Hey ralf, i tried restoring the profile but it still didn’t fix it :/

i can’t even use the right stick to move the camera in portal 2..

Last week for some reason head tracking wouldn’t work with any game, but then today i tried portal 2 and it was working fine, but the right stick (of the ps4 controller connected using ds4windows) wouldn’t move the camera..i had to physically turn around. Although using the mouse to move the camera worked

then i tried rocket league with the same controller but this time head tracking was again not working, even though it was enabled…help?

yeah i did get past that school nightmare thing. I was in the mountains after that, it looked very unnatural.. like, head movement wasn’t 1:1 with my real life head movement and i felt the view was unnatural too. Like, it wasn’t as perfect as portal/portal 2/stanley parable

Does anyone know if outlast (the first one) is better or not?

It won’t adjust the FOV. It looks very zoomed in and weird. It’s like portal but before doing the directvr scan. And when I click on directvr scan, it only does head rotation. No FOV, no resolution, no positional tracking. Any fix for this..?

Also, is there any way to know ALL the games that have support for 3D geometry?

    Hi Ralf

Portal 2 (tested with and without vorpx)
At game resolutions higher than native 1920×1080.
I get a Windows error box-

    Warning!
    failed to create d3d device!

    It works at native 1920×1080.
Windowed mode not available at higher resolutions.
Any other workaround for vorpx other than back to old home?
What happens when old oculus home is retired?

    (i7,GTX1080,16gb)

    Thanks
    Matt
ps. I appreciate all your hard work.

Well, although the Witcher 3 virtual theater crashes after a few with the Samsung odyssey, I want to send praise out to Ralf for creating this software. I have been playing Portal 2 with the new auto VR setting detection system and other than a little flicker of the larger than usual portal gun, it plays flawlessly and is an awesome experience in full VR with the Xbox controller and some room scale movement.
Thanks for allowing me to play one of the best games ever made in this way!

DirectVR is a collection of multiple features that help to make games a better experience when you play them on the headset, it is not linked to the kind of stereo 3D that is available for a game. It can take care of resolution, FOV, settings-tweaks and head tracking. Which of these four potential DirectVR options are available varies from game to game.

Oculus Touch/Vive wands work with almost every game, that is unrelated to DirectVR. You can use the VR controllers to either emulate mouse and keyboard (freely configurable) or a gamepad.

Games that have all four potential DirectVR features are for example the ones below, a lot more have support for at least one of the potential DirectVR features.

Skyrim (original DX9 version is usually the better choice)
    Fallout 3
    Fallout New Vegas
    Fallout 4
    Portal
    Portal 2
    Far Cry 3
    Far Cry 4
    Far Cry Primal
    Left 4 Dead 2
    Mirror’s Edge
    Bioshock (DX9)
    Bioshock 2 (DX9)
    Bioshock Infinite
    Borderlands 2
    Borderlands Pre-Sequel
    Dishonored
    Deus Ex Human Revolutions
    Black Mesa Source
    Half-Life 2
    Half-Life 2 Episode 1
    Half-Life 2 Episode 2
    Aliens Colonial Marines
    Dear Esther (Source engine version)
    The Stanley Parable

Yes, I have to agree that HL2 + EP1 + EP2 are incredible in VR. In G3D, they look like they were made for VR. In a way, I think they may have been, since they do have stereoscopic capability in the settings. Tech just wasn’t there yet.

Also, check out The Portal game series. Just as incredible!!!

One thing to note for anyone with powerful systems and extra GPU power available is that if you run vorpx with the default settings as it chooses for your system, it will still run your G3D game with fluid sync enabled as default…(at least this is the case with my system). This means that G3D will run at 45fps with fluid sync=on no matter if your GPU can handled faster or not…to keep the frame rate at a stable fps. I ended up disabling fluid sync for all my older games as my system is able to provide constant 90fps everywhere (even at 2880×2160) with G3D enabled and fluid sync=off. If you can do a consistent 90fps even at a lower res, the smoothness is incredible (for those who can detect the difference)…and is well worth the try.

    Cheers!!!

Thanks a lot for the very fast and precise response!

Thanks for the disabling DirectVR idea. I’ll admit, I’ve only tried playing Portal 2 with my mouse and keyboard, so it was quite annoying/impossible to use DirectVR all that time as that involved me needing to turn my head 180 degrees (towards the back of my chair) and away from the keyboard when going through a portal.

Perhaps if I stand and use a gamepad / touch controllers, I won’t mind the glitch if I go slowly through the portals. Thanks again!

Hi, I have purchased the software and registered and got it launching portal 2 in vr. However when I open the VorpX Config it crashes without any signs of launch, I have disabled antivirus software and disabled all game overlays that could effect it.

    PC Specs:

    Intel® Core™ i5-6300HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.2GHz w/ Turbo
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5
    15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display
    32GB DDR4 at 2133MHz (2x16GB)
    1TB SSD
    Killer 1435 802.11ac 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1

    It’s considered I-think-about-it-from-time-to-time-but-so-far-didn’t-have-a-better-idea-to-tackle-it.

Until (if ever) that changes I would suggest to either go slowly through portals, which makes the glitch a lot less confusing or to temporarily disable Direct VR with ALT+B before going through a portal.

That’s mentioned on the Direct VR page in the vorpX ingame menu. Understand it as a new mean trick of GLaDOS to confuse you. 🙂

I will take another stab at that for sure since Portal 2 is such a great game in VR, but I can’t promise whether a solution will be possible.

    Hey Ralf,

Just wondering, is there any hope for this? I just got vorpX yesterday mainly for Portal 2, I’m almost fully satisfied with the results after a few hours of tinkering and research, but I have to use “DirectVR” OFF in order to avoid this confusing portal orientation glitch. I suppose it’s considered not fixable?
    Thanks a lot!

No need to import profiles from the cloud for these games. Please make a factory reset in the config app (trouble shooting page) in case you imported an outdated profile from the cloud.

WoW is a third person game, hence it opens in cinema mode, not much point in playing a third person game in full VR mode, especially one that is so interface heavy as WoW. There is a new mode that sits in between cinema mode and full VR immersion wise in this vorpX. Switch the ‘Play Style’ to ‘Immersive Screen Mode’ to try that. Basically that’s cinema mode as immersive as possible.

However, if you want to check how first person games work in full VR mode, I would recommend one of the games below, they work in full VR out of the box.

Good games to start are (in no particular order):

Skyrim (original DX9 version is usually the better choice)
    Fallout 3
    Fallout New Vegas
    Fallout 4
    Portal
    Portal 2
    Left 4 Dead 2
    Mirror’s Edge
    Bioshock (DX9)
    Bioshock 2 (DX9)
    Bioshock Infinite
    Borderlands 2
    Borderlands Pre-Sequel
    Dishonored
    Deus Ex Human Revolutions
    Black Mesa Source
    Half-Life 2
    Half-Life 2 Episode 1
    Half-Life 2 Episode 2
    Aliens Colonial Marines
    Dear Esther (Source engine version)

    Hello,
I’ve spent around 12 hours since purchasing VorpX just fiddling with the VorpX settings. This is because none of the games I want to play in VR work.

    I have tried so far:
    – Vanilla Skyrim
    – Skyrim SE (I uninstalled vanilla to see if SE would work, it did not)
    – Fallout 3
    – Fallout 4
    – Portal 2

Most of these titles should automatically open up in VR and run fairly well, providing you follow the correct instructions on how to configure. I am using Steam VR with the Vive.

However, I have followed instructions for each game, and nothing will open up in VR. I configure the profiles, then optimise them for the game I want to play, then I go to my library and open it up. But when I click ‘play’, the game will only open on my desktop, not inside my Vive.

I don’t know why this is. VorpX should convert these games into my headset, but it is not. If I am missing a step, which one is that?

I’ve spent so long trying to get games to work, somebody please tell me what I’m doing wrong here.

    Thank you.
