Custom HMDs are not supported by vorpX, sorry. You need an Oculus Rift DK1/DK2.

Pretty good respose time I would say, most other companies would have let you wait until next week. Purchases are handled fully automated by an external service, so this is not comparable to a support request in any way. Please make a backup of the web installer this time. This way you won’t have to request another download.

My sincere apologies that we can’t answer every request within minutes, especially on a weekend. If you are who I think ypu are, you should have received the download link in the meantime.

The normal release cycle of new versions is approx. three months. Next one probably will take longer though due to heavy changes related to the new Oculus runtime. The last version was released about two months ago.

vorpX is actively maintained since its release 2013, and I can assure you that this will not change anytime soon.

Future vorpX development will focus on supporting new games not making native DK1 demos/games work with the DK2. Although it would be nice to have every old demo working on DK2, I don’t think that there will be high demand for something like that to justify the effort.

There are already DX11 games with Geometry 3D. For example Battlefield 3, Bioshock Infinite, Deus Ex HR, F1 2013, F2014 and a few more. More will be added, but this will not be possible for everything.

This is a false positive. Please make sure that you have the latest virus definition file for Windows Defender. If that doesn’t help, you can exclude the vorpX program folder from scanning until the definition file is updated.

You have two options to use vorpX:

    A. The convenient one (works with most games)

    1. Set the Rift DK2 to “Extend Desktop to HMD”
    2. Use the Rift DK2 as SECONDARY monitor in Windows
    3. Set the Rift DK2 to “Portrait” mode in Windows
(might be “Landscape flipped” in Windows 8)
    4. Set vorpX to “Show on DK2″ display wise in the vorpX config app.

    B. The compatible one

    1. Set the Rift DK2 to “Extend Desktop to HMD”
    2. Use the Rift DK2 as PRIMARY monitor in Windows
    3. Set the Rift DK2 to “Portrait” mode in Windows
(might be “Landscape flipped” in Windows 8)
    4. Set vorpX to “Use system settings” display wise in the vorpX config app.

It is important to choose the right setting in the vorpX config app according to your display settings in Windows. It is important to choose the right setting in the vorpX config app according to your display settings in Windows.

For a more detailed guide including screenshots please check the DK2 setup guide that comes with vorpX.

Very odd issue. Could you please reinstall vorpX with your virus scanner disabled/uninstalled. Maybe the main program gets deleted during the installation.

Afterwards please check whether vorpControl.exe exists in your vorpX program folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Animation Labs\vorpX) and is larger than 0KB.

IIRC it’s one of those games where shadows aren’t really fixable, so the decision was to either render them slightly wrong or turn them off. For a lot of games this can be user defined now. Not sure currently if that was done for Outlast already, but if available in a game, the according option (“Shadow Handling”) is on the display page of the vorpX ingame menu. Worth to check.

It may also be the case that I missed a few shadows. If you encountered the issue not within the first 30 minutes or so, please send a savegame to support |at| vorpx com, which would help to check later points in the game.

My personal recommendation would be Z3D for Outlast though. With G3D the game has quite a few effect issues which were only partially fixable (or unfixable and hence disabled), not just the shadows. The game is so intense, you’ll forget about the not so good Stereo 3D pretty soon. Missing shadows in a game like this certainly are a lot worse.

Nothing new yet unfortunately. The game works fine in the menu, but when the actual game is started it tries to recreate its renderer multiple times with vorpX active and eventually crashes after doing this a few times. Sometimes even a few frames are displayed correctly before this happens. Very odd issue…

I’m not an FSX expert, but as far as I understand it FSXRift provides better heradtracking that what is possible with vorpX alone, probably by utilizing the TrackIR protocol available in FSX.

in reply to: How do I get World of Warcraft working? #88044

World of Warcraft currently is Z-Buffer 3D (Z3D) only. Generally this means “less 3D” than Geometry 3D (G3D), but roughly twice the FPS.

The entries may look the same, but one is for the first monitor, the other one for the second.

    Apart from that:

In case you have the Oculus runtime 0.6.0 installed, please roll back to 0.5.1.

Otherwise I would recommend to go back to an earlier Windows system restore point before your problems started.

vorpX worked on Windows 10 when I tried, but that was a while ago. So not sure about any possible issues that may have been introduced by graphics driver changes in the meantime. Official support will be introduced shortly after the Windows 10 release version is available.

I don’t expect any significant performance boost for DX9 to DX11 games though. I read that post on the Oculus forum, but I honestly think that this primarily is a case of a subjectively perceived performance gain that probably isn’t really there.
