    Two things come to mind:

    1) The game isn’t set to 1920×1080 fullscreen!. Fullscreen is important (if the game opens windowed, pressing ALT+Enter may also suffice, provided 2) is set up correctly.

    2) The display configuration isn’t correct: you have two options to use vorpX:

    A. The convenient one (works with most games)

    1. Set the Rift DK2 to “Extend Desktop to HMD”
    2. Use the Rift DK2 as SECONDARY monitor in Windows
    3. Set the Rift DK2 to “Portrait” mode in Windows
(might be “Landscape flipped” in Windows 8)
    4. Set vorpX to “Show on DK2″ display wise in the vorpX config app.

    B. The compatible one

    1. Set the Rift DK2 to “Extend Desktop to HMD”
    2. Use the Rift DK2 as PRIMARY monitor in Windows
    3. Set the Rift DK2 to “Portrait” mode in Windows
(might be “Landscape flipped” in Windows 8)
    4. Set vorpX to “Use system settings” display wise in the vorpX config app.

It is important to choose the right setting in the vorpX config app according to your display settings in Windows. It is important to choose the right setting in the vorpX config app according to your display settings in Windows.

For a more detailed guide including screenshots please check the DK2 setup guide that comes with vorpX.

Just in case someone with a DK1 experiences the same:

In the end this was solved by rolling back to a pre DK2-version of vorpX that does not rely on the Oculus runtime. If someone has the same issue, please send a mail to support |at| vorpx com to receive a downgrade option.

This one is on the to-do-list already. Can’t promise anything before trying, but it will be looked into.

How good Z3D works is indeed game dependant. vorpX does a lot to make Z3D look as good as possible, but games with wide open spaces generally work best. In the distance sometimes better then Geometry 3D. ArmA III is such a case (Skyrim another one).

You can adjust the FOV in ArmA III and many other games automatically with the Game Settings Optimizer in the vorpX config app BTW. No manual ini-editing needed in this case.

Geometry 3D -> Everything is rendered twice for the most natural 3D effect, but the framerate is cut in half.

Z-Buffer 3D -> 3D-effect is applied in post with negligible performance impact for maximum framerate, but there is ‘less Stereo 3D’ for nearby objects.

    Hope that answers your questions.

Can you provide a screenshot? I’m not sure whether I understand the issue.

If the game appears to look correctly in general (two images side by side), but you can’t converge them, please re-adjust your IPD. There have been some changes to the IPD calculation (which should work correctly again now), so your old value may not work anymore.

if it’s a double injection issue (four screens visible) and you use a vorpX shortcut to launch the game, please pause the watcher. Shouldn’t happen, but in rare cases shortcut launching still may cause double injection while the watcher is running.

Another cause for double injection may be a d3d9.dll present in the game folder or a second 3D driver running together with vorpX.

Sounds like you have a gamepad activated in Skyrim. Skyrim disables mouse input while a gamepad is active, which also disables vorpX’s head tracking.

Please disable the gamepad in Skyrim’s option menu. You will still be able to play with a gamapad since vorpX has a fully configurable gamepad emulation built in.

There is no definitive answer to that question. Some basic settings like the display configuration or your IPD value for example are stored globally, while others are saved per game, which makes more sense in most cases.

Zoomed in: Dear Esther has a FOV slider in it’s game options. Setting that to the hieghest value (maybe combined with “3D FOV Enhancement” or one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes in vorpX (display page of the config app)) will give you a natural looking image.

Portal 2 has a FOV slider in it’s option menu IIRC. If setting that to its highest value isn’t enough, you can use the “3D FOV Enhancement”, another aspect ratio mode or Image Scale (both on the display page of the vorpX ingame menu) for the rest.

The Essential Game Hints in the vorpX help give an overview regarding the various strategies to deal with FOV.

You can change to another aspect ratio mode on the display page of the ingame menu. That will remove the black bars, but instead the image will appear “zoomed in”, so I would not recommend doig that.

That is indeed possible. There is an option called “Image Zoom” on the display page of the vorpX ingame menu. Setting it to 0.6 gives the same scale factor as EdgePeek.

    Question 1:

There is a DK2 setup guide in the vorpX help that explains two possible configurations. In short:

    A. The convenient one (may not work with everything)

    Question 2:

vorpX has a function called EdgePeek that allows you to look around the screen. You can enable it by pressing the middle mouse button. If you don’t have a three button mouse on your Mac you can change key bindings in the config app.

In some games vorpX also can scale down the HUD. IIRC Dear Esther is among them, I’m not 100% sure though. If available for a game this function can be accessed with ALT + mousewheel or through the vorpX ingame menu (display page, “HUD Scale”).

This and other useful hints are also available in the vorpX help. The Quickstart Guide and the Essential Game Hints are especially useful.

Deactivating vorpX completely disables everzthing, so a single image is exactly what should be dsiplayed in that case.

You cen switch to Z-Buffer 3D with the “3D Reconstruction” option.

When you have “Use system settings” selected in vorpX, you either have to set the Rift as PRIMARY monitor or set Windows to clone the dsplays (this only works with the DK1). Cloning displays generally is the best option for the DK1.

In case of the DK1 please also set the game resolution to 1280×800.

If you still can’t get it working after doing this, please send a mail to support |at| vorpx com to receive a downgrade for the DK1 that does not rely on the Oculus runtime.
