Doesn’t NMS has VR support? Though from what i remember, the engine was changed to Vulkan right before VR support was added, used to work with vorpX but personally haven’t tried since.

Just checked and yep, NMS April 16 2019’s patch, from OpenGL to Vulkan. vorpX has no Vulkan support

Hey Ralf, have a question, which aspect ratio would be best for playing with “aspect ratio correction” set to “letterbox 2”?

The thing is that using 4:3 res i get really big black bars that won’t go away even with zoom at max, i guess “Pixel 1:1” is the most correct setting but the scale of the world tends to give me a headache after a while and i just can’t play long sessions that way.

Not sure if changing the aspect ratio would change the black bars, in case it wouldn’t, maybe you could add a higher zoom?

    Keep up the good work.

Idk why i thought SVP was free software, at least it has a 30 day trial version.

My review: it’s a pretty good GUI for ffmpeg, the neat thing is that it transcodes on the fly adding the interpolated frames but beyond that i find using ffmpeg directly a better way to get better results, as you get access to everything it offers that SVP does not use. Although SVP does automates a lot as it even deinterlaces and gives good results without any configuration (and you don’t even have to know if your video is interlaced e.g., nor anything about the source for that matter nvm, just noticed that SVPcode outputs a still interlaced video, it just isn’t as noticeable, i’m really unsure about the code they’re using bc the video looks quite fluid and it’s doing more than just adding more frames), though at the end of the day it still uses ffmpeg for transcoding.
From my tests it adds a little more artifacts than the code i use using the same mode (blend, though i probably use different extra options) even though it’s not the best mode (though the mci mode is extremely slow by comparison), but both ffmpeg and SVPcode take the same time with the same parameters (same codec, crf and preset speed),

Adding more post-processing software for real-time playback will obviously result in more demand of resources, Avisynth seems like a really great software now that i’ve started using it, my only ‘con’ is that it only works with avi natively (although you can use ffmpeg libraries for other containers which require some extra setup depending on the codecs and framerate) but other than that you can use it with any video, no need to use SVP.

As such, my advice is to use Avisynth after transcoding with SVPcode, that way you’ll bypass the resources needed by having SVP running.

About the 3D, i have absolutely no idea what you tried to say, nor why you cannot set the hmd to 90Hz, i use a WMR hmd too and unfortunately the updates have patched some of the workarounds i used to use to bypass the need of a monitor/tv but i have had no problem about the hmd 90Hz setting, only with the resolutions.

Bug Report for the beta version: For Bioshock, using the new sync i get 20-30 less fps, depending on location; ended up using the old sync as it’s much faster. Anywhere i tested was the same thing, using the old sync is simply better, it even crashed once using the new sync so i stopped using it completely.

Also tested Witcher 3 but i didn’t see a difference using either, no crash either but i didn’t play it for long.

    Specs:
    CPU R5-3600X
    GPU GTX Titan X
    RAM 16 GB DDR4 @ 3200
    HMD Acer AH101 WMR

My main problem was that vorpX changed MPC-HC settings every time it closes, but i found that changing the renderer and closing a video without closing MPC-HC, then re-loading a video seems to work, though you DO need to disable Direct 11 in madVR for it to work, nice find!

While i could use madVR, i simply couldn’t make it look any closer to how vorpX default custom-EVR looks, it literally looked like a ~100p video no matter the settings i used (which did changed the rendering but just barely and couldn’t make it look beyond a 240p video), what settings do you use to make it look hd?

The next part i quite didn’t understand it, so you’re not using vorpX anymore? The resolution part is for image scaling only then? Bc i don’t think i’d need them for 4K content unless i wanted to downscale it (which kinda beats the purpose).

As for SVP, my advice would be to use FFMPEG to pre-compute the interpolated frames (using minterpolate command), that way you wouldn’t need to use extra cpu during playback. Though from my tests it’s really slow unless you use blend mode which isn’t the best mode but it’s REALLY fast and for 30 fps videos it might look good enough if you’re just doubling it. The main problem with FFMPEG imo is that most commands don’t have a gpu equivalent and as such it’s pretty cpu intensive.

And about avisynth, idk why you’d need it, not sure what you’re doing with it. Are you using it to create 3D video from 2D? Bc i don’t get where you’re getting 3D cartoons… sorry, can’t really understand that part.

The noise reduction and edge sharpening in nvidia settings are pretty good, has practically no impact on performance and you can change it on the fly.

You can simply turn on the pc with no monitor whatsoever and just plug-in the hmd, if your hmd allows it, then you’ll get only the native resolutions for your hmd and you won’t even have to add custom resolutions.

I don’t really follow the game’s news but every news about it agree on the “at launch” comments made by the developers.

vorpX comes with official profiles for games that are officially supported, however there are many more games supported unofficially which you can download the profiles for from the cloud’s vorpX server added by the community, and you can even make your own profiles for any game.

Seems i can’t post links to other sites, in any case every news about the expansion agree on the “at launch” comments made by the developer (i just searched Elite: Dangerous Odyssey VR and every news even had “at launch” on the title).

Every game officially supported has a profile the moment you install vorpX but there are many unofficially supported game profiles you can download from the cloud’s vorpX server, which the community created and uploaded to, and you can also create your own custom profiles for any game (as well as upload it into the cloud).

Been a while since i tried madVR so went to check it again, it’s not compatible with vorpX through MPC-HC as everytime i change the render in the settings, vorpX resets the settings to EVR, so my testing might have been flawed (been a couple of years since i did it so my memories might have been somewhat misguided). Wanted to clarify that madVR as a video renderer was used to render video to each eye of a screen (basically what VR does back when it really wasn’t VR) and that’s the part vorpX is doing, not the rendering itself (hoping Ralf can clarify some of it but not expecting anything so don’t worry Ralf).

On the other hand, if you use a nvidia gpu you can adjust some video image settings at the control panel, noise reduction and edge enhancement, recomended setting them to ~30%. The performance hit is minimum but it does has a clear effect on video quality, funny as i just found out there’s also an option for inverse telecine in there, every day you learn something new.

Since the game already has VR support there’s no official nor unofficial vorpX profiles and while it might be possible to use another profile, nobody can really tell until the expansion it’s released. The expansion will have official VR support, just won’t have it at launch, so i doubt vorpX will get an official profile but the community may create one.

Been a while since i last played Conan Exiles but while it worked, it has an anticheat (can’t remember if it was EAC or VAC) which means you can only play it on servers with no anticheat afaik, didn’t really tried to play on normal servers tho

Just read your other post and i guess this is why you wrote it, don’t beat yourself up Ralf, the easy answer was to simply state that 3D-Vision isn’t even supported anymore by nVidia and no machine uses it any longer as any “new” driver doesn’t even comes with it, which makes anything related to it completely obsolete and simply not applicable anymore, including the “3 core bug” which still happens even without 3D-Vision bc it simply isn’t a bug.

My guess is the “3D-Vision 3 core bug” that keeps on popping up from time to time, seems like a cult developed around it.

Oh, so SVP just interpolates the frames ala reprojection. The problem with that is that it won’t always be 100% accurate and it can introduce graphical artifacts.

As you seem to be quite into it you probably know about ffmpeg, you can do everything you talked about with it, inculding what SVP does. Imo it is one of the best open source softwares available on the internet and you should really look into it bc everything you’ve mention can be done with it, including upscaling any video to 4k although idk why you’d want such a thing given upscaling will result in pixelation, the only way it wouldn’t (and the same thing with SVP) would be by using a trained AI for such things.
