The grid texture displayed in the calibration is a bug. It was used in development for other purposes, but wasn’t swapped back before release.

The correct calibration screen, which does include instructions, will be back shortly.

This is not normal at all. I have no clear idea what may cause this in your case TBH, but both Mirrors Edge and Fear 2 should run with smooth 60fps without much problems on a semi decent machine in G3D.

Mirrors Edge for example runs easily with 60fps here (begin of 1st level, 1920×1080, Geometry 3D, GTX 770).

The only thing I can imagine is that you maybe have an SLI or nVidia Optimus system or something else that also hooks into the graphics pipeline additionally to vorpX, which can cause all sorts of issues. That might be something worth to check.

Official word on this is that you do multiplayer gaming with vorpX at your own risk.

That said there have been no reports of someone getting banned so far with vorpX over the last year that I am aware of, so you will most likely be safe. Still, it’s up to you whether you want to take the risk.

Currently there isn’t anything in vorpX that could seriously considered to be a cheat. This will change soon though as positional tracking is unlocked in more games. Positional tracking like done in vorpX will almost certainly be seen as cheat, since it allows you to see through walls. Do NEVER use vorpX with positional tracking enabled in a multiplayer game. A feature like this would cause anticheat problems with any driver, nVidia included. A warning in this regard will be added to the vorpX start screen.

There are several ways to deal with a too narrow FOV in vorpX (from best to worst):

    1. Set the game FOV directly in the game if it provides to dial in an FOV of 120°,
    2. Set the game FOV directly with the vorpX Game Optimizer (vorpX config app) for games that support it.
    3. Set the game FOV to 120 manually through an ini tweak or external tool (avaliable for many games, google FOV + game name).
    4. Use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu (availabe in Geometry 3D games).
    5. Use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes in the vorpX ingame menu and/or ImageZoom
    6. Use the 2D FOV-Enhancement in the vopX ingame menu (be aware that this distorts the image)

Please try to reset the game profile in the vorpX config app. Incidentially I worked on Oblivion just yesterday, so I’m 100% sure that there is no general issue with Geometry 3D in the game. So all I can assume here is that your settings are somehow screwed up.

Regarding the self resetting FOV in Oblivon the next vorpX version will ease the pain. No more console commands required. You should also unbind the mousewheel in the game options, this should prevent the switch to third person view.

You have to press F11 in the game to switch to the new FOV after applying the Game Optimizer setting. In some cases additional steps like this one are unavoidable. If that is the case, the additional steps are mentioned in the according optimizer entry.

If applying the FOV automatically fails for some reason, you can also do these tweaks manually in many cases by googling for “FOV + Game name”. For Mirrors Edge you can find multiple tutorials, one of thhem here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=138177233

Alternatively you can use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu. Directly setting the FOV in the game is usually better though.

FOV at 120 is the most important thing. Be careful with raising the 3D Strength. If you use Geometry 3D, the default of 1.0 is quite close to what you experience in reality.

The higher you raise separation (3D-Strength), the smaller the world around you gets, this is how it works. Imagine it as your eyes becoming farther apart in reality, which would have the same effect.

VR is not about an over the top 3D effect, it’s about recreating realistic scale and 3D. The default value is pretty close to that. If you think you really have to change it, change it with great care.

If the Rift as secondary, vorpX to “Show on DK2” method does not work for you (normally it should for Skyrim and most other games), you have to resort to DK2 as primary, vorpX to “Use system settings”.

That is pretty inconvenient for sure, but not impossible. You can either try looking through the Rift’s lenses with one eye, and use the desktop this way, or rearrange your whole desktop including moving the taskbar back to your monitor as a more permanent solution.

Direct to HMD is not supported currently. It may work with some games (including Skyrim), but Direct to HMD directly conflicts with what vorpX does, so this is not officially supported at all currently.

The two “official” setup options are described in the DK2 Setup Guide in the documentation.

Please also check your Skyrim folder for a d3d9.dll and remove it if you find one. In case you use many mods, try a fresh install without any mods.

You will probably hate me, but that sounds A LOT like either the resolution is not set to 1920×1080 or the aspect ratio mode is set to “Logarithmic” or “Strech”. Make sure to use “Pixel 1:1” (the default) for the best result. Also do not use the 2D FOV Enhancement which creates a similar distortion (in both cases on purpose).

Might make sense to restore your Stanley Parable game profile to default in the vorpX config app. You should not have to adjust anything in the vorpX menu besides maybe the 3D-Strength if you don’t like the default value.

Setting the FOV in the game to the second highest value gives an almost perfect result here. If you feel that finetuning is necessary, you can use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu for fine grained adjustment (at the expense of a slight shadow offset).

This looks odd. First thing I noticed is that the game runs windowed, which should not be the case. Make sure to run games fullscreen at a resolution of 1920×1080 prior to using them with vorpX.

In regard to the basic vorpX setup you have two options, a convenient one that doesn’t work with all games (DK2 as secondary display, vorpX to “Show only on DK2”), and a compatible one (DK2 as primary display, vorpX to “Use system settings”).

Instead of reiterating that here in detail, I’d like to point you to the DK2 setup guide in the vorpX documentation, which has a full step-by-step walkthrough with pictures.

One caveat: If you use Windows 8, you may have to set the DK2’s orientation to “Landscape flipped” instead of “Portrait”, that info is missing in the guide currently.

You’re right, I will. The “How to get the most out of vorpX” guide in this case. :) What you are seeing is the FOV (field of view) of the game being too low. Various strategies how to deal with that issue in different games are explained in the guide.

In F1 2013 the FOV can be changed either by using the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu if you use Geometry 3D, or by using an external utility to change the FOV, which probably is the better method. Googling for “f1 2013 fov” will give you download locations and short tutorials for such a tool.

If you can live with black bars at the top/bottom of the image you can also use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes or alternatively the ImageZoom function of vorpX.

If you could post a video, it might be easier to understand the issue. Fraps should work fine for recording. Please reset the Stanley Parable profile to default in the config app before doing so.

You should NOT use the logarithmic AR mode, since it introduces distortion by design. I meant to disable it in case you enabled it accidentally before. The same is true for the 2D FOV Enhancement BTW.

The game settings section of the forum was originally meant to serve that purpose. But apparently noone ever read the ReadMe sticky over there… :)

A wiki may indeed be better suited for this. I’ll see what I can do.
