When using the gamepad emulation, I can’t get map-shift working even though the option is enabled and the controller visualization shows map-shift where the grip-button is on the left touchpad controller…also when I turn off swap B and Y, the B button does not work on the right touchpad controller, I have to turn on swap B and Y and then B only works with the left touchpad controller. I tried saving the settings and restarting vorpx and even rebooting…still having these problems.

Just let me know if you encounter any other issues that you think weren’t there before. Apart from the added support for more controllers and a highly important fix regarding positional tracking that you definitely want to have there weren’t really any general changes in this update.

Unfortunately it’s not possible for me to provide support for multiple versions at the same time. Most people expect frequent updates these days, yet supporting many different versions at once is unfeasible even for larger organizations. That’s why you see more and more ‘forced’ updates everywhere. Even more true for a program like vorpX that has to work with literally hundreds of games, many of them getting frequent updates themselves that may (and do) break things on a regular basis, making it highly important to ensure everyone stays up-to-date.

And as if that wasn’t enough already, also the VR runtimes from Valve and Oculus are still evolving at such a fast pace that relatively frequent updates are practically inevitable.

Are you only interested in isometric RPGs, or do you enjoy other RPGs?

I enjoy many of the classic-style isometric RPGs, but also enjoy many of the newer ones. Probably the best “blend” of traditional and new was Dragon Age Origins, which I would whole-heartedly recommend even to people who “only like real isometric-style RPGs. Other than that one things go non-traditional pretty quickly, but if you can adjust don’t hesitate to try the rest of the Dragon Age series, the Mass Effect series, Fallout 3, NV, and 4, or even Skyrim (not a very good RPG, but a nice open world wandering-around kind of thing), and don’t forget Witcher 2 and 3. All good, or even great, RPGs that you might enjoy.

Oh, and I don’t know if it will work with VorpX, I’m not quite there yet, but NWN2 is still a fairly good RPG even by today’s standards, and it did work with TriDef so there is at least some chance you can get it to work with VorpX.

Just tested my DE:MD and it’s working fine. I can switch between G3D and Z3D no problem, both work.

I recall there being an issue needing to play exclusive fullscreen mode to get z-buffer working though. So try that again and the other tricks you mentioned in the post from last year here.

For what it’s worth: my brief test was using exclusive fullscreen mode, with Temp AA on, using my native 2560×1440. I switched to 4k to see if that broke anything, but it still worked Z3D.

I think the profile works great and should remain. In fact I was pleasantly surprised to see geometry added recently – considering it was Z3D only even before Ralf felt it not worthwhile to spend more time on it. I’m glad though, it’s working nicely on my new card.

That’s not how I meant it. I think you reported Z3D issues with this game about 3 or 4 times in the past and I spent an highly disproportionate amount of time on it already to somehow get it working reliably. If not even that proves enough to fully stabilize the z-buffer extraction, there is not much of a choice unfortunately. Sorry again and thanks for your understanding.

Does the game crash even without vorpX?

Also, it’s a good idea to launch a game just installed once without vorpX, so it can complete setup.

Just skimmed the steam forums and there are lots of people with “crash on startup” problems. Fix propositions ranging from uninstalling certain windows media codecs, to defaulting the ini if you tweaked fov or resolution there, or checking your cpu is supported. Go have a look.

Might have something to do with the intro video.

I booted my re7 in vorpX just now to see, and it’s working as normal.

Hope you can get it sorted. re7’s a pretty neat experience.

There isn’t really any difference in regard to unit mapping between both modes, and in regard to input latency the ‘normal’ positional tracking even has the edge compared to the DirectVR mode since it is applied at the latest possible point in time directly before the geometry gets rendered.

The only real drawback of the ‘normal’ positional tracking is that, especially with mouse based rotational tracking, it should only be used for small movements like peeking around a corner or similar things, not for walking around. If rotational DirectVR is available for a game, even that restriction in most cases doesn’t have to be followed 100% strictly.

BTW: you rarely (read: almost never) should have to tweak the multipliers.

TLDR: If you stay in place or play seated and re-center head tracking occasionally (ALT-SPACE or the according menu button), the ‘normal’ positional tracking is as good as DirectVR positional in regard to unit mapping and about half a frame better in regard to latency.

I am currently testing DAO Inquisition (Samsung Odyssey), with a mod first person camera that contains several FOV options, through the mod manager Frosty with success.
Once selected ingame window, dx11 DAO hooks correctly, and I can select Full VR mode.
The mod allows you to predefine a key not used to change to the first person view.

    The doubts now are:
How can I get the view tied to the movement of my head using the first person view?

I think that if we get this, along with using xbox controller for example and the DAO interface for this, the HUD is minimal.
Today I’ve traveled the world a bit doing tests in the game, and it’s amazing. This game totally deserves a review to check if improvements are possible.

Only unite the mouse in sight, and the management with command and its interface, and would achieve fully playable in full VR mode this title completely, a dream come true.

Additionally, consider G3D or even rescaled UI layer, simply convert this profile, into one of the most prized jewels for my taste with Vorpx and probably for many lovers of these worlds.

Any help here, is welcome and grateful.

    Hey guys,

So i saw the thread about the first person mass effect Andromeda mod and decided it would be fun to try – but the vorpx profile is breaking the sound not just in the game, but my entire computer. Ive launched the game multiple times without Vorpx – no sound problems… I hook vorpx in and the audio is crackling and even after i CLOSE vorpx and ME Andromeda my audio is still crackling.

Ive already done a full uninstall/reinstall of all my audio drivers to try to fix this so theyre as fresh as they can be… but yeah, its weird – it starts when i launch vorpx + Andromeda… but even after closing both, the crackling audio keeps going in apps like spotify or on youtube.

does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? Thanks for any help

and just fyi – the modder put up his new FPS mod on nexus earlier, so its back up and ready to play

Edit: I actually just tried closing vorpx from the tab bar and then the audio problems went away.. so killing vorpx entirely after launching ME:A fixes the audio for the overall pc. i was mistaken.. but i still need a way to make it work in game.

HL2 itself has the same bug as (at least) this mod. It’s happening whatever mod i use, including portal 2 for example. Sometimes, when the game opens in full screen, the screen freezes at desktop when the game is in focus, but i can return to the real desktop alt-tabbing, it freezes again when i maximize the game. So, when i did that logfile, hl2 was configured in full screen (i can’t open it) and used DoD:Source instead to produce the bug i’m talking about, because i can myself set the game to windowed mode and play anyway.

What happens is that the game hooks, overlay is showing ingame, i can move the mouse with my head, but the screen on HMD is just black. I’m not seeing the OpenVR background, or anything at all. So i supose the hmd is detected, and is attached to a game. But i can’t even open the config menu of vorpx, or see anything at all. Inclusive the DirectVR Scan is working, as always, but there is just a black screen in my htc vive.

I already (as commented before) tried to close practically any executable and service that is not part of windows, and launch just Steam -> OpenVR -> VorpX -> HL2 (or any mod) and nothing. I closed everything, allthough i know it was working before… nothing. There is one thing i not tried yet … some months ago i changed the HDMI cable for a Display Port one (so i can connect another screen to the hdmi port). My Graphics Card is a RX480, and has 2xDP and 2xHDMI. I start thinking maybe this is happening sice i changed that cable.

I was not playing for some months, but until then i was playing most of the time DoD, Garrys and other mods because it was my favourite Engine for VorpX. In February i tried to play Synergy and since then, i’m not playing with vorpx anymore because of this. Other games are usually too demanding for my computer, or i am too lazy to optimize it like i did with source.

So, this start happening between october 2018 and february, time when there were some Hl2 updates (and Native-Vr Beta removed) also OpenVr updates, and some new Catalyst drivers. I installed and removed various programs in that time, also updated some of them, but i already tried to close them. Also, i rebooted windows removing some services and startup items, to just try this, nothing. So I give up, there are so many things potentially doing this, i’m not just formating or keep auditing my computer for months. Sometimes i get a new idea of what is causing this, i try and is even more frustating than before.

So I’m just sharing this, so you know there are still some users having this trouble and … if anyone has solved this without changing of operating system, please, share with us. Also, please, leave a comment if you are also getting a black screen with Hl2 or other games, so we can reduce the search. I’m pretty sure this is just happening with Windows 7 x64, but also with oculus.

Maybe some day i can fix this, before
    updating my whole computer. Thanks.

I can also confirm rocket league looks amazing on the index at 120hz in vorpx.

The only issue is I have to use expert mode and turn async render off, then on again when in the game to get the full 120fps or it caps at 60. Even if it’s off when I start the game.

This is a recent occurance I have noticed since the recent vorpx updates even before I got the index.

Other than that the overall image is amazing. I could only really notice the 120hz and 144hz when playing smooth locomotion games but man is it nice!

Wait, are you playing from the Microsoft Store? If so that might be your problem. See thread about Sea of Thieves, mentioning store protection blocking vorpX.

I noticed Astroneer was part of Xbox PC game pass so I signed up for $1 to try it out, but I guess my older 1803 windows version won’t let me install this and some other games.

So I installed Ori Definitive instead to test. VorpX wouldn’t even attempt to attach until I acquired rights to the WindowsApps folder to find it’s own version of Ori’s exe. Once I added that to vorpX, it now attempts to attach, but ultimately fails. Now I’m uncertain if it’s a dx12 issue (I don’t know how to check or change with the Store luancher), or if the store DRM is preventing the hook.

Perhaps Ralf can chime in to let us know if any further testing has been done with recent Microsoft Store, or if it is still a no go for vorpX – in which case I would need to cancel my game pass immediately ;) .

I noticed several vorpX games listed on the pass already. Might be a worthwhile investment if it does work with vorpX.

First off, see if you can get any other game to hook so we can rule out anti virus blocking it. Good idea to turn off any recording or monitoring apps like fraps or afterburner etc.

I’ve read that directx 12 is possible in this game, so make sure you’re not running 12 by accident. vorpX hooks to dx11.

The profiles you tried should have at least hooked (even if not 3d) if your vorpX is working correctly, so it’s likely not a profile issue.

There are still a few more official Unreal 4 profiles you can try though: Conarium, Conan Exiles, Vampyr, Edith Finch, and Abzu.

Yeah, i’m curious if Ralf has received his Index yet.

My situation is changing as well. With all the quality problems and unavailability of the HP Reverb, i might get a Valve Index sooner than a Reverb (i’m on the Index waiting list for Sep30, but it seems even some Aug30 guys are being processed for shipping ATM). So i’m following closely all the Index info/reviews around the net, as well as things on this forum.

    Looking forward to hear more.

Is there/will there be Valve index support in the future ? I’m not neccessarily talking about finger tracking support (although I wouldn’t be against it!) Just wanting to know if controller button inputs (it has 20-22 vs console controllers 17) will be mappable?

Also is it possible to get various foot tracking input bound to WASD for directional movement and WA-WD-AS-SD for strafing?

The days of playing our favourite old games in seated 3DOF VR may soon be over with this implemented! Even if foot trackingh support comes later, we can always move with joysticks, although that can be very nausea inducing. Not really much different to locomotion with a keyboard and in Vorpx.
