How is this application called? No promises, but I will look into it. Just need to know what to look for.

The profile was originally done with the Steam version. Maybe it was patched in the meantime, while the demo was not. Patches sometimes can break 3D profiles. I’ll check that for the next regular vorpX update.

Please reinstall vorpX using your web installer. Since today (15/11/30) this will install a 0.91 hotfix that re-enables DK1 support.

Make sure to install the Oculus runtime 0.8 for this (0.6 and 0.7 *may* also work).

The latest vorpX (0.91) requires the runtime 0.7 or 0.8. For Windows 10 0.8 is recommended.

Elder Scrolls Online must use DirectX 9 instead of DX11 for rendering or you get the error you see. Normally the vorpX game Optimizer can apply the necessary tweak (vorpX Config app).

If that fails for some reason, you have to do it manually by editing an ini file. Googling for Elder Scrolls Online DX9 will yield a few short tutorials.

Using a custom 8:9 or 1:1 resolution like described above is far superior as 1. no additional downsampling is involved, 2. it also solves FOV issues in many cases, and 3. it avoids rendering overhead, effectively enhancing performance.

I have tried if that counts. Extensively…

No Stereo 3D though and probably won’t happen anytime soon. Only older OpenGL games which use the so called fixed function pipeline have Stereo 3D.

Nothing is set in stone for the future, but I’m not sure whether the handfull of popular games that use OpenGL justify the time required to implement Stereo 3D for newer, shader based titles, which would be considerably more complex.

Although the exact opposite of a title well suited for VR the game still is really great in virtual cinema mode. It’s one of those games that are able to literally suck you in just through their atmosphere. That combined with the almost view filling screen in virtual cinema provides a level of immersion that, although very different from real VR, is hard to match.

I may be a tiny little bit biased ;), but even with the Homeworld fanboy glasses taken off I would consider this at least worth trying if you like strategy games (and most importantly marveling at fighting spaceships in a beautifully designed universe).

That sounds like the typical black flicker that can sometimes happen if the GPU is overloaded. Not just with vorpX, but generally with the Rift.

First make sure that you have the latest graphics driver and runtime 0.8 installed. In case of nVidia older dirvers showed this behaviour more often than newer ones.

If you still experience this afterwards, try to reduce the workload on the GPU by lowering graphics options in your game or/and lowering the resolution you play the game with. A few vorpX settings you can adjust to reduce the workload are listed in the performance optimization guide in the vorpX help.

Since vorpX apparently worked before and this happens to everything you try, it’s relatively safe to assume that some change to your PC caused this issue.

The No. 1 cause for such an issue are overzeleaus antivirus/security programs. So that’s something you should really triple check. Some av programs apparently don’t really disable themselves even when you tell them to do so. So uninstalling for testing purposes may be worth a try. BitDefender, Avast, Webroot are hot candidates for such odd behaviour, but there may be more.

If nothing helps, your best bet would be to go back to a Windows system restore point from before the issue started to occur and then go from there. With a bit of luck one is still present. Probably easier than trying to find the offending change to the system.

That sounds like a rather odd issue. The head tracking axis normally is completely independent of your controller settings unless you use “head tracking as gamepad”, which should only be used in rare cases like for racing games without mouselook. Do not use this in any other case.

Normally the head tracking exclusively depends on your mouse settings. And in case you inverted the mouse y-axis in the game, inverting the y-axis on the head tracking page of the ingame menu should solve this.

Please first try to reset the profile(s) in question to default in the config app (trouble shooting page) and go from there.

If you still can’t solve this with a clean profile as a starting point, please send me a user profile of a game where you have this issue to support |at| vorpx com.

I will then check this and see whether it can be replicated. User profiles can be found in C:\Users\[Your User]\AppData\Local\Animation Labs\vorpX\Profiles

That’s how it works with protected video content unfortunately. The whole pipeline is encrypted from the drive to the monitor and Windows explicitely does not allow such video to be captured, hence the black window.

Only unprotected BluRays/DVDs can be displayed. Not sure whether that would work with PowerDVD, but MPC-HC/VLC should be able to display unprotected discs.

Both LiquidVR and GameworksVR for the most part will only benefit game developers. vorpX hooks into the pipeline at a quite late point in time, the most interesting things would have to be done earlier and tightly integrated into the game engine. If there is something that can benefit vorpX, it will be done.

There *may* be an indirect benefit though should Oculus decide to implement async timewarp in their drivers (which I assume they will do at some point). For various reasons this would almost certainly be superior to the async timewarp implementation on the application level that is currently present in vorpX.

As said in the quote it’s a side effect of the async timewarp which basically moves the image. To reduce the effect make sure that your game framerate is as high as possible. The higher the framerate is the less work the timewarp has to do.

Ideally you always should have 75fps for both the game and the direct mode fps value (you can check fps with [ALT][F]). Timewarp is a great thing, but it’s not a magic bullet.

The easiest ways to enhance framerate are: reducing graphics settings, reducing resolution, switching to Z-Buffer 3D if the game runs with G3D per default.

    There are two possible ways:

    A. Recording the undistorted game:

    1. Open the vorpX ingame menu with [DEL]
    2. Go to the display page of the ingame menu
    3. Activate “Direct Mode Show Original”

This should allow you to record the undistorted view.

    B. Recording the stereo view like seen in the headset:

    1. Run the game windowed
    2. Open the vorpX ingame menu with [DEL]
    3. Go to the display page of the ingame menu
    4. Activate “Direct Mode Show Mirror Window”. This option is only available when running a game windowed.

This should allow you to record the stereo view.
