I updated my nvidia drivers to the latest version and now the virtual desktop doesn’t crash as soon as I open the config menu, however it crashes after switching the background setting from lounge to ambient etc.. The mouse also still disapears when I start the menu and I need to navigate using the keys

There is also no errors in the log but the crash is the same (freezes + tunnel vision + hour glass in bottom right)

Skyrim like many games has a built in console that can be used to type in commands. To open it use the [~] key (on an US keyboard). Caveat: on an international keyboard the key may be located elsewhere, usually it’s the one above TAB or one of the keys with localized special characters. Typing in the fov command will zoom out the camera.

You can read this article to learn what an ingame console is in general and what you can do with it.

Vive controller support will be added with the next vorpX update.

Sorry about the confusion, the first line of the instruction should read:

“This can be run in stereoscopic mode in Vorpx Desktop Viewer.”

The purpose of the instruction is to be able to play Rise of the Tombraider in Vorpx Desktop viewer in stereoscopic 3d.

It doesn’t run for me in Steam Desktop Theater. So that’s why you can disable that in the Steam settings, and also disable Steam overlay to avoid conflict with the Vorpx Desktop Viewer hot keys.

You need to exclude ROTTR.exe in Configure Vorpx to stop it from trying to do 3d reconstruction on the game. If it does that it won’t show the option for side-by-side viewing in the Vorpx Desktop Viewer.

    Hey Ralf,
Been using Vorpx a long time. Love it. But haven’t played in a few weeks, and when I started it up, it updated. Your site says not updates. Not sure what it was. But anyways, ctrl-space no longer works to recenter the headset. Am I missing something? Its still set up in the hotkeys.

Hi, I cant get the in-game menu or hot keys to appear while in gw2, everything else seems to work. The camera follows my head tilt, I can edge peek, show in-game fps. Ive disabled anti virus and tried running as admin, is it simply a game compatibility issue? Please help and thank you!

Thanks… I disconnected a joystick, and the X box controller. It now is stable. Still need to configure something for movement. I will get to that.

2 more questions if you don’t mind. The best frame rate I am seeing is about 40fps. Seems fairly smooth, could be better. This is using Z-normal. Detail settings such don’t seem to have much effect, so they are all set to highest. Does this seem about right?

Last question. I see black bars on top and bottom of the Rift. I looked through all the settings and hot keys, but am not finding a way to adjust the screen size either in vertical or horiz. It looks like the screen is processing well past the side edges, but not enough on the top or bottom.

Hi, I just wanted to give a head up that Pinnacle Game Profiler is 70% off right now. It’s a way better option than Vorpx’s gamepad emulation. And it has with a lot of features that can really enhance the controller experience. Like the option to hold down a button down to have a completely different set of keys mapped to the controller for weapon shortcuts and what ever you need. https://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/

    Hey there,

after working on this problem for over three hours I finally gave up. How the hell can you map keys in Skyrim? I’ve got an XBOX One Wireless Controller, latest drivers installed and it is behaving strange in Skyrim.

For instance: the attack is mapped to three buttons, jumping to two buttons. So I open the Vorpx menue and try to rebind the keys in the gamepad settings, but it is not working!

I click on “A” for example and the assigned letter disappears, looks good, right? Vorpx is waiting for a key now, so I press something… anything. However, no matter what I press Vorpx is not taking the key I press and instead remains inactive, this includes keyboard and gamepad keys. Only clicking with the mouse binds that mouse click to the assigned field.

I tried disabling the Xbox Gamepad in Skyrim itself, tried all the options with Vorpx. Nothing solves this problem. Most of the time the whole program just “crashes” (I can’t even close the ingame menue anymore) and I can only close it with the task manager.

Please! Offer me some help because I really want to play this with my Gamepad.

    Thanks in advance.

I tried Skyrim in VorpX today and I may be the only one with this problem, but how do you turn around?

I feel sick if I use my mouse AND VR headtracking so I tried to play without touching my mouse (remapped mouse clicks to left and right arrow keys), but then I find myself stretching my neck in weird positions while pressing various combinations of wasd just to get my character to turn around.

Is there a better way to do this?

The left stick is configured to simulate WASD keys when using the controller emulation.

You can change button mappings on the gampad page of the ingame menu. To do that press the “Button Mappings” button, which will extend the page and show the according options.

There will be no dedicated new features regarding the gamepad emulation, but the new Direct VR feature will allow native gamepad use for more games that do not allow mouse and gamepad to be used together. This won’t apply to all those games though, only to those with Direct VR support.

The easiest general way to deal with games that do not allow mouse and gamepad to be used together besides using the gamepad emulation is playing the game in question with mouse and keyboard.

If you want to use an external tool like joy2key, you may have to disable the gamepad in the game’s options menu.

Although you guys suggest vorpX is a seated experience; I have a little suggestion that might make Alien Isolation ( and all games where ege peek is regularly needed) a better experience, and allow vorpX to be used as a standing experience in First Person View games, using your body’s orientation to look, and one joystick to move.

So here is how I tried to experience Alien Isolation.

    – Hardware : VIVE + old Xbox controller (via xbcd)

    – I have no native xbox controller support so I use joy2key to map the keyboard controls to my controller.

    – Since AI is a stealth game more than a running game where necessary strafe could possibly cause sickness, I can play in the standing position and turn my body left and right depending on where I want to look and walk to. Besides it gives a much more natural feeling to the game versus sitting on a chair.
    – Then I use the left thumbstick to walk in the direction I am facing.
    – So far so good, the motion is natural and everything, but…

As you are well aware, the Motion Tracker is an essential kit which is not in view of the player and Edge Peek must be used. The disadvantage of Edge Peek is that it resets the camera position relative to the center of your screen, not to the center of where you were looking at.

It’s a bit hard to explain but here goes:

    – At the start of the game I am facing North
    – There is a corridor to the East and one to the West.
    – I want to see if there is an alien in either corridor.
    – Facing the east corridor (by turning my body in that direction) I trigger edge peek mode which faces me back automatically to North instead of keeping focus on the East.
    – Can we have a setting so we can switch this behavior off ?

When using a program like xpadder or Joy2Key one can bind all these keys on the keyboard to one controller button.

So I tried to map 4 funtions to following 4 buttons to one controller button

    – Motion tracker on
    – Edge Peek mode on
    – center positional headtracking (makes the edge peek cinema screen follow your orientation)
    – center headtracking (gamepad) – on/off does not seem to solve the problem.

I have also set xbox controller override to partial (x-axis only)

Am I missing something here ? please advise.

    Thank you

I have a particular situation where I use Steam as the shell instead of Windows for a more console experience. I have VorpX as a shortcut in Steam but it’s an issue to exit. Since I don’t have quick access to the start bar without running explorer, I wanted to know how I could make a batch file to exit vorpX where I could create a shortcut for it instead?
I just don’t know how to use commands for batch files but am sure it can be done, anyone know?

Or is there any other known method to shut down VorpX via hotkeys?

Great. Yes auto-switching sounds like a disaster waiting to happen especially with high frequency switching near the critical point (need like a digital PID regulator or something). Switching rapidly from Z3D to G3D would probably make you sick and dizzy since they look pretty different.

Anyway a simple key shortcut gives the user control and is a very simple concept and seems like a dead easy thing to implement. Could you make the specific key customize-able? That way anyone can just chose any key they please to avoid conflict. Of course you can always shift around your skyrim keys too in the options.

Just another great reason to look forward to the next exciting VorpX update :D
