    Fallout 4 is working with
    htcvive 1280 x 720 with 20 FPS (geometric 3D)

    Fallout 4 is working with
Pimax @ 1920 x 1080 (geometric 3D) with 36 FPS ???!!!! and looks wonderful (headtracker has a big drift, the picture smears with moving of the head – but it looks overall much better than vive for me)

Skyrim se is working with htc vive
but is working with Pimax only 2D why ? I have no idea

Alien isolation is working with Pimax in geometric 3D also !

    best regards

    Hey Ralf

Playing standing in normal VR mode is perfectly possible and looking around to choose a direction and virtually stepping forward using the controller in that direction as well. Like I said above.

In VR mode however (no matter how you set the FOV or at what resolution) the Motion Tracker in Alien Isolation is positioned to0 far off the center of the view screen, thus it is not visible in normal VR mode without using Edge Peek.

That is the reason why I activate Edge Peek momentarily even while standing so the screen zooms out enough so I can see the Motion Tracker.

However, as mentioned above Edge Peek has not memorized the direction I was facing in normal VR mode, it stays stuck on the initial point of view for example North. Since I don’t use the mouse to point my character in a certain direction, but face a certain direction using the HMD, the mouse keeps pointing at its original position and is not updated to my current facing direction in Edge Peek mode; So, whenever edge peek is activated, an invisible hand pulls my chin and my view direction back to that original mouse direction.

In short, in normal VR mode, I am facing west; when activating Edge Peek, my ingame viewpoint changes to facing north instead of facing West like in VR mode.

Although you guys suggest vorpX is a seated experience; I have a little suggestion that might make Alien Isolation ( and all games where ege peek is regularly needed) a better experience, and allow vorpX to be used as a standing experience in First Person View games, using your body’s orientation to look, and one joystick to move.

So here is how I tried to experience Alien Isolation.

    – Hardware : VIVE + old Xbox controller (via xbcd)

    – I have no native xbox controller support so I use joy2key to map the keyboard controls to my controller.

    – Since AI is a stealth game more than a running game where necessary strafe could possibly cause sickness, I can play in the standing position and turn my body left and right depending on where I want to look and walk to. Besides it gives a much more natural feeling to the game versus sitting on a chair.
    – Then I use the left thumbstick to walk in the direction I am facing.
    – So far so good, the motion is natural and everything, but…

As you are well aware, the Motion Tracker is an essential kit which is not in view of the player and Edge Peek must be used. The disadvantage of Edge Peek is that it resets the camera position relative to the center of your screen, not to the center of where you were looking at.

It’s a bit hard to explain but here goes:

    – At the start of the game I am facing North
    – There is a corridor to the East and one to the West.
    – I want to see if there is an alien in either corridor.
    – Facing the east corridor (by turning my body in that direction) I trigger edge peek mode which faces me back automatically to North instead of keeping focus on the East.
    – Can we have a setting so we can switch this behavior off ?

When using a program like xpadder or Joy2Key one can bind all these keys on the keyboard to one controller button.

So I tried to map 4 funtions to following 4 buttons to one controller button

    – Motion tracker on
    – Edge Peek mode on
    – center positional headtracking (makes the edge peek cinema screen follow your orientation)
    – center headtracking (gamepad) – on/off does not seem to solve the problem.

I have also set xbox controller override to partial (x-axis only)

Am I missing something here ? please advise.

    Thank you

Hi Ralph, i wonder if the next version will address the headtracking issue with some games.

    – Skyrim: aware of the mouse OR controller issue, i was trying to use the built in controller configuration feature to emulate keyboard with no success. I was wondering if the VORPX custom controller configuration will further improve or if you could build a specific controller profile for Skyrim as this is one of the most requested games.

    – Deus Ex Human Revolution: headtracking issue that lets you look around OR move, never at the same time.

    – Alien Isolation: headtracking deactivates after moving with the controller, reactivates after using Vorpx menu again

I’ve experienced a couple of games on Pimax 4K powered by VorpX. I’ve bought VorpX a couple of weeks ago but I’m already experienced in VR and 3D (anaglyph 3D, cross-eyed, parallel eyed, Tridef 3D, iZ3D, Nvidia 3D TV Play, Nvidia 3D Vision, helixmod, Vireio Perception). Configuring VorpX was pretty easy. No help needed.

Games played on Pimax 4K + VorpX + modifications like FOV, DSR, no GUI, latency optimizations:

    – Alien Isolation
    – Battlefield 3
    – Bioshock Infinite
    – GTA 5
    – Skyrim Original
    – Skyrim Special Edition (cloned Fallout 4 profile)

Depending on the game-/vorpX compatibility geometry 3D or z-adaptive.

    Disadvantge:
    – lil bit of ghosting while moving the head (sometimes not visible, depends on the scene)
    – 60hz instead of 90hz (not recommended for fast motion games)
    – IPD adjustment is softwarewise instead of hardwarewise
    – software crashes sometimes while initial IPD adjustment (reboot needed)

    Advantage:
    – Almost no screen door effect. In most cases absolutely no screen door effect. That’s WOW!!!
(There is a SDE comparision on YouTube between Gear VR 2.5K and Pimax 4K)
    – The image is absolutely fantastic (2.5K 1440p and 4K 2160p in-game resolution powered by Nvidia DSR supersampling – HDMI 1.4b 60hz). Provided you found the right IPD settings for your eyes and the device is not faulty. Wrong IPD settings = looks like cross eyed / blurry.
    – Even 2K 1080p looks great but I prefer at least 2.5K due to higher aliasing. Alien Isolation does not need high FPS so I played in 4K in-game resolution for superb graphics.
    – The image looks not as good on my FullHD 27 inch monitor but almost!
    – I’m able to read text easily.

I agree about adding better documentation for the supported games. In PDF-document there should be a part about supported games and fine adjustments because at start you get advisable about resolution, so we need a guide with fine adjusment and with proper 3D settings. And yes that would be good to Vorpx´s reputation.
You can also google about Oculus and Hive native supported games which dont need Vorpx to work properly.
<offtopic> I have my own trouble to get Alien Isolation work right in native mode, runtime 1.9 DK2. Old guides talks about changing oculus to prime monitor but that is old knowledge. Alien Isolation works in native mode in my TV :D , so any one got some new tips about that?</offtopic>

As I read on one russian site, Deepoon Assistant 1.5.1.10 install old Oculus drivers (of 0.8 SDK) as in-pack part which not allow to play CV1 games. Recomendation is installing 1.3.2.10 (I guess there are no any OR drivers included, so no conflicts).

Let me translate installing step-by-step guide from there for you and other deepoon owners. That way completly works for me.

It shoud works on all windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10

    0) I recommend to uninstall deepoon, oculus software (also runtime) and they drivers from device manager. Maybe it’s good to clean Windows Registry using tool like ccleaner. It is not from guide, but it clear I think.

    1) Install last Runtime with Oculus Home.
    Web istaller https://www3.oculus.com/en-us/setup/
Skip all setup procedures, but make sure that OR software and drivers is up to date. Also you need to make OR account. Just register. Use PIN 1234, for example.
    2) When installing process is done, go to Device Manager. You should see Rift DK2 Senson with warning icon. Delete this one WITH DRIVER! Deepoon haven’t positional sensor as original DK2.
    3) Plug Deepoon device to yout PC. (HTMI + USB)
    4) Now install Deepoon Assistant 1.3.2.10 . It’s very important! Do not install last Deepoon Assistant 1.5.1.10 because it’s provide build-in old DK2 drivers from 0.8 Runtime which not allow to play CV1 games.
    Deepoon Assistant 1.3.2.10: http://static.vrbig.com/deepoon_assistant/DPNAssistant_V1.3.2.10.rar

    5) Reboot your PC
    6) Run Oculus Home, make sure Deepoon light indicator is blue (not red). Oculus Home message you that DK2 unsupported – do not worry, it’s ok. Just close blue message block. In Deepoon you can see a warning about DK2. Just press A button on your gamepad.
    7) Author also recommend to install LibOVRWrapper 1.2. https://github.com/kalavaras/LibOVRWrapper/releases/download/v1.2/LibOVRWrapper-1.2.zip (run bat file as administrator)
That Wrapper allow to play OR games uses old 0.6+ runtimes.

    8) And yes, don’t forget allow to running games from unknown sourses. (Check Oculus Home settings: Settings/General/Unknown Sources )

    Done.

After that guide I tryed to start “Start vorpX”, and then “vorpX Desktop Viewer” (just test) and they work. Then I tryed to play Alien Isolation, seems all are OK.

    Goodluck!

Hi dennis , nice walkthrough , have you had a problem with shadows in alien isolation? like having in one eye shadows and in the other one no shadows which makes it override each other and makes up for a really bad image in deepoon e2? if you had this problem, how did you fix it ? Thanks a lot

Hello people , i’m having several issues i will apoint next , for starters i’m playing Soul Axiom game , and the only way to play it is using geometrical 3d rendering , but when i use it idk why but i see some textures like floating out of place , for example when i see a led tv (or a rectangle to say things simple) the texture or image of this tv is floating out of place , happens with many other things like lamps , holograms , etc.

Second problem with soul axiom , i see the floor and many textures waaay too dark , like way too obscure i pumped up all the ingame brightness and gamma with no results on the rift, it still looks dark and many times i can’t see where to go because im blinded by the darkness in game

And the third problem is with Alien isolation at the moment. If i remember correctly i can only play with geometrical or without it , but when i play with geometrical rendering there is this weird bug where in one eye i see shadows and in the other eye i see no shadows , so the images override each other , or something like that.

Are there any fixes for this issues?
Thanks a lot in advance guys

The old rift demo that came with the runtime software still works. And I used to run Alien Isolation and Elite Dangerous on this laptop with my rift so I know it’s possible. Thanks for the heads up.

I have to say, i completely see the potential to this software, however I’ve not been able to get it right.

Had some times where it looked great and then it just went wrong.

Been trying to set up alien isolation, just can’t get it right.

Have just got an EVGA 1080 so with a little more grunt i may be ok.

I think there should be sections for each device, DK1 / 2 / CV and Vive.

I’ve got the CV and some of the tweaks and fixes for DK2 simply don’t work on the CV.

Slenderman is a prime example, bought the newest one and it crashes prior to the game loading the first part, intro loads but not the game, have tried a lot of settings, when googling it, i always find fixes for the DK2 not CV.

So I was playing Alien: Isolation on my one month old CV1. Everything worked just fine after setting FOV, VorpX, nvidia DSR for 2k and 4k resolutions, playing for more than 2 weeks no issues, all flawless.
Last night Windows 10 decides to upgrade to Win 10 anniversary edition and this happens: https://youtu.be/ZUG8CiaYbSI

Artifacts appear across the entire display in VorpX games as seen in the video I recorded with my phone through the right CV1 lens. Sometimes they take a while to appear, sometimes on 4k DSR resolution they are present from the intro. This never happened before the update and I don’t use overclock settings (where this kind of artifacts are specific for unstable overclocks). The only way to get rid of this issue is to switch to another resolution and after 15-20 minutes it starts again.

Same thing happens in other games like Stalker: Call of Pripyat (Misery mod) which I have finished on CV1 before Alien: Isolation with no issues. Didn’t see the issue in Half Life 2 on VorpX. Also, it doesn’t reproduce on native titles like Elite: Dangerous, Oculus Home demos etc or on 2D monitor (checked in Alien: Isolation with 1080p and 4k DSR resolution, flawless)…this happens exclusivelly in VorpX titles.

Any suggestion Ralf ? Or someone who encountered this ? Is this something that can be fixed in a future VorpX update or is there any workaround ? Cause it’s extremely annoying, especially on VR horror games and so far changing the resolution is the only temporarily fix for 20 minutes, but when it occurs again it is so immersion breaking.

I’m on i7 6700k CPU, 16GB DDR4 and nVidia GTX 1070. Please help, the majority of games I’m playing on CV1 are VorpX based, Microsoft screwed me bad this time. Anyone else experienced this since the damn update ?

I haven’t played this in a while, but maybe you can try changing the FOV

Alien Isolation: How to change FOV above 75

This will allow you change the FOV higher than the games default max of 75.

    1. Locate the ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML file in the games files which can be found in Steam\steamapps\common\Alien Isolation\DATA

2.Open the ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML file in Notepad and find the following line of text <Setting name=Field Of View>

    3. Directly under <Setting name=Field Of View> in the file, add the following text <Quality name=90 float=90.0 precedence=8/> You can change the number 90 to which ever FOV value you want.

    4. After you have finished adding FOV options, you will need to save the file by either using File>Save or pressing CTRL+S.

Note: If you want to add more FOV options in the file, you will need to change the precedence number to one higher than the number before.

So I recently purchased a copy of vorpx to use with my VIVE. My system is as follows:

    Windows 10 64bit home
    5820k
    16GB Ram
    980 ti Gigabyte G1
    Gigabyte X99 Phoenix SLI

When I try to run Alien Isolation steam gives me a warning that it will be running on both my desktop and VR HMD. The game crashes on startup (blank screen after a little bit of the startup audio).

I am currently reinstalling Alien to see if that fixes it. I was previously editing the FOV in the game engine file so maybe I screwed something up there.

    Has anyone experienced this?

I have no problem giving credit where credit is due, especially as there seems to be a lot of people out there on the negative train, due to super high expectations or inability to spend the time to set it up. That’s the internet…
Ralf, If I were you, I would focus on 1) setting expectations – give video tutorials, etc. 2) Maybe a wizard or foolproof simple page of instructions 3) Focus on Geometry 3D for a few more “winner” type games that would win people over. ie. Assassins creed 4,5,6, Splinter cell blacklist, witcher 3, fear 3, alien isolation, mankind divided.
Keep this puppy rolling – VR is brand new, and this has so much potential to be huge.

    Cheers,
    Dean.
