Headtracking as Gamepad’ option inside VorpX. However, I can’t seem to actually make it do anything. I don’t know if this is a problem with the specific game or if I’m doing something wrong, or what. It could be that the game simply doesn’t recognize the gamepad emulation, but I wanted to know if anyone else with more experience has tried this or is interested, because ACAH would be a wicked game for the rift, even with no 3D.
I enable ‘headtracking as gamepad’, but no amount of screwing around with the axes or device number or whatnot will get any response.
When I enable this option, is VorpX creating a virtual joystick? If so, how do I get a game to see it?
Is it hijacking the input from an existing joystick? I’d like to find out more, because I imagine many games get their headtracking from this method.
Any responses are appreciated, and I’ll update if I learn anything.
Thanks to Ralf for this sweet driver, I’m having great fun with it despite these issues ^_^

Ok, seems to be a Windows 8.1 issue. Windows 8 apparently changed the orientation handling, or maybe the Oculus driver reports something else in Windows 8, who knows.

Sorry for the confusion, we skipped the usual pre-release testing cycle to get this release out as soon as possible. I knew that wasn’t a very good idea…

Yep running 8.1 here. And I don’t mind little mistakes like that. I have been waiting for the dk2 support (bought vorpx today) and while I too have problems getting some games to run, I rather use beta drivers than no drivers at all. Lots of tweaks available too inside the game which I like. One feature that I was looking for is a built in fps counter, would that be possible to implement?

For some games I too get the resolution not supported while trying to start a game but I think it tries to use my monitors 2560×1440 resolution instead of OR, I have to try running only with OR connected to see if that helps. Anyway thanks for the drivers Ralf. :)
