    Hello

Sorry my english, but it’s not my native language.

I’m where to ask if any body have tried to play Skyrim (the original 32 bit version, aka Oldrim) in VR with the FOV set to 0 (zero). Yes, I know it’s sounds crazy, whem Vorpx sugest to use a FOV of 110 and the Bethesda default FOV for Skyrim 2D is 75 (or is 65?), but I did this experiment a couple of days a go and I’m just loving the image quality improvements.

For me, the screen door effect is much, much less noticeable and NPCs, houses, horses, trees, moutains, anything!, are bigger and much more present, like they were of real size! Now, whem “I” walk in the game’s I fell like I am walking in a real world!

Yes, there is some less field of view, but the loss (for me!) is not dramatic (but the improvements are!). I don’t fell at all the loss of the extra FOV. To say the true, I fell like there is some kind of image distortion (and I hate this!) with high FOV values, especially whem Skyrim is played in a monitor.

I have changed the FOV settings in skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini to 0, to make the FOV change permanent in VR, but if you want to try just for a moments, you just need to get to the console’s game (press the key bellow ESC key) and enter the command “FOV 00” (without the quotes). To reverse this just enter the command FOV 110.

You can also try the field of view with any other number. I tried first with 90 and I liked. Them, I tried with lower numbers (75, 60, 40 and 10) and I always liked even more, so I ended with the FOV at zero! A friend of mine, who also plays Skyrim, cames to my house to try the game again in VR and he said that he also like much more the VR experience with the field of view set to zero.

And I must said that with last Vorpx version (17.3.2), last Steam VR version (it upgrades yesterday, i think) and some others tweaks in VorpX (I think is supersampling set to 2 and sharpness set to 1,75), the VR experience with HTC Vive now makes really worth the money I paid for!

Disadvantages? The only disadvantage I found is that, because things are bigger and more present, you will notice more easily any delay in image movement, especially when you use higher resolutions with the inevitable lower frames per second (I’m using 1600×1200 in a GTX 980 ti). However, I didn’t find any change in the FPS numbers with FOV set to 110 or set to 0.

Warning 1 – If you, like me, use Mod Organizer to play Skyrim and want to make a new FOV value change permanent, you must change skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini inside Mod Organizer. To change only skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini in your Documents Skyrim folder’s game it’s not enough.

Warning 2 – You should always make a backup of skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini before change this files!

Warning 3 – If you are prone to VR sickness, maybe to use a FOV’s value to low it’s not a very good idea, especially with FPS per lent bellow 45. You should try first with carefull!

    Hello,

first off, thanks for great software.

I’m currently playing Skyrim SE with VorpX and have some problems with Positional VR and smithing. When player activates the forge or tempering grinding stone, game seems to move player to another spot. However, this spot is usually off the map or inside the walls.

One solution is to turn Positional VR (or Direct VR) off temporarily while you do crafting. However, there are two problems:
    1) there is no hotkey for Positional VR
    2) I can’t rebind Direct VR hotkey to VorpX Shift+middle mouse quick menu

If I try to set the hotkey for quick menu key bind looks like: A|B which I assume is Alt+B. Shortcut does not activate anything so I assume it’s read only by Skyrim.

Is there any chance to add hotkey for Positional VR which is possible to set up for VorpX quick menu?

I made a video which shows the problem:

    * 00:11 Positional VR on. Using crafting table pushes player character inside the walls/ground.
    * 01:20 Positional VR off. You can rotate around the tanning rack but this is ok as character does not get stuck.
    * 01:43 Direct VR off. Crafting works normally.

    Hi Ralf,

While I continue fresh installing games from Steam, Origin etc. , I am afraid I found another issue:

COD Black Ops 3 does not start with VorpX enabled.
When I kill the Vorpx driver, COD starts normally.

When I start COD BO3 from inside steam, I see briefly a status “running” of the game (in the steam interface) but no game window opens.
A few seconds later, the “running” status goes away.

I also don’t see the “Vorpx is attaching…” dialog. (strange, because in the Vorpx logs it says its hooking)

Directly clicking the BO3 shortcut on my desktop produces the same results.

Note: I keep my Windows 10 pro as standard as possible; only legal software/games from, Steam etc.
I use windows defender and not some paranoid virus scanner like bit defender. (will do that later as soon as everything works, so I know what’s causing issues :)

Additional info that is missing in the troubleshoot zip files:
I use RIFT software 1.20. (Not using the Core 2.0 beta, too unstable)

I already emailed you the troubleshoot zip file.

    Best Regards,
    Bluepill

The crashes inside the menu are continuous and make the game unusable. Often the crashes oblige the restart of the PC, in some cases more fortunate you close the game and you have to reopen it. Unfortunately, playing like this is a continuous defeat.

I use this game in z-adaptive mode e immersive mode.

im surprised that there are not a profile for the SC ARENA COMMANDER that is a mode
inside SC that plays excellent in flat monitors.
the SC Universe is unplayable for vr for now it plays 20-30 fps in monitors with stutter so not big deal.
but the arena commander if there was a profile that should very playable

Ralf: firstly, take a break for now for the Christmas season. When you’re well rested…maybe you have some suggestions concerning this. I’m not sure if I’m the only one but I have never been able to get the Metro 2033 series of games running properly in vorpx…ever. Even the latest 17.3.0 still doesn’t work for my installation.

I’ve done a clean steam install of Last light and for the life of me cannot get it to look right. It’s definitely something to do with the FOV, but I was expecting 17.3.0 to take care of that. Also, since the new update…Metro 2033 redux just crashes part way through the beginning when it takes you through the tunnel before it gets to the end where you select to start, continue game or set options.

In Last light everything looks warped and un-natural when inside the game using full VR. As vorpx writes it’s own configuration to each game. Could it be that the config files aren’t getting written to the game in this instance? Stumped. Suggestions? No rush though.

Satya: Glad you got things working. I have set up a number of custom resolutions through the Nvidia control panel. I then can access them in the Skyrim startup config panel…but only after unchecking ‘windowed mode’. I also have tweaked all the advanced settings in the Skyrim startup config panel for running in 4k (2880×2160) to give the best performance trade off to visual. Also, like Ralf mentioned…you need to turn off voprx control of resolutions inside vorpx to use custom resolutions.

Update for 4k (2880×2160): As I am able to get consistent 90fps in 4k, G3D…I do still get a dip in fps when entering a city from a forest or mountain…it also depends on the direction I am going. When in a city…I can be going one direction and get 90fps…then the opposite direction gets me 70-80fps or less. It’s only noticeable during the decline in fps. VR amplifies this so much more than 2D…I guess that’s why it’s not so noticeable on a 2D monitor. I have for now gone back to z-buffer for playing in 4k, as I don’t get any dips in fps from 90fps in Skyrim 4k at all…anywhere, with my custom settings. I also play without any AA enabled for the best performance. Even going from Vorpx max 1680p setting to custom 2160p makes a noticeable difference in clarity.

Ralf: thanks again for the work you have done in this update. Z-buffer looks much better now…I can now have a higher 3D strength setting than I use to have without things looking like their doubled for the most part. It’s a good enough sacrifice visually from G3D to warrant the huge boost in performance…though G3D is greatly more defined visually. I guess it may be the next Nvidia 2080Ti that will allow 4k 90fps everywhere in G3D ;D. I do suspect it’s Skyrim’s engine that’s causing the dip in fps in different directions though…and 4k VR pushing the brute force of the 1080Ti to the limit. It’s truly incredible to be able to do this in a game that’s not designed for VR at all. Great job!!

In reply to: Crash in VorpX Config

The Game Settings Optimizer is now part of the core app. The video below explains the basic. Sounds like the crash you see happens when vorpX tries to retrieve info from the profile database.

Please try the following steps and let me know whether or not that helped:

    1. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Animation Labs
    2. Rename (don’t delete) the vorpX folder inside that folder.
    3. Reinstall vorpX.

‘Show Hidden Files’ has to be enabled in the Windows Explorer options to see the ProgramData folder

If that solves the issue, it would be great if you could make a ZIP from the original vorpX folder in ProgramData and send that to support |at| vorpx com. That would allow me to investigate the crash.

And here’s the video about the new (almost invisible) optimizer:

    Hello,
I’ve spent around 12 hours since purchasing VorpX just fiddling with the VorpX settings. This is because none of the games I want to play in VR work.

    I have tried so far:
    – Vanilla Skyrim
    – Skyrim SE (I uninstalled vanilla to see if SE would work, it did not)
    – Fallout 3
    – Fallout 4
    – Portal 2

Most of these titles should automatically open up in VR and run fairly well, providing you follow the correct instructions on how to configure. I am using Steam VR with the Vive.

However, I have followed instructions for each game, and nothing will open up in VR. I configure the profiles, then optimise them for the game I want to play, then I go to my library and open it up. But when I click ‘play’, the game will only open on my desktop, not inside my Vive.

I don’t know why this is. VorpX should convert these games into my headset, but it is not. If I am missing a step, which one is that?

I’ve spent so long trying to get games to work, somebody please tell me what I’m doing wrong here.

    Thank you.

@ dborosev: If you like platformers, get Ori and the Blind Forest. You’re in for a treat. This game looks absolutely stunning in 3D right in front of you, which alone was enough to make me play quite a while longer than I had to for creating the profile although I rarely play platformers normally.

My personal ‘insider tip’ for this release. Of course finding something beautiful or not is always a quite subjective matter, so maybe check a video or two first.

On top of the amazing first person games like FC:Primal, Prey, etc, I can’t wait to try the 3rd person games. “Inside” in G3D. Thats gonna look crazy good! On sale on steam now too for 50% off.
And Elex! And Witcher 3 G3D! Nice.
I just have to say it again. VorpX kicks serious ass.

(PS: thanks for getting out a list before the steam sale btw!!!)
