Short update: an optimizer profile for Alien Isolation will be available in the next vorpX version.

There isn’t an Optimizer entry for Alien Isolation, sorry.

Game profiles and the Optimizer are two different things. While profiles store the settings that vorpX uses while running, the Optimizer changes the actual .ini/registry etc. setting of a game. If there is an Optimizer entry for a game, you need to apply that additionally to importing/loading a profile.

    Is this for everyone?

Also on a more general question. Once I import a game setting, it should already optimize the game according to that specific profile or do I have to set that profile through selecting the game in Optimize Game Settings.

    If that’s the case how can I use a user’s Alien:Isolation profile?

    Hello I have an :

Intel core i7-6700K 4ghz with 16GB of ram and a video card that is a “titan X (Pascal)”

I tried to use vorpx to play on the vive headset that I have

    Alien – Isolation

    and

    Dead Space 3

For both games I get this message on my vive screen:

    Low Performance (29 FPS)

and also, the whole game does not good at all…everything looks off despite I used the pre setting for Alien Isolation as suggested by vorpx

    What is going on?

I find it impossible to have “low performance” when I have the best video card on the market and I think a decent PC….

So I’m just wondering if this is just me or if anyone else notices this. Is it normal for games to appear generally washed out or too bright?

I don’t think it really bothered me at first cause I was just thrilled to have any games working in VR at all, but maybe now I’m just getting picky, hah.

Games like skyrim, alien isolation, or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. seem to have a lower contrast or something, especially Skyrim seems pretty washed out. Call of Pripyat seems to have this problem the least, but even adjusting gamma sliders doesn’t seem to make any difference as if it’s just disabled.
I was thinking that maybe the darkness levels in games just ‘appears’ brighter since theres no ambient light hitting the “screen” (as you are locked into a headset) or maybe because you’re so much closer to all the detail or something so everything is just more visible.

Anybody know any tricks to maybe get the darks to look more dark?

I totally agree! Helixmod + VorpX MUST be together! Alien Isolation is not playable because of shadows and lights being rendered wrong in geometry 3d mode (the only mode that shows correct 3d perspective in VorpX).

    Dear developer please hear us!!

    Thank you!

Regarding lights and shadows.. I’ve played Alien Isolation with Nvidia 3Dvision. This game is not officially supported by Nvidia 3Dvision and have same problems with lights and shadows. But there is one tweak to fix it (HelixModAlien Isolation tweak). It makws Vorpx + HTC Vive “as is”..
Any thoughts? Also there are lots of fixes for many games from HelixMod including Borderlands 2… this game also has some shadow problems with VorpX…

These aren’t all FPS games, but are excellent picks:

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is AWESOME in VR if you’re into mystery adventures
Elite Dangerous if you like space exploration games
The Elder Scrolls Series – primarily Skyrim.
    Fallout 4
    The Batman Arkham Series
    Metro 2033
Call of Duty Black Ops 1-3, Battlefield 3-4 and even Hardline, Any Splinter Cell or Crysis game
    Alien Isolation
    Quake I-III
    Half Life 2
    Portal
The Witcher 1 and 2 if you like extended campaign games that will suck all your time, not sure if Witcher III is manageable at acceptable graphics levels
    Bioshock: Infinite
    Borderlands
    GTA IV and V
and to tickle your fear of heights check out Mirror’s Edge

Essentially if your computer can run it, and it’s built on a major game engine like Unreal, Unity, and quite a few others – it’ll play in VorpX. The less popular it is the more tweaking you’ll have to do though because it won’t have been done already by someone else. Once you get used to the Vorpx in game menu you’ll be able to get games to run. Whether you get a true stereoscopic experience depends on how the game was coded though.

I’m sure that’s clear as mud now.. lol. But hopefully there are a couple of games on there you can check out that are well established as compatible.

    @Markocova

As I read on one russian site, Deepoon Assistant 1.5.1.10 install old Oculus drivers (of 0.8 SDK) as in-pack part which not allow to play CV1 games. Recomendation is installing 1.3.2.10 (I guess there are no any OR drivers included, so no conflicts).

Let me translate installing step-by-step guide from there for you and other deepoon owners. That way completly works for me.

It shoud works on all windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10

    0) I recommend to uninstall deepoon, oculus software (also runtime) and they drivers from device manager. Maybe it’s good to clean Windows Registry using tool like ccleaner. It is not from guide, but it clear I think.

    1) Install last Runtime with Oculus Home.
    Web istaller https://www3.oculus.com/en-us/setup/
Skip all setup procedures, but make sure that OR software and drivers is up to date. Also you need to make OR account. Just register. Use PIN 1234, for example.
    2) When installing process is done, go to Device Manager. You should see Rift DK2 Senson with warning icon. Delete this one WITH DRIVER! Deepoon haven’t positional sensor as original DK2.
    3) Plug Deepoon device to yout PC. (HTMI + USB)
    4) Now install Deepoon Assistant 1.3.2.10 . It’s very important! Do not install last Deepoon Assistant 1.5.1.10 because it’s provide build-in old DK2 drivers from 0.8 Runtime which not allow to play CV1 games.
    Deepoon Assistant 1.3.2.10: http://static.vrbig.com/deepoon_assistant/DPNAssistant_V1.3.2.10.rar

    5) Reboot your PC
    6) Run Oculus Home, make sure Deepoon light indicator is blue (not red). Oculus Home message you that DK2 unsupported – do not worry, it’s ok. Just close blue message block. In Deepoon you can see a warning about DK2. Just press A button on your gamepad.
    7) Author also recommend to install LibOVRWrapper 1.2. https://github.com/kalavaras/LibOVRWrapper/releases/download/v1.2/LibOVRWrapper-1.2.zip (run bat file as administrator)
That Wrapper allow to play OR games uses old 0.6+ runtimes.

    8) And yes, don’t forget allow to running games from unknown sourses. (Check Oculus Home settings: Settings/General/Unknown Sources )

    Done.

After that guide I tryed to start “Start vorpX”, and then “vorpX Desktop Viewer” (just test) and they work. Then I tryed to play Alien Isolation, seems all are OK.

    Goodluck!

    Hi all,

Got my oculus yesterday, I’m a fully grown man with kids and a wife, but I was like a child when I received it :) anyway, I bought a few bits n bobs, (virtual desktop) and a few games, slender man, which is on steam..

Couldn’t get it to go into VR mode, so I got this driver for £47 I thought it was a bit steep but I thought hey if it works then I’m all over it, money well spent.

Now when i ran the game, the screen just isn’t right, it’s too big and the head tracking doesn’t work at all.

How can I get this to run? I appreciate that this is a mental question as there are a tonne of settings, but just generally? What do you do to get a game to work? What’s the process?

I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting something to at least kind of work out of the box when you’ve just paid near 50 quid for it.

    Any guides? Or pointers please?

I know I sound a bit off but I’d just like to play some of my other games, like slenderman and alien isolation, the vast majority of the tutorials are for the dk2 and not the Cv, apparently they operate differently.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers :(

I tried Alien isolation, showed just for a glimpse 40fps and nothing else, tried to restart it three times but nothing is shown in htc vive, in monitor is just a black screen which blocks anything, even with ctrl+alt+supr i cannot stop any process, the only way is closing session or restarting windows.

Hello there, mind sharing your profile for alien isolation? I tried to get it working with the vorpx profile and community profiles but it never looked right to me…and 3D Geometry was bonkers as well with the shadow issue on only one screen.

Also, which in-game settings did you set?

I’ve managed to get the following games working:

    Alien Isolation
    GTA V

I figured out ALT + SPACE snaps the camera to the front and centre. So the camera isn’t off to my side now.

Both games I no longer see the top and bottom frame anymore, so that’s sorted.

I got Alien Isolation working. Is there a way to fix a couple of little things listed below?

    – I feel like I’m floating a bit though.
    – Also at top and bottom I have the outline grey areas.
    – The HUD on the far left or the menus on the loading screen, it’s off the edge.
