Maybe first you could try playing those games in a free program like Bigscreen Beta or Virtual Desktop and see how you feel. Most third person games in vorpX are played on a similar virtual screen, but adds the stereo 3D effect that makes it look like VR.

Teleport function is not something vorpX adds to games. And because the games we are tying to play were not designed for VR, you can’t expect the same locomotion and tracking systems as native VR.

I’m not prone to motion sickness in VR so I might not qualify for your question, but I do use vorpX for all games that I play. A few of my favorite third person games being Assassin’s Creed Odyssey/Origins, Witcher 3, and RDR2.

Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and in few days the dlc, too. No other vorpx game is better optimized.

But you can also play The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Enhanced Edition, it is very good optimized, too.

    Hi all,

FarCry 6 was correctely hooked by Vorpx on version 21.3.2, but this last version doens’t seem to work anymore.

I have tried all kind of hook helpers (D3D9, D3D10/11/12, Generic), but any won’t let FarCar 6 to hook to Vorpx. The Vorpx attach menu shows up, but after a while is going to propose alternative hook solution.

Is it possible to have access to previous beta version download? Sometime it could be convenient to be able to revert back just to keep things that used to work (even if Vorpx is a beta we are still enjoying it), or simply do some behavior comparison?

Just a quick note about The Witcher 3. The DX12 version seems still not hooking, and with DX11 version Z-Depth and Z-Adaptative are still not working, and Geomoetry performance seems not really functional and very laggy.

    Thanks

Im using the HP Reverb G2 to try playing Witcher 3 in VR, but it just says “attaching to Witcher 3.exe” but still launches, and it doesnt go into VR. I’ve also attempted Tiny Tinas Wonderlands and while it does go into VR and head tracking mode, there doesn’t appear to be any 3d effect.

Also, i was wondering if there was a way to experience SBS Reshade? On the Oculus i just launched Bigscreen and then used the 3d Reshade in games to acheive the 3d effect i wanted, but the HP Reverb G2 doesnt have a native Bigscreen app? What can i do?

Ralf got us so hooked, LOL…

But seriously, great topic, and one i’m passionate about, so i just have to add my thoughts.

I’m a gamer who plays for the experience, which sometimes can be “life-changing”. Did i hear someone laugh? Bear with me for a moment (and excuse all the fighting with the English language :). I remember that in the 80s i watched “Star Wars: A New Hope” for the first time – i was a child then – and i can honestly say that it *did* change my life. It influenced my choice of profession, it contributed to my visual sensitivity and my style as an artist, and even influenced my way of thinking.

Games do similar things for me, albeit, as a grown-up, on a smaller scale. I still remember how i felt while exploring the dungeons of “Quake” in the 90s, the sense of wonder and complete detachment from real-life in “Unreal”… I dreamt multiple times, like being really there, of the assault on the Chernobyl plant in the 1st STALKER game. I still now and then think about the stories & characters of “Mass Effect” and “Dragon Age”, and i still often ponder the mankind-old questions about consciousness and self-awareness i was confronted with in SOMA. I could go on and on, but it’s getting excessive…

This is what kind of gamer i am. I don’t care about MP games or competition, combat and looting have always been a means to an end and IMO should be well balanced with story / characters / world building to remain fun. So you’d understand why the current native VR games don’t interest me. Thanks to vorpX i can enjoy “real” games with even more immersion, sense of scale, being inside the game-world etc. Oh and it’s the biggest upgrade to all those classic game experiences.

    >>>>>i often wonder how anyone can even barely “enjoy” a game on such a small 31-inch screen.<<<<<

I still play flat from time to time, when the friction of current VR tech starts to annoy me too much, but then again i have an 38″ curved ultrawide monitor with DIY ambilight (got the idea from vorpX ambient background in immersive screen!). But it’s still inferior to what vorpX offers and i always come back to strapping a brick to my face.

    >>>>>we are getting an overload with great games and i understand that if one ain´t “careful”, you´re getting too much of your beloved hobby and lose some joy and interest in it.<<<<<

This is a point that i’ve always been worried about since my teen years, so i’ve made a habit to always making sure that the things i “consume” (movies, games, books etc) are well chosen and only the best of the best. I’m never gonna play a samurai game because it’s the only samurai game in existence on PC – i’m gonna wait until some studio releases an excellent GOTY level samurai game and then i’m gonna play it. :)

Oh, and i refuse to play multiple games at the same time. I need to immerse myself fully. If a game doesn’t “catch” me after a couple of hours, i uninstall. And maybe re-try years later. But i do careful research and this doesn’t happen often.

Gotta get back to work, but i’m looking forward to my adventure in Undvik tonight. vorpX in Reverb G2 @2560×1440 Immersive Screen – i couldn’t imagine a better way to play “The Witcher 3”, even though i sometimes wish for a higher resolution and less screen door effect… It’s never enough, right? :)

In the last of us i have no flow and i never reached the second half of the game because of that. In general i like Stealth gameplay with flow, and no run and gun shooter. And Storys like Mafia 1+2, Red Dead Redemption, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, that are also fantastic adult storys but with a bunch of emotions and not only one of depressive and brutality. I completed Days Gone which has a melancholic atmosphere too, but the mix of the state of the art gameplay with flow and emotions that are melancholic and not depressive is in my opinion a better way to have a good time and not to cry.

RE4 remake, I gave RE 8 a chance because of the amazing graphics, but I do not like Horror Games. Elden Ring for example is without it’s difficult level a crap game. On the other hand, Syberia: World Before and Stray or also Hogwarts are quality games, but i do not like those games, too.

In 2022/2023 i also completed Mafia 2, Hitman Absolution and Deus Ex Human Revolution.

I will give Uncharted 4 in VR a new chance, but i completed it in 2016 before.
I installed some nude Mods for a few NPCs to make it a little bit more interesting.

Also Tomb Raider 2013 looks great in G3D with a nude Mod, and has a good story and good gameplay.

I know that it is sad, that i have to install nude mods to have fun with uncompleted older games, but the last 4 years were financial successful for the gaming industries, but they is only a small list of Blockbuster which have amazing gameplay, with an amazing story in combination with next gen graphics.

I’ve already deep-dived this pretty extensively yesterday and overall it’s very impressive.

A quick note for Pimax users (and possibly others; I no longer have any non-Pimax HMDs to try) – I’ve found that I have to change the HMD Sync methods depending on how I am using vorpX and/or between different games. For example, Cyberpunk and general gaming appears to like either Slow/Multithread on, or Fast/Multithread on. vorpX Desktop itself likes Fast/Multithread ON. However, playing a non-supported game on the virtual screen (so, no direct vorpX hook) wants the “Default” – which I believe is Fast/Multithread off – So I have to run vorpX Desktop one way, and then switch that Sync mode once I’m in-game). Anyway, don’t assume that the sync mode that works best in one case will apply universally.

Performance in Cyberpunk in particular is definitely slightly up. Mostly I’m at 45/90 now at considerable quality with RT, but a handful of scenes still dip. Where I was getting 37ish I’m now seeing more like 41/42.

Non-hooked games running through vorpX Desktop Theater Mode (whatever you want to call it) do NOT respect vsync. I was able to resolve this by implementing manual framerate limits (either in-game if supported or through the Nvidia control panel.) Hence I now have a reliable Witcher 3 DX12 with mods running at 45/90. Note that both the vorpX and FPS VR are reporting the Sync rate, not the actual rate at which the game is running in this case. I noticed that my GPU was being nailed at about 98% usage under all scenarios and I was getting a lot of stuttering. Turned on an in-game FPS counter and found that titles were running as many frames as they could all the time (no vsync) and stuttering whenever they exceeded the HMD refresh. Not a huge deal as manual limits are easy to impose, but something users might need to know. Despite those few minor issues, the experience is MUCH better than it used to be as the refresh is not tied to my physical monitor – so I no longer have to hit 60 or limit to 30 in order to get non-stuttering play. So that part seems to be working exactly as Ralf intended.

So overall a VERY positive experience with this new beta.

Can’t wait to see those gestures added to more games. I’ve never really found a title that worked well enough for me to adapt to it using my Index controllers instead of my gamepad (even really well supported titles like FO3). I would love to be able to lift my arm for the pip-boy, etc. etc.

Hey Ralf, the Witcher 3 Next-Gen, are we gonna get a proper g3d version soon?
I wish we could at least use the 1.3.1/1.3.2 versions of the game with 23.1.0 BETA, the g3d was working good on those versions, the immersion of g3d made a big difference

I notice that there’s a significant performance boost in many of my games with this new beta.
now I can play at 2560×1440 with g3d, before that I had to drop to 1080p or use Z3d for a smooth experience.

Let me know if Im doing something wrong or maybe it would be nice if we can use the old Witcher3 profile with the 23.1.0 BETA for the performance boost. thanks.

I’m using my new Reverb G2 rev2 to play The Witcher 3 currently. It’s an excellent HMD, highly recommended for vorpX. But very expensive for a product that will get discontinued soon – i paid 700€ here in Germany (even though it’s discounted to half of that in most other parts of the world) – and it just went to 750€ at BestWare, LOL… :)

The problem with DX12 in Witcher 3 is that it’s not really DX12. Instead they use a DX11 > 12 wrapper that (unsurprisingly) clashes with vorpX. On top of that they implemented some RTX stuff. I’m 99% certain the whole thing is an RTX marketing stunt. They – almost certainly intentionally – made the raster shadows almost invisible and removed the best possible ambient occlusion method to make RTX stand out visually. Would be REALLY hard to spot any difference between the original version and RTX otherwise. I’m still surprised the internet wasn’t on fire.

@Ralf The mod you are looking for is Gervant First Person and it is absolutely brilliant. Full control over when you are in 1st v.s. 3rd person by context. Witcher 3 has animation issues with first person combat unless you run something that greatly slow game-time, for example, so if you prefer you can simply have GFP switch to 3rd person for combat. It has FOV controls, animation controls, a VR mode that hides your body if you prefer when in 1st person. It’s a very long list of features and all of them work pretty darn well.

IMHO you should start with that mod as a baseline for anything you do that’s Witcher 3 + vorpX related because that mod has already done a LOT of the work that you would otherwise need to do. I’ll certainly never play Witcher 3 without it (well, unless you implemented an entire set of similar features through vorpX, but that sounds like a huge amount of work.)

Unfortunately Witcher 3 (DX12 mode) is not currently supported through vorpX so I’m not able to say how well GFP plays with vorpX. Hoping an future vorpX release will work.

Found another game in my library (trine 2) that works with vorpx. That one works. So apparently its something specific to witcher 3
