Okay – so this is a fluff post but i just enjoy sharing the ‘good’ experiences I find in Vorpx and I think some, not all, but some of us come here for ideas on fun experiences.
So Forza has a mode in it called Eliminator – now this post isnt purely about that mode, but, its why im pointing this out as an exceptionally fun experience.
So Forza is on Xbox Game Pass on PC and therefore can be played in Vorpx Desktop Viewer. I recommend you aim for a high resolution rather than graphics on this one so you can see the edges of the roads/obstacles as clearly as possible.
But anyhow, the game has a first person mode that doesnt work perfectly by any means – youre just plastering the game to your face with immersive screen mode.. but the game mode Eliminator is just such a thrill in first person immersive screen I had to point it out. You dont have control of the camera, youre just surrounding youreself (partially) in the driver seat of your car, but this Eliminator mode is immensely fun to play this way, I just had to point it out to anyone who had GamePass and Vorpx.
Basically in Eliminator youre 1 car in 50-70 fighting to survive to the end (like any battle royale) with cars level 1-10; you can level up your car by winning a race you instigate by honking your horn at someone close to you (like within 30 feet); then a random spot is decided and you race. You win, you get to level up your car, you lose, youre out, like any battle royale.
But the races in first person in this are like speeding thru trees like a Speeder bike in Return of the jedi lol. You just have got to play it to see if its your thing, but get some spotify going or something and just drive along, challenge players, race thru trees and stuff like madmen in first person (kinda vr) lol.
Just wanted to point it out to anyone into driving games and looking for a fun game mode. Hoping they add a team mode to it cause its alot of fun just in solo
I agree, I’m applying the word “fix” to something that isn’t broken but because I’m not sure what else to call it… Maybe a workaround? A readjustment? A recompensation?
Image zoom only works on the “texture” of the game that is presented to the headset though right? I ask this because the empty space I’m referring to, if I put the view mode into immersive, I see the colors of the background of immersive mode, below the in-headset screen — unless I’m remembering incorrectly. Which tells me using image zoom isn’t the correct “fix”. Kind’ve like if you held your hand (and let’s say it’s completely non-textured — we’ll say the hand is pure-white to avoid adding the un-necessary complexity of lighting into the example) in front of your face like 6 inches away, and I adjust image-zoom to make the texture of a hand fit (map correctly) on my hand, I can zoom the image out so that it fits. However, I still see all the background (that is out-of-band from the hand itself) stuff below my hand. So image zoom doesn’t make the correct adjustment. I can make it smaller so I can see all of the hand’s texture on the hand itself, but not without making everything else that was correct scale also smaller. So image zoom isn’t really even a “fix” I would say.

Made a profile for 3rd person RPG Insomnia: The Ark. Profile is purely based off official Vorpx HellBlade profile. G3d works but Zadaptive and Znormal do not appear to add any depth; so you can play it ‘pancake’ but on a big screen, or if your computer can handle it, G3d does seem to work fine, there were some flickering issues with Shadows on high settings with G3d, but I found turning the Shadows down to low eliminated most of that graphical issue.
For the record – I think this is a FANTASTIC game. Its one of the only games I ever purchased in early access cause i was so intrigued and put like 25 hours into it to decide I wanted to wait for it to be ‘finished’; they had originally built it in another engine and so it wasnt compatible with vorpx at all (atleast i couldnt find a way for it to hook); but they updated it to Unreal 4 and it seems like the Hellblade profile will get us good G3d, but like i said, Znormal and Zadaptive, I saw no difference between them and 3d just being set to ‘off’. So if youre computer can handle G3d for the game, only issue I saw was shadows having some odd effects like weve seen in other games, I found turning shadows low helped alleviate that.
Its a really cool game tho, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you wanted a really solid 3rd person RPG with some unique mechanics and a really good, unique environment, I really recommend it.
Good luck getting it running, if my profile on the cloud doesnt work for you, just load the HellBlade profile from Vorpx and use that for the game, it hooked right in with G3D, no problem. Just doesnt appear to have any change for Zadaptive and Znormal compared to pancake.
also want to add – my walking dead saints and sinners recommendation was purely based on if youre okay with graphic violence cause you are doing some horrible stuff in this game lol. so if youre not okay with pretty extreme gore and violence, dont get this lol.
its fun tho, try it out if youre okay with that stuff :P
I knew it was a mistake to even mention dgVoodoo before I did it… :)
Just a heads-up that the dgVoodoo2 profile is purely there for you to play with it and see what is possible. dgVoodoo2 itself is a moving target from my perspective. I have zero influence on its development, it may fail at any time and there won’t be any “official” support for any dgVoodoo2 games at all.
That said, I re-check the profile from time to time to see whether it still generally works, and maybe (*maybe*!) I’ll add something in the future, but do not expect anything in that regard ever. And even if I do, that will still be considered unsupported as far as I’m concerned.
May have been coincidence, but I had a better night tonight with Red Dead on 441.34 hotfix (even though it’s meant to improve Vulkan).
Frame-rate seemed about the same, but not as much stalling. I also didn’t crash once. Perhaps the first night ever, knock on wood.
I removed the cpuRebalance launch argument as well, if that matters.
60fps would be nice, but I don’t think I can give up them lovely vistas. And for me, the dx12 implementation is already very playable. Having it even smoother will be a bonus. Then I can crank it even hi…. joking 😎.
Do you know if it works better than through Virtual Desktop? I tried it briefly yesterday and I think there was some improved performance but that may be purely like a placebo effect.
@ Du1g0 : That hint was pure gold! I spent hours with this thing shortly after release without getting anywhere…
Don’t get overly excited yet, but if all goes well I *might* have a working profile later today.
Hahaha. It is always great that credits goes to someone else :-D
By the way Ralf, this line of configuration edit should be the same for another RE Engine title : Devil May Cry 5.
As far as I know, you have to write the line inside the config file (it is not even there in the ini file). But after writing it, it should be fixed.
I will try it with the same RE 2 cloud profile and the change in the ini file.
Cheers,
@ Du1g0 : That hint was pure gold! I spent hours with this thing shortly after release without getting anywhere…

Thanks moarveer for such a long, detailed reply.
I will check out MRTV and sweviver.
My main use for VR is sitting at a desk with keyboard/mouse.
I will probably try some VR games (especially rollercoasters),
but in general, I intend to play non-VR PC games, new or old, but old is fine.
Currently, I am playing Enderal (mod for Skyrim) and after, I will play
Borderland 2 which I bought on steam sale recently. Just giving you an idea of what I play.
What is your opinion on the importance of field-of-view?
I was thinking that a very high FOV would be very good for gaming.
But then your comment on the HP Reverb seems to disagree with that.
You wrote “and the best device for simulators / 180 movies / Vorpx / 3d playing”
The specs for the Reverb are 114 deg FOV.
The specs for the Pimax 5k are 170 deg FOV.
Is 170 deg FOV better for playing non-VR PC games?
Or 100-120 is good enough?
Or is FOV not so important?
Also, I read about the controversy regarding Pimax 5k vs 8k,
and it reminded me that pixel quality is more important than pixel quantity.
The specs say the HP Reverb has a high pixel quantity, but what do we know about
the pixel quality? What if the image quality on the Reverb is less than other VR sets? How would I know this? I guess I have to read the reviews.
I am leaning towards the Pimax 5k purely for FOV reasons.
But if FOV is not so important, then I am open to other VR headsets.
Do you think a high FOV is a much better gaming experience?
fallout 4 VR for me is better.
but if you have fallout 4 already AND a powerful computer then using vorpx with fallout 4 (and mods) can be great.
my rule is, if i can get a game running natively in VR i will always buy it.
the magic of vorpx is playing in VR games who will probably never have a vr patch from developpers, and vorpx for this is just pure awesomeness.
Pure speculation, but in case the GameUserSettings.ini is synced via Steam’s cloud saves, changes made to it while the game isn’t running potentially might be reverted when the games is started. So disabling cloud saves for the game might be worth a shot.
Apart from that: after briefly skimming through the thread I would highly suggest to use the GOG version that budwheizzah’s instructions are made for. Swapping .exe files is a recipe for disaster in any case, even more doing so between two apparently quite different game versions like in this case.
If you don’t want to pay full price: GOG sales often start shortly before a Steam sale.
Thank you dellrifter !
PURE (G3D)
Awesome off-road, quad-bike trick-racing game with huge graphics.
– Perfect 3D in all modes (immersive screen is default)
– Full VR with Headtracking , Cinema Modes recommended
– Running well on very high resolutions
– Profile available from the cloud

It happens to be half off on steam right now for the Ubisoft publisher sale. Not bad.
My concern for the meantime is if they buy exclusive rights to a beloved franchise. In this digital service war that is brewing, publishers seem to be buying up studios for this reason.
Hopefully strong modding communities can make a case, and (Google) builds in some way to upload client settings and modifications to the stream server.
Anyway, we are yet to see if the pure streaming model will even succeed. Hopefully not for many years at least :) .
