RalfKeymasterThe actual performance is the same in FullVR and immersive screen/cinema mode (given the same game settings/resolution). Very low framerates (<30fps) can feel more comfortable using one of the screen modes, but should still be avoided.

SmoilsParticipantGood, you should make everything for worst case scenario anyways. I did have AV mess with vorpx hooking before because I didnt put it in exclusions for one particular system, while having it everywhere else and “disabling protection” button didnt even matter for that system.
It was driving me crazy since av let vorpx hook 1st time and then sometimes rarely when it av wasnt fast enough to stop it, while blocking all other attempts unless using inject dlls, but for image saving Ive tried everything i could think of and could google for the matter, not worth going crazy about it since I dont really use environments mostly anyway. Ambient and dark void are much better.
Dec 5, 2020 at 4:30pm #198191In reply to: Jedi Fallen Order G3D Black Screen
RalfKeymaster@ Chris: Switching to G3D after launching a game with Z3D may cause glitches in games with more complex renderers since for performance reasons with Z3D some things only relevant for G3D are skipped. In games where that is a known issue (incl. Fallen Order) there should be a little warning in that regard popping up directly below the option in the menu when you switch to G3D after launching the game with Z3D.
I consider this message pretty essential for avoiding confusion. Would be great if you could let me know whether it is shown for you when you launch the game with Z3D and then switch to G3D.

RalfKeymasterJust checked this for you again (UPlay version). Can’t really suggest anything more than earlier in this thread already. Best thing to avoid the occsional black screen issue before the main menu is running the game windowed.
As far as the DirectVR scan is concerned, it should be pretty reliable in FC4, but of course the disclaimer that is shown during each scan also applies here: short version: auto scanning through a game’s memory in search for a single camera rotation/position address is a fairly complex matter and there always is a chance for failure.
If the scanner “thinks” it succeeded, but in fact didn’t, head tracking would get disabled. Worth a shot to try again from a different start position/angle. If that also doesn’t succeed, you can disable applying the menory scanned tracking on the DirectVR page of the ingame menu to go back to mouse based tracking.

OgrescarParticipantIn the game bring up the vorpx menu (DEL on your keyboard or Left Stick Click on your controller), then hit the right bumper (r1) a few times to get to the input settings. On this tab, you can override the x-box controller fully or partially, or not at all. On this tab you can also change the keys the controller is mapped to by clicking “change gamepad settings”. These keys are only used if the controller has been overridden.
Setting the keys is kind of a pain in the butt because you have to take your headset on and off, but that can be avoided by running the game in generic desktop mode and setting the keys there, before going back to the headset. Make sure you click on “okay and save” after you’ve remapped the keys.
I’d think that the mapping was wasd for movement by default, but I haven’t played the game in awhile, and oftentimes I just run a game in cinema mode with the xbox override turned off because I don’t like the keyboard prompts that display.
Nov 25, 2020 at 12:12am #198030In reply to: vorpX drivers eat CPU, but don’t attach anyway
OgrescarParticipantTo avoid the frustrations I’ve experienced in the past, I’d recommend that you pull the 2nd gpu out of the box. Disabling the gpu doesn’t always work. If removal is too much of an issue, you can try uninstalling the drivers on the second gpu and turn it into a generic vga device.
Oculus doesn’t support multi-gpu configurations, and Windows 10 and the Nvidia drivers seem to fight over whose in charge of the devices. You can try a lot of things including purging and re-installing your nvidia drivers in safe mode, but it’s easier to just pull the adapter out to see if it’s the real problem. If it’s not, then you know to look elsewhere.

sylvanParticipantgreat graphics with mod cinema; very fluid with my 1070 (on reverb: I put 3456 2180 as a resolution: very small hud but not serious):; on the other hand if it lags (problems related to keyboards or mice): you will have to add a dll (see steam); moreover if you change keyboard keys: at home the alt ctrl shift keys: don’t work, so avoid;
thanks vorpx!!!Oct 25, 2020 at 10:04am #197512In reply to: Audio device mapping
OgrescarParticipantI avoid using SteamVR whenever possible so whatever you need to do there isn’t going to bother me. Now if I could just make the Oculus runtime stop popping up a message that my headset has no audio…
Oct 23, 2020 at 6:18am #197453
OgrescarParticipantI will elaborate on my less-than-verbose reply. Warcraft III is one of the few profiles that will attach to this game, but it does not do 3D reconstruction. I don’t know why the one in the cloud doesn’t work, but it will not attach unless you have dgVoodoo is the games folder, and even then it does not do 3D reconstruction. In fact, many of the profiles will attach once dgVoodoo is in place, but I only found one that would do 3D reconstruction (until I stopped looking, that is).
So, here’s how to get Z3D (no G3D, sorry). Put the dgVooDoo dll in the game folder (don’t hex edit the executable – it doesn’t work), create a copy of the Bioshock Infinite profile, and assign it to the game. When you launch the game, vorpx will bitterly complain about the d3d9.dll in the game folder and call you bad names – ignore it. Once the game has been hooked, change the z-normal or z-adaptive strength to about .20 to .25 to avoid artifacts.
Anyway, this is what worked for me, but it was just one of many experiments. There may be better profiles or a better way – I don’t have plans of replaying the game again so haven’t looked any further.
Oct 21, 2020 at 10:45am #197422In reply to: various difficulties
RalfKeymasterFirst off, check some games from this list. Good choices while you are new to vorpX:
Also make sure to check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ in the help, which explains a few basic concepts and helps avoiding a lot of unnecessary trial and error with games that aren’t as automated as the ones in the list above.
Hooking:
If you encounter hooking issues with multiple games, there almost certainly is some conflict with another program on your PC that also hooks into games. The most likely candidate would be some invasive third party AV program you might have installed, but there are a bunch of others. More programs than one would think hook into games. The pinned trouble shooting guide on top of this sub-forum has more details on the matter.
Graphics Fidelity:
Outlast in particular has some noise filter applied to the image IIRC. You might be able to turn that off in the game options. Apart from that: for better image quality it’s useful to raise a game’s resolution. Typically 1440p looks fairly good. If performance allows, you can go even higher. You have to see from game to game what your PC can handle. In some games you can choose a preferred quality in the vorpX menu. You see a message in the top left corner of the game window whenever that is the case. Check the ‘Custom Resolutions’ section in the help to get the most out of this feature.
Gamepad:
Some games (quite a lot actually) don’t allow mouse and gamepad input at the same time. Whenever vorpX has to emulate a mouse for headtracking, you normally wouldn’t be able to use a gamepad at all in such a game. To deal with the matter vorpX comes with a built in gamepad > mouse/kb mapper that is usually activated in games that are known to not allow mouse and gamepad at the same time. You can freely configure the mapping to your liking on the input page of the vorpX menu (or play with mouse/kb of course).
Another option would be to use your VR controllers, for which vorpX povides similar mapping capabilites, with the added benefit of an ingame overlay on the rendered controllers that always shows the current mapping. so that’s more intuitive to use than an actual gamepad.
You could also configure vorpX to handle it the other way around and emulate a gamepad with head tracking in affected games, but that’s generally not recommended since rather laggy due to the heavy filtering games apply to gamepad input usually.
3D
When you start unsupported games with vorpX, it tries to automatically figure out a depth buffer for Z3D, but there is no guarantee that it actually finds a valid one, more often than not it probably won’t without some guidance. Only games with profiles are guaranteed to have 3D, be it Z3D or G3D.

steph12Participantthanks Ralf for your time and answers, i greatly appreciate :)
i just disabled positional tracking in vorpx menu to avoid having it scanned with directvr and now the issue i had is gone, rotation & fov success all the time, and default positional tracking like you said is good enough, i play seated so it’s fine now, i could still play standing but i’m a bit lazy :p
i know you worked hard countless hours on profiles and vorpx itself, and i truly appreciate all the work you are doing :)
cheers !
Oct 10, 2020 at 4:01pm #197238In reply to: F1 2019 issues
RalfKeymasterRun/start OpenTrack before starting the game, otherwise OpenTrack will reinitialze the headset runtime after vorpX. Better to let vorpX do it after OpenTrack to avoid any potential issues.
BTW: The next vorpX will come with fully automated TrackIR handling for F1 2019. Nothing to setup/configure anymore. Just launching vorpX and the game.
Oct 1, 2020 at 12:46pm #197106In reply to: Vorpx Config window disappears
RalfKeymasterI just realized that the temp folder might get deleted while the config app is running when you press the ‘Apply’ button and some change requires a vorpX restart. Only very few settings changes cause a vorpX restart (e.g. the ‘run as admin’ option) and also the folder should be recreated a nanosecond later, but it’s pretty much the only thing I can imagine on vorpX’s end.
Instead of using the same temp folder name for both the actual vorpX app and the config app I’ll use a different name for the config app in the next version, just in case. That’s better anyway as it avoids any theoretical issue like the above in the first place.
BTW: No need to press ‘Apply’ after importing profiles.

legaiaflame2ParticipantI just got Panzer Dragoon Remake to work using the Subnautica (rift) profile. And it’s definitely in 3D/VR. But, you have to turn head tracking off or the controller won’t work.
Also, apart from what the settings are at concerning the 3D/VR effect. Changing the 3D slider doesn’t change or enhance the 3D at all. It’s stuck in what it’s at.
If anyone wants to try to make a better more customizable profile here is a list of Unity games and profiles found in the VorpX cloud. So far I’ve only gotten this one to work.

RalfKeymasterPlease reset the profile to default in the config app. VorpX handles FOV automatically for this game, there is nothing you could improve by tweaking anything manually. If there is still a slight top/bottom border afterwards, then because the game doesn’t allow the FOV to be set higher that vorpX already does.
One thing that might improve things is running the game with a 4:3 resolution. In some games that can allow vorpX to set a higher FOV. For FullVR games that’s good practice anyway since it avoids rendering pixels that never show in the headset.
