RalfKeymasterIt’s considered I-think-about-it-from-time-to-time-but-so-far-didn’t-have-a-better-idea-to-tackle-it.
Until (if ever) that changes I would suggest to either go slowly through portals, which makes the glitch a lot less confusing or to temporarily disable Direct VR with ALT+B before going through a portal.
RalfKeymasterFirst please make sure that there is a profile for the game. You can check that on the “Local Profiles” page of the vorpX config app. If there is no profile for the game, there is no guarantee that vorpX can hook into it.
If there is a profile for the game:
There might be an injection conflict with some other program on your PC. Many programs also hook into games and can cause such an issue. Not all of them are obvious.
Hottest candidates are: virus scanners, any sort of CPU/GPU utilities, game video recording/streaming software, chat programs and generally everything that can show notifictations in games.
Best way to trouble shoot this is to disable/uninstall programs running in the background.
RalfKeymasterThat should not happen anymore with 17.3.1 which was released a few days ago. However, you usually do not have to import official profiles (author [vorpX]) from the cloud, those are already available in your local profile database.
Sometimes there may be updated profiles, but most of the time the official profiles in the cloud are exactly the same as the ones in your local profile database.
Cloud profiles ususally are only required for importing custom profiles/settings from other users.
RalfKeymasterIn that case I would like to take a look at your log files. With “1080p” selected in vorpX the auto-resolution for Fallout 4 normally should be 1442×1080.
Not sure how that would fail, but one never knows. Please create a trouble shoot data archive in the config app after launching Fallout 4 and send that to support |at| vorpx com. It contains the log file that I’d like to check.
RalfKeymasterThe answer above explains how to disable the auto resolution feature if you really want to. There is no reason to do that though. Just let vorpX do it. Judging from your description everything worked perfectly fine.
Just select a lower “Resolution Quality” in the vorpX menu. The 1680p you apparently selected is too high for Fallout 4.
Using a normal a widescreen res in the Fallout launcher will waste precious GPU power for nothing.
RalfKeymasterI would highly advise against setting the resolution manually when vorpX can do it. vorpX chooses a 4:3 res for the game on purpose. It always selects best possible aspect ratio for a game that has auto resolution support. Widescreen resolutions are a waste of processing power and should be avoided whenever possible for vorpX.
You probably should select a lower resolution quality in the vorpX menu though. 1680p is borderline even for a 1080ti in Fallout4, 1280p or 1140p are the better choices.
If you still want to disable the vorpX auto resolution for some reason, you can do that either per game in the vorpX menu (Direct VR page) or globally in the config app. There is no reason to do that though, on the contrary. vorpX is aware which resolutions work with a game and which do not and selects the best possible one.
RalfKeymasterThe automatic audio switching can sometimes fail if a game initializes audio before vorpX can hook. If that is the case, disable “Use built-in audio” in the vorpX config app and change the default audio device manually in Windows.
If you are using the Rift Core 2.0 beta, you should also consider going back to the stable 1.2 build by signing out of the beta channel in Oculus Home. The beta introduces additional audio related glitches, which will hopefully get straightened out before Oculus releases Core 2.0 officially.
RalfKeymasterI’ll add an option to disable some less important messages in the next vorpX version. Probably not as an UI option, but you will be able to do it manually in an ini file.
Some sort of feedback is highly important though, especially for things like disabling/enabling Direct VR as the effect of that might not be immediately apparent. So I would highly advise against actually using that option when it becomes available. You’ll loose more than you win, trust me.
BTW: the pos tracking hint you wanted to disable earlier can be disabled in your C:\ProgramData\Animation Labs\vorpX\vorpX.ini by setting “bShowPosTrackingNotification” to “False”
RalfKeymaster1. If you added the custom resolutions for Direct VR (vorpX help or this post), the highest 4:3 resolution is 2240×1680.
2. Not 100% sure currently, per default you can probably switch wapons with left grip button (map shift) + right thumb pad. If not, you can map that to anything you prefer in the vorpX menu.
3. Nothing besides making sure that “Hyper Threading” is enabled in the BIOS (almost certainly that is the case unless you disabled it).
RalfKeymasterProvided vorpX could adjust the settings automatically, the FOV is correct. You can check whether that is the case by navigating to your Fear install folder.
There should be a file named autoexec.cfg in the install folder and the FEAR/FEARXP sub folders, containing FovY and FovYWidescreen values (both ~96).
If that is the case, the FOV is correct. If not, please make sure that you have write access to the Fear install folder (that might not be the case if the game is installed in C:\Program Files(x86) for example).
RalfKeymasterPlease make sure that the name line looks exactly as shown in the key e-mail.
It has to contain your name followed by the e-mail address in parantheses, exactly as shown in the mail.
Use COPY AND PASTE to avoid typos.
If that does not solve your issue (unlikely), please send us a screenshot of the license dialog after you pasted in the data.
RalfKeymasterProbably some file still being in use that makes the update fail. Most likely rebooting your PC will help.
If not, do an uninstall/reinstall. Make sure to keep the registration info when you are asked about that during the uninstall, otherwise you would have to re-enter the key.
RalfKeymasterIn many games vorpX can auto adjust the resolution. For games with Direct VR auto resolution support vorpX is aware what resolutions work with a game and selects the best possible one depending on a quality preset you select.
To take full advantage of this feature for as many games as possible:
- Add the resolutions listed in the “Custom Resolutions” section of the vorpX help to your display driver. How to do that is explained there.
- Select a preferred resolution quality in the “Direct VR” page of the vorpX menu, click “OK & Save”, restart the game.
For games without auto resolution support 1600×1200 and 1920×1440 are good choices.
BTW: When you raise the resolution, keep an eye on performance (ALT+F), 45fps should be maintained.
If you change the “Play Style” to “Full VR” there won’t be any borders. However, to fully work in this mode the camera field of view has to perfectly fit the headset FOV. So unless there is a profile that does that for a game, you would have to do it manually. The Essential Hints Guide in the help has more details on that. For new users I would highly recommend using “Immersive Screen Mode” instead in such cases as it works without perfect FOV.
RalfKeymasterThe “Immersive Screen Mode” UI is kept to a minimum on purpose, but you can switch to cinema mode and set that up almost exactly as “Immersive Screen Mode” by moving the screen closer and selecting the background scene you prefer.
RalfKeymasterYou can exclude programs from vorpX in the config app.
The easiest way to do this:
1. Start the program that vorpX is not supposed to hook.
2. Open the vorpX config app.
3. Go to the “Excluded Programs” page
4. Click the “Add Process” button and select the program you want to exclude. -
