    hey slonaker,
i´ve tried to play eso with dk2, too.
It never worked for me but i think its because i tried it just with .9 only… i hope there will be a fix soon or maybe a step by step guide to solve this.

    Hi everyone,
First I’d like to congratulate Ralph for this amazing software. Specially now that Vorpx 9 is out (and Extend mode is finally gone!)

I’m just having problems with Quake, and I wonder if someone has any info on this (maybe someone in this forum already played Quake with Vorpx)

I checked the “Game Compatibilaty Page”: https://www.vorpx.com/supported-games/
And apparently Vorpx supports Quake, but it says “Quake with DX9 mod”

But I’m not sure what mod is that… There’s a post where Ralph tells someone to use “DXQuake”,
    here: https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/vorpx-pre-release-thread/#post-176

But I guess that was a mistake, because “DXQuake” is a DirectX 8 version of Quake, and Vorpx …

Anyway, if there’s no Directx9 version: I do have the OpenGL version of Quake, but it doesn’t work properly (one of the Oculus lenses is always red, Vorpx even shows a message that says “recommended resolution: 1920×1080”, But I already changed the resolution to that (Vorpx even shows that I am using the 1920×1080 resolution already, but it stills recommend 1920×1080)

Another alternative is buying Quake on Steam. But I don’t know if it works with Vorpx…

    So, I have 3 options:
1-Find the correct DX9 versions of Quake
2-Make the OpenGL version I already have work properly
3-Buy the updated game on Steam

I’m OK with any of them, I just want to know if anyone can help me make the game work properly (If not, then can someone confirm that the Steam version works with Vorpx 9?)

    Thank you!

I have the weirdest problem ever. I used vorpx for a few days to watch videos and play Far Cry 3 without problems (except the hooking prob in 64bit MPC). But since yesterday there’s nothing displayed in the DK2 except the Health Warning at the Start! Everything is clearly getting hooked, the Blue Light is turned on and the Health Warning is shown. But nothing else! And it doesn’t matter if videos or games, it just stays black. It’s driving me crazy because I know this is hard to believe. I had absolutely NO system changes (Win7 64bit, Geforce 970 latest Drivers) and the DK2 works fine with everything else (Demo Scene, other Stuff). I’m totally stumped here…please help anybody!

LOL – just realised we are having this exact discussion on reddit.

*Ralf – Windows 10, so I am stuck with .7 or .8 – the older versions (below .7) give me a boot loop and just don’t work with windows 10.

I know some people have had luck with getting it work but not me (this could be because I did not perform an upgrade and did a fresh install).

I rolled it back to .7 still same problems as .8.

with the DK2 – I have not had any problems whatsoever, same hardware in both machines. AMD 15.10 beta drivers on both – the only difference is the RAM.

have swapped both over and tested both but yeah same problem happening on DK1 – just a hea

*Castane – I have had a look at the Netserver.cfg – it looks like this.

    { “LoggingMask”: 256, “RSWakeupMins”: 5, “DebugHMDType”: 3, “DK1LensSeparationOverride”: 0, “LowerReportIntervalWhileIdle”: true, “DK2LensSeparationOverride”: 0, “HASWLastDisplayedTime:default”: 1445138985, “HardwareCollectionLevel”: 65535, “AllowFirmwareMismatch”: false }

I have heard some people setting theirs back to Zero has fixed or alleviated the issue (myself I have not changed it).

I think I found his main problem right here:
    “Windows 10 user.”

So yeah sounds like Windows 10 basically sucks. Ouch. Switch to Windows 7 and live happy.

agreed, i switched like an idiot, im going back to win 7 for now. and from what i have read game frame rates are slightly less in win 10.

    @sleepings
. what specs are your pc?

have you had any trouble before the oculus updates? aswell as vorpx update?

and to say “Waste of money, unprofessional company.” dude you spend your money yourself. you cannot blame Ralf for that. HE (the company) has produced a piece of software that to me at least has made the oculus worth using at all.

£300 for a headset with imo a crap load of crap demos that last all of five minutes. less than a handfull of games that are native and then there is vorpx with countless games from 1066 to 2015 that run flawlessly.

Ralf is a one man (vr god) operation that works very hard every day developing the only program of its cailber. he answers forum posts contantly. and receives peoples ignorance because they cannot set up their hardware properly.
you bought a development kit that requires quite some messing around to get working and you are complaining like a noob consumer about a program that needs just as much setting up to get working.
disabling unessential programs does not prove its vorpx fault, it could still be the oculus runtime, or your graphics drivers.

It’s strange… Everyone says about performance improvements since update, while I have severe performance impact. I have GTX960, 8GB DRAM. For example, Crysis 3 runs up to 100 fps on High settings without VorpX, and I had just about 20-30% performance impact while using VorpX 0.8.0.1 with Oculus Runtime 0.6.0.1 (Extended Mode). But after update the game runs just on ~15-20 FPS, and even lowering graphics settings to lowest doesn’t help at all! It seems that main problem is Geometry 3D mode: after I’ve switched it off to Z-buffer, performance got up to 30FPS on high settings and started to react to changing graphic settings adequately. What’s worse, same issue remains even with pretty old games with Geometry-3D support, like Mirror’s Edge: prior to 0.9.0 update the game used to run extremely fast: 120 FPS and higher with Geometry-3D activated, but now it runs 20-30 FPS only. Async Rendering set on “half” helps though, but it still doesn’t give even 75 FPS except disabling Geometry-3D which bumps it to 150+ FPS. I’ve tried Oculus Runtime 0.6.0, 0.7.0 and 0.8.0.0, updated NVidia driver to 358.78, tried to recover it back to official stable 358.50 – and I can confidently say that’s not the cause.

Sounds good. I’ve just looked up a youtube video of vorpx 0.9 with GTA V. He’s playing the game in virtual cinema mode. That wouldn’t suit me at all. Virtual cinema great for watching movies though. Seems there are issues at the moment with GTA V and vorpx .9? I mean if u want to run it directly in stereoscopic 3d. It’s not too much of an issue since I don’t actually own GTA V yet but since it’s on the list of compatible games one would reasonably expect it to work in full 3d. I must say I have no interest in playing any games in 2d with Oculus. I know some people are because I’ve read comments here and there. I have zero interest if it’s not in stereoscopic 3d on Oculus.

There’s no easy way to go about. That being said its not hard it just takes some time and trial and error to get set up how you like it. Skyrim is fairly easy out of the box because there isn’t a ton of buttons to map.

VorpX has a new gamepad set up but I haven’t messed with it yet. It could be good I just don’t know.. What you should do is get joy 2 key. It’s easy to use and is free…

You just need to map mouse and keyboard to the game pad. Is it easy, yes, is it time consuming, yes, does it work? yes for over 200 hours just on Skyrim lol

If your a gamepad guy like me you just have to face facts. PC isn’t as easy to just plug and play with controllers, but you do have a lot of options as far as customizing layouts.

Its frustrating the first time you have to map controlls but its part of it so it is what it is, get used to it, then its easy.. Also try to map vorpx edge peek and cam recenter to buttons as well..

OMG.. just swap around some runtimes, in the time it took to wet your panties you could of been finished rolling back and ready to play with your new stuff. ERMA_GURD

P.S. for Ralph: If you could get 3D openGL support I would buy another license just because. With openGL, we could play the 2 new Wolfenstein games, SOMA, the Amnesia series games probably a lot of others but those would be worth the price of admission alone.

Mad max is not supported by vorpx right now and thus has no 3d profile.
You can try to rename the mad max exe to justcause2.exe, that would force the just cause 2 profile and might enable 3d.
But the profile is not optimised for mad max, so it might not look perfect, or work at all.

I’m using Garry’s mod but between the Oculus 6.0 runtime being screwed up, downgrading to 5, reinstalling Vorpx a few times, but I can’t get it to engage. It DOES ask windows permission to use vorp control to modify the hard drive and I hit YES. I start steam as admin, vorpx as admin, the game shortcut as admin but it never engages. The resolution is screwed up (like when looking at desktop with oculus) and DEL doesn’t bring up the game menu. (I really think vorpx just isn’t launching alongside the game even though the icon is really there (and I doublecheck to make sure I get the “vorpx is already running” message.

Thoughts? Should I try downgrading to 4.1. runtime? I had success then. Or is it possible that STEAM VR is screwing up something. (Anarchy Arcade doesn’t work anymore VR wise )

EDIT: I should mention, a game like Just Cause 2 comes up and works just fine it seems.

I’ve got a DK2, and everything that supports it natively outside of VorpX is working fine.

I’ve bought and installed the latest version of VorpX, and… it does nothing. I’ve followed all the setup guides, confirmed VorpX is actually running, disabled and unplugged everything I’m not using, quit all programs, disabled AV, turned off steam overlay, made links, tried primary and non-primary, and any number of other things I’ve found posted about.

I’ve tried it in a dozen odd games – they all just render as normal in 1080p and pressing del does absolutely nothing. Nothing is logged by the service into the event logs.

I’m using Windows 8.1 Pro (x64). I do have 2 x GTX 780 Ti in SLI, but have currently unplugged all of the extra monitors except for my main, and disabled SLI in the GeForce control panel. I haven’t gone as far as to physically remove the extra graphics card from the PC.

(As an aside, if I set VorpX to run as an administrator in the options, it crashes immediately with a 0xc0000005 exception code.)

It picks up the DK2 correctly as it alerts if you’re in direct mode etc, and it’s definitely attempting to hook into the dlls, because when I have it running, Outlook 2013 (which uses DirectX) crashes immediately on launch..

    Please, any ideas?

This is a general issue with 3d drivers in some games. Depends on how shadows are done program wise. Shadows often are rendered in a different way and can’t be “stereofied” as good as the rest of the scene. It’s often tolerable with approx. real world stereo 3d strength, but the higher the separation is set the more evident this gets.

The solution in those cases is to either disable shadows (often possible on the display page of the vorpX ingame menu with the latest vorpX version) or switch to Z-Buffer 3D, which does not show this behaviour by design.

BTW1: You probably do that because you like the maximized stereo 3d, but separation settings much higher than 1.0 aren’t really desirable if you want to achieve realistic stereo 3d. More is not better here. The default of 1.0 is dialed in so that it roughly gives you a stereo 3d strength that is comparable to what you see in the real world. Might not be perfect in every game, but is very close in most cases. Nothing wrong with higher values if you like that, of course, it’s just not realistic.

BTW2: The focal point setting is there as an expert setting for those who like to experiment, but should be left alone normally. The default is the correct value for displaying stereo 3d on a VR headset.

I completely agree with this review, it points out the key pros and cons of Vorpx. Also, in a sea of complaints there should be some positive reviews coming from satisfied users. Fortunately, I encountered only one issue with VorpX where it didn’t hook to Metro Last Light but the problem got solved easily with Metro LL Redux version. Except that, all the games ran flawlessly, I finished BF3, BF4, Metro series and Stalker series so far. It has been my dream to be able to play Stalker Misery mod in VR and VorpX made that dream come true. So I have nothing but respect for Ralf and his creation.

Initially I didn’t wanted to give money for a 3-rd party driver so I tried the free Vireio Perception which does a pretty good job for a few games, but has VR boost and user interface issues, frame counter impacts performance heavily etc. But all that only works on nVidia GPUs, I’m an AMD Radeon user and almost every supported game doesn’t hook in VR properly or has severe issues after level or savegame loading. Vireio developers said on reddit that they all have nVidia GPUs and will optimize for AMD in the future. So I had no other choice for playing great non-VR games in VR, other than VorpX. So after days of reading long reviews and watching youtube videos, I decided to purchase VorpX and after 2 months of daily VR gaming my conclusion is: damn was it worth it !

It has a very well made Windows and in-game interface with lots of useful options to set the best possible VR image. And after doing that a few times, it gets very easy and the user can port those settings from one game to the next, making only a few modifications to fine tune the experience. If the VR image is set properly, with best calibration, FOV, aspect ratio, head tracking sensitivity, edge peek screen distance etc, you can obtain a very immersive experience that is way better than playing the game on 2D displays. Most of the games I played were in Z-buffer mode which is a “less 3D” way of experiencing a game, but still 3D enough to perceive the spatial depth of objects. Generally this is the way most games are played in VorpX because only a few are compatible with Geometry 3D. Of course, Geometry 3D is the best way to go, total immersion, feels like a native VR game, but has a higher impact on performance which might be a problem if it’s a demanding next gen game and the GPU and system are not very strong. If you have a high end system, Geometry 3D will not decrease performance in most cases.

If you don’t have an issue with playing a game with mouse and keyboard or controller on DK2, or if you get used to doing that, I see no problem with playing games using VorpX, it feels very professional, the interface doesn’t miss any needed option, it’s easy and intuitive, it is very stable and if the user is lucky enough not to encounter the issues I sometimes read on this forum, then it is worth the price in my opinion, seeing how many AAA games will you be able to play in VR. The only small inconvenience I had throughout these 2 months of VR gameplay was the fact that not all games can be set to move the HUD elements towards the center of the display in order to be visible in DK2 and some games like Fallout 3, Skyrim or Stalker series which have RPG elements (inventory, map, dialogue interface etc) are displaying them in fullscreen which can’t be entirely visualized in VR. In order to bypass this issue, you click the middle mouse (scroll) button to enter Edge Peek mode to view the whole screen like a projection in front of you and look in the corners of the screen using head tracking. And if the text descriptions are too small or some objects are not clearly visible, you can decrease/increase the distance between the Edge Peek screen and your face (Expert options must be enabled). After a few days of use I adjusted to this method just fine, it comes naturally now, so I guess it’s not such a major issue.

In conclusion, if you love VR gaming and can tolerate DK2’s screen door effect, VorpX is the best solution to this date. All it takes is a few tweaks and settings, occasionally using an external FOV tool like Flawless Widescreen and you’re all set. The issues that some users are having with VorpX are generally caused by other software products that interfere/prevent VorpX to function properly or incorrect setup of DK2/games/VorpX. Best way of making a decision is to read as many user experiences and reviews as possible. I for one, am completely satisfied, as it made possible playing my favorite games in VR in a much better way than initially expected. Fully recommended 10/10, kudos to Ralf and any other parties involved in making VorpX.

For me, I found out the following things to provide a solution for this problem with Metro 2033:

The game has a max FOV setting of 90 – this is just about sufficient for a playable experience.
Any setting outside of the maximum range will cause it to default at 50.675
To change this setting you must edit “C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\4A Games\Metro 2033\<possible-generated-hex-number>\user.cfg” (Other installations may vary in location)
Modify so that “r_base_fov” has value 90.
    Start game and enjoy (hopefully).
