What answer do you expect on the official vorpX support forum? You don’t loose the HUD in any game, but in games where vorpX can’t scale the HUD, you will need to use vorpX’s EdgePeek function to look at parts of the HUD in screen corners. EdgePeek let’s you briefly zoom out and back by clicking the mousewheel.

The games you are interested in run as follows feature wise (G3D means “true” 3D with two cameras, Z3D means Z-Buffer 3D, which doesn’ look as good, but is a lot faster).

    1. Fallout 4: G3D/Z3D, positional tracking, FOV adjustable ingame, scalable HUD, as close it gets to a native game with injected VR.
    2. Alien Isolation: G3D/Z3D, positional tracking, FOV adjustable via ini tweak
    3. GTA V: Z3D, FOV adjustable via external tool (Flawless Widescreen)
    4. Doom: not supported, but runs in unsupported mode (2D only), FOV adjustable ingame.

And BTW: don’t believe everything you see on YouTube. I am aware of at least one recent vorpX video there where the main complaint of the “reviewer” that he talks about most of the time (no 3d) is plain and simple not true. Kind of unbelievable the whole thing. Modern times, I guess…

P.s. the “ht as gamepad ” option is only available if you set controller override to NO . There is no need to override because the headtracking seems to add another right stick (your neck). Which makes the controller responsible for all the control input, so no mouse/gamepad conflict.

My settings so far with this option enabled:

    Input settings tab:

    Deadzone correction 21
    x sensitivity 40
    y sensitivity 50

Gamepad settings tab (don’t know if this influences anything, but to be sure)

    Left stick 0.15
    Left stick 0.15
    Deadzone left stick 0.01
    Yright stick 0.15
    X right stick 0.15
    Deaedzone righst stick 0.01

Alien isolation in game setting controller sensitivity to 5 clicks from left.

My resolution is 1920×1440 (manually added to engine_settings.xml)

It’s still not perfect, but works great while walking/looking and does eliminate all bending. You could turn the deadzones correction up to 22 or 23 but after that is starts to move on it’s own. (Lowering will make the screen move with you when turning your head very slow, as if there is no headtracking).

Maybe it’s a good starting point that can be finetuned by an vorpx expert.

    1) Set field of view to 100. Do this by editing ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML file in notepad.
You will probably find the file in this directory.
    D:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Alien Isolation\DATA
But you may have installed it to a different drive.

Then add in this line to the file.
    <Quality name=”100″ precedence=”8″ float=”100.0″/>

You should place the line, under this heading, which you will find in the file.
    -<Setting name=”Field Of View”>

    Save the file!

    2) Run VorpX
    3) Run Alien Isolation
    4) Go to options > Video and set resolution to 1280×1024, and set field of view to the new 100 option.
    5) Press “del” and in the VorpX settings set the 3d mode to Z-adaptive. This is because Geometry 3d has (for me at least) different shadows and lighting in each eye – which look terrible!
    6) Play the game! (and hope it doesn’t crash!)

That’s as far as I’ve got!

Thanks that works well here. Beside the menu, computer mails and cut scenes as I can´t see the entire screen. Is there a hotkey to virtual cinema mode? That would help a lot

I’m on my second play through for Alien Isolation, and I really wanted to just relax and explore the game.
I came across a mod on the Steam Forums for removing the Alien.
I haven’t tried it yet, but it seems to work judging by the comments.

I can’t be the only one with this issue? This is my second time with the dk2 on entirely different hardware.

Dark areas are murky, posterized and entirely devoid of shades/details.
I’m on the latest Oc runtime/home and I’m booting alien isolation and other games via steam. This issue is visible in every game and it’s definitely due to the dk2 hardware not handling the rgb range correctly.

I need some way to set the dk2 to the proper rgb range but I don’t know how to access it as a display in the nvidia control panel.

    Hi,

I got vorpX working with e.g. Alien Isolation so it normally works but I don’t get Dreamfall Chapters to work with the Oculus CV1. I tried to start vorpX and / or the game as Admin but it only starts on the Desktop. Any idea what I could do?

    Thanks and cheers,

    Pierre

i’ve tried ghosts and deadspace 2 using nvidia DSR 4x, so basically 3840*2160..
    It looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !!!
this is how it should be, i have 45 fps nearly constant at max settings on both games, i don’t expect to be able to do it on newer games but on this 2 it looks perfect!
At least on newer games i prefer much more lowering details but DSR x4 is a must to enjoy this vorpx without minecraft effect.
Unfortunately it’s impossible to use DSR on custom resolutions, so for newer games that i’m going to test i’ll check first for windowed mode then if it’s not possible to set higher res i’ll go for DSR.
I’ve zoomed out a bit the screen in order to use all the available pixels as it’s a 16:9 res (something around 70%, i still cover the vive fully).
Dead space is in geometry 3d but there are some minor artifacts and also as it’s not a first person view game is not the best on the vr, but the quality is now how i wanted it to be.
Searching for a geometry 3d fps now.. any suggestion that is NOT on this list? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xQom_2-Hgno-zO_wQtjarapZEyW_1XCL5LB8TX8v7zc/edit?pli=1#gid=0
Rendering issues on alien isolation are now fixed ? would be great on vr

This seems to be a common problem with 3D in some games that render shadows a certain way, as it also occurs with Nvidia 3D Vision. It is annoying and apparently avoidable.

This guy knows how to fix the problem, since his fixes for 3D Vision preserve shadows but correct their placement, including for Alien Isolation

Water reflections are I think still incorrect.

In any case, maybe someone from Vorpx can collaborate with Helix to find solutions to these problems for Rift

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about: https://support.apple.com/library/APPLE/APPLECARE_ALLGEOS/Product_Help/en_US/PUBLIC_USERS/133281/S0455_Posterize.png

Although in this case it only effects the darkest shades on screen. It’s particularly jarring in Alien Isolation, and makes the black smear that much more evident.

Do you have this Problem in every Game? I don’t. But in Alien Isolation and rfactor2.

I should add this does seem to be with all vorpX games, not just alien isolation.

I’m trying to run Alien Isolation on Windows 10 with a CV1 on Oculus v1.4 and I receive a popup saying “VorpX could not initialize your Oculus Rift. It Reported:”. I’ve tried following several threads and your basic troubleshooting thread to no avail. Any ideas?
