adzterParticipant“I still wonder what makes people so hooked with those multiplayer-only titles”
Well, I mostly play multiplayer titles exclusively. I think I’ve finished 3 single player games in my whole life.
To each their own, of course. But I’ve always leaned towards a ‘quick fix’ game.
I like COD/Halo etc. because they’re five minute matches, and you know who won and then you do it again. It helps that I have a group of around a dozen of us that have gotten together for lan nights since way back when we had 2 xboxes and 2 projectors and would play 4v4 system link. We eventually all got our own consoles and online meant we could play more. So when you have a team of guys online regularly, it’s a fun, competitive vibe.As far as Battle Royale goes… I friggin love it. It’s so challenging, so when you win, it’s a buzz. I loved Fortnite when it first came out. But then, it was controller players only. No bots. And no ‘quick build’ setup on the controller. So people only built basic ramps etc for some cover.
Now you’re cross-playing pc players on kb/mouse, and it’s anything but a straight up gunfight. I’m not interested in having a ‘build a battle’.I thought Blackout (the first Call Of Duty Battle Royale) was awesome. We played it exclusively (ie. didn’t touch the team death match modes for the first time ever). But again, it was fair. Console only.
I can’t stand Warzone, though. This obsession with crossplay has ruined console games. I have to play against people with a faster, more accurate input method. And to combat that, suddenly my aim assist (which used to be just that) feels like it’s aiming for me half the time. Not to mention it’s the first time ever in the history of console I’ve ever encountered cheaters.
Whereas Apex Legends is my go to for BR now. You’re only matched with console players. The aim assist is subtle. The time to kill is long, so you actually have a proper exchange in a gunfight. So, yeah… some people love to jump on with pals and play to compete. We play everything though. Racing games. Rocket League. Sports. Old school games like Bomberman and Worms. Whatever gets you screaming at each other. :)
But 3d and VR definitely has definitely got me playing more single player stuff. Just coz it’s so immersive, though. I’d love to, and probably prefer be able to play against pals in VR, or even just in 3D on a virtual cinema screen. It’s a shame most of them won’t work because of anti cheat.

adzterParticipantJust an FYI on this one, Ralf
The new update seemed to (almost) fix this (F1 19… not sure about F1 20)
The problem myself and others had where the fps would drop dramatically in G3D (ie. 5-10fps) is gone, so long as I don’t use ‘direct mode async render=off’. (async off makes it slow to a crawl of 5fps or thereabouts).
There is still something funny going on with the sync to the Reverb G2 though. Because it ‘feels’ like a low frame rate even though it’s not. No matter how much I lower all the settings and resolution, I get a sort of double vision when anything’s moving. And it’s consistently like this at all resolutions and settings.

RalfKeymasterHey guys,
Since this topic seems to be fairly interesting for a lot of regulars, first let me say thanks for your continued support over the years! For those who weren’t around that early: vorpX was born practically together with the very first Oculus Rift devkit 2012/13 when the worldwide VR gaming community consisted of a few hundred do-it-yourselfers. I actually still have a taped together self-built prototype stashed away in a drawer somewhere. Back then I considered vorpX to become obsolete one way or the other within a few years, either because VR would vanish into oblivion again or noone would be interested in vorpX anymore. Yet here we are, it’s 2021 and vorpX is still around. Wouldn’t have been possible without you!
If you feel you got enough enjoyment out of vorpX that some extra payment might make sense, the easiest way would be buying another copy. Doing that every other year or so, maybe when you upgrade your PC, would be totally awesome. Entirely without having to pay for some sort of subscription, and – equally important – without causing additional work for me, like e.g. a Patreon would.
Or just do what you ever did: have fun and spread the word!

adzterParticipantHey Ralf…
I know you’re hard at work on the WMR update (which I’m so pumped about, I keep checking if it’s up every few hours even though I know you said end of the week!)
But if you could have another look at this one, it would be much appreciated.
I ended up buying it on Steam even though I had it on the MS store. Mostly because of the workshop tracks etc… but also because I foolishly thought maybe it was the fact it was on the MS store that the 3d might not have been working. It’s just such a phenomenal game.
Anyway… here’s hoping it can get working in 3d on Vorpx again at some point in the future.Apr 13, 2021 at 9:28pm #201850
LaserParticipantwhich I believe is coming in about 8 months, to force every Oculus Rift user to have an active Facebook Account.
I don´t know where you got that number but you should have way more time than that.
“If you’re an existing user and choose not to merge your accounts, you can continue using your Oculus account for two years.
After January 1, 2023, we will end support for Oculus accounts. If you choose not to merge your accounts at that time, you can continue using your device, but full functionality will require a Facebook account. ”
So you still have 1,5 years of full functionality and even after that it won´t brick itself just because you link it with facebook account.
I already left the facebook camp for Reverb, I gave my old to a family member and that unit won´t be used with vorpx anymore. Stopped buying anything from oculus store so I don´t miss anything even if I can´t use my library after 2023.
And since CV1 has been an EOL product for a while I don´t think there will be any driver updates.

tauronuxParticipantAfter the first scan is done and the game is restarted (and the settings are saved in the CFG file) i tend to turn off the option to let VorpX to change some/all game settings as i want to keep my custom resolution and in some cases the FOV. In case of Metro 2033 that means, i have to do the scan every time i start the game or reload a checkpoint to get the head tracking working but i don’t mind doing that.
I’ll try to change the controller type next time. Thanks for the tip.
I noticed that i like to play the Metro games with controller mostly because WSAD keyboard controls are just too quick while the precise slow movement with controller sticks are perfect for this series. I like to go slowly and enjoy everything around.
One question though – when i change the type of WMR controller to Gamepad instead of KM+Mouse i’m not able to change the bindings. I would like to change mostly the controls in SHIFT mode (btw. thank you for implementing that). For example i would like to hold my SHIFT button and assign my left or right stick functions, that are assigned to the directional pad on XBOX controller. It’s possible to do that with WMR controllers set to KB+ mouse (obviously), but in this mode, the left stick works like a button instead of axis, which i don’t like that much.
Would it be possible to change the bindigs for gamepad settings of WMR controllers in the future?

thomas3dParticipantHello dellrifter,
I tried different servers last night … empty and with a few players … everything worked very well …
Could be that I uninstalled this anticheat in Steam … don’t know exactly because the day before I tried to get the game to run with Reshade Depht3D … which worked, but without any noteworthy 3D effect … against 0 …
But at the same time I tried “Outriders-Demo” … to run … VorpX no chance … Reshade D3D also stayed flat … it could also be that this game had something with Anticheat … which I did then uninstalled it from Steam … don’t remember exactly … but maybe it has something to do with it …Good luck with testing … for me it worked with the Ark G3D profile …
Unfortunately there is no single player but there are NPCs … if it didn’t look so great in 3D VR with the Pimax 8KX, I would have given it back …
Just the great 3D
Animations of the dinosaurs while sneaking and quickly running through the rich flora and fauna is worth the money …I had everything on low with my 2080Ti … still looked very good at 2880×1620 and smooth … I have to test 1440p with more graphic details …
greeting

Michelangel0ParticipantJust checked Hellblade, What Remains of Edith Finch and Mordhau for you with the currently released vorpX version. No problems with these games, so the profiles are OK. I can only assume that there have been some changes to Remnant of the Ashes, that invalidated the existing user profiles as well as making the game fail with other UE4 profiles. Can’t really say anything more specific though since I never tried the game.
Apart from that a full factory reset might be worth a try, just in case some settings changes you made caused the issue. You can do a factory reset in the config app under trouble shooting. That’s a bit of a long shot though in this case.
On a sidenote: if you have a soft spot for sad stories (and don’t despise ‘walking simulators’), What Remains of Edith Finch is well worth the 2-3 hours it takes.
ahhh hahahh no thanks. Indeed Walking Simulators are boring for me. Thanks anyway..
I didn’t understood what you tested, I wasn’t interested on those games but in Remnant from the Ashes heheheh
What a shame, Remnant from the Ashes was fantastic in G3D. :*(

tauronuxParticipantEven if you’ll still encounter the framerate dips into the 30 range after the update, that will feel a lot better.
Interesting and really good news. I’ve played some more and i find it pretty playable. I even pushed the graphics settings higher now so i’m eager to see what happens :))
One question though. I’m also playing Deep Rock Galactic and i have 45/45 FPS according to the VorpX counter. But it really is so smooth, that it feels like i’m playing at 60 or even 90 FPS. So you’re right. But i was not able to reproduce that in Metro Redux. If i’m right, i followed same procedure while setting up VorpX, but my framerates were 45/90 which felt absolutely not smooth. After turning off the FluidSync and Async, i have the same framerates in-game and in the headset, but wildly jumping between 50-80 most of the time, occasionaly dropping to 30. I’ll have to check my Deep Rock Galactic settings and try it i guess.
@Zloba: thanks a lot for your reply, you gave me very useful info!
@Ralf: with the new release of Vorpx do we need to download OpenXR dev tool or we need just to prompt WMR as OpenXR (which I already have)?Thank you and have a good job!
No problem mate. After i found the thing with Advanced Physics, i’m thinking about reinstalling the original. There was also an Advanced PhysX setting which could cause the stuttering. And i played the game when it was released and i remember how it left me in awe, as it absolutely nailed the atmosphere and visuals that i was imagining while reading the book prior to playing the game. Redux version on the other hand feels like it lost some of the charm. Maybe it’s the lightning, the color scheme, or the changed music … but it feels totally different compared to the original.
And i’m also curious about the OpenXR. Today i clicked on “Fix It” after the message poped up in WMR portal (something about it not being set up for OpenXR), and after that i just got a message “Done, you’re good to go”. So is it really everything that needs to be done? I read on some Microsoft website that OpenXR does install automatically nowadays. But i also read about the developer tools.

tauronuxParticipantJust after i posted the last post, the game started to crash like hell (on the level where you meet Khan). So i had to play with the settings again and i think i found the cause for the crashes. I turned off Advanced PhysX in the Game options and i could play for a nice hour without a crash. I’ve immediately switched to G3D and i’m amazed. It’s like night and day. Performance is not good, 30-70 FPS depending on the scene. Will see how it goes. I’ll stay in G3D if it’s playable during shootouts as it’s really amazing.
@Ralf do i have to wait until the next version of VorpX to try OpenXR? Also when i launch Mixed Reality Portal, a message pops up, that i don§t have it setup for OpenXR and that some applications could have problems. I didn§t pay attention to it as i always use SteamVR. Should i look into it before i try to play in OpenXR?
Mar 29, 2021 at 8:16pm #201527In reply to: Bad performance with Metro 2033 Redux + Rev G2
tauronuxParticipantMetro games are very weird ones on VorpX. I spent last few days trying the original and also the Redux version, just playing with game settings and VorpX settings, playing the short intro every time to compare the performance.
I was able to run the original in G3D with nice performance but once i got to the end of the intro, the game lagged like hell no matter what settings i used. Redux on the other hand was crashing every few minutes so i decided to stay with the original, but in Z3D. I had everything set up perfectly, getting 80-90 FPS @1080p, but the game lagged every 5-10 seconds so badly that it was game breaking and unplayable for me. It was like i was loosing frames every few seconds, i don’t know. And the problem prevailed no matter what settings i changed.
So i went back to Redux and found out that having the graphics preset above Medium caused the game to crash. Playing with G3D crashed the game too often also. So i switched to Z3D and now it’s buttery smooth and the game still crashes, but maybe every 30 minutes or so. I had a 90min session yesterday so i’m happy.
Btw. my specs – i5 6600, 16GB RAM, GTX1060, Win10, SSD .. so you should be fine with Z3D at least. Also one thing i find helpfull before i try to set a game with VorpX – i try playing with graphics settings, so my flat-monitor performance don’t drop below 100. If it can stay above 120, then great. This way i’m almost always able to get 80-90 FPS with VorpX. But i also turn off the Asynchronous rendering. For me it doesn’t feel smoother to have the game at 45 and HS at 90. So i turn off 2 of the options which affects that and there’s also 3rd one which i set to Faster or Safe depending which one is moother (sorry, but i can’t recall the names of the options and submenus right now. But it’s easy to find).
Edit:
I forgot to mention that i also own G2Mar 29, 2021 at 8:44am #201518
ToxicMikeParticipantHmm, so maybe bigscreen improved a bit since I tried it. I stopped using it altogether after they started geo-blocking all content.
They actually just fixed the mess they caused with the patch before, coz it was crashing far more than before and actually everytime you put off your goggles for a few minutes.
In vorpX Cinema mode you can adjust the distance to the screen but not it’s size. A closer screen take up more of your FOV but might not give the impression of a big screen.
A closer (big)screen for example, is something completely awful (almost “blurry”) looking with bigscreen beta, at least until you shrink the size of it down so far until it looks sharper again, but then the size of it ain´t really what i understand as “big” let alone “cinema”. With vorpX you can touch the screen with your virtual nose and it still looks crips sharp.
Personally I find the default screen size to be OK. I generally use cinema for top-down or side-scroller games which are usually called 2.5D, whereas for first/third person games I use immersive.
It depends on my mood, i often use immersive-screen-mode as well for strategy-titles as for third person games because the ambient-light-effect adds alot to the atmosphere, while it can happen i feel like having too much of being surrounded by darkness and ambient light, that´s when i switch to cinema mode.
Certain first person games i also play in immersive screen mode (when they´re not giving me a great feeling in full-vr mode or stutter too much) like GENERATION ZERO, which does a great job at me in 2:35:1 ultra-wide-screen with bending the screen only as much as distortions doesn´t kick in (i also had a great time bending it to the max along with pulling it real close, but distortions can be a pain at times)
Mar 27, 2021 at 6:22pm #201470Topic: Nier Automata Right Eye Black
in forum Technical Support
BrotherKennyHParticipantHi,
I decided to give Nier Automata a go with vorpx.
It took me a while to figure out the AV was blocking Vorpx, but after a while I can get the game to load and hook in just fine.I tried the 3D settings and seem to be unable to play the game with any 3D. On Z-normal and Z-adaptive the screen does not show in 3D. I was wondering if the Geometry option would work, but when I try this I only see the game with the left eye. The right eye is a black screen.
I read on some other games that this was caused by AA being turned on. I have this turned of for Nier and still have the problem.
Any idea what I do to fix this?
On a side note, I also had some trouble with head tracking. I play my games with inverted y axis. I think this game is best played with a controller. The VR headset is just to add immersion and 3D. I think it makes sense to play with the camera control on the analogue stick. However, it would be nice for head tracking to work effectively as well. When the Y-axis is inverted the game also inverts the head tracking y-axis, so looking up becomes down etc. Its not usable unless you change the game back to standard y-axis orientation, but for me standard y-axis makes using the controller difficult. The invert head tracking option in the vorpx menu don’t seem to make a difference.
