Aiming is usually bound to mouse movement with vorpX. There are some exceptions from this rule, most notably Cyberpunk that comes with free VR controller aiming in the latest vorpX 24.1, but those really are exceptions.

Thanks but this aiming isn’t only bound to the mouse’s movement, the aiming can be done purely by head movement – literally without touching the mouse.

Hi, I took a break from vorpx for a while. But recently came back to try when I heard about the newish gesture support. To me this is game changing.

I tried it on two games I thought would be natural: Dishonored and Halo. But couldnt get it working at all. How do you turn it on? I tried in the vorpx menu and add custom gestures of both use or aim. But aiming was still down from my head vs my touch controllers. Is there something that has to be done to set it up that I’m missing?

Or do only some games support gestures?

So I tried ESO with vorpx latest beta in 2024 and it works pretty well. You absolutely must not touch any of the settings related to zoom, aspect or such. Doing so causes the whole screen to move while turning your head so leave that all at default.

For me, moving my head back and forth left and right caught a little bit of stutter in the camera. Changing the headset sensitivity to “latency” (I cant remember if it was on auto or fps) really smoothed this out.

Also, I have a 4090 / 7800x3d but performance wasn’t as smooth as I’d like. You cant use DLSS here or you get some one-eye problems. But you can turn on FSR. I turned on FSR to ultra quality and performance is like butter now!

Too bad we can’t memory scan this one. I assume it’s due to some sort of anti-cheat check?

G2 worked great with vorpX and The Witcher 3. My main problem was that it was not comfortable for my face shape and i needed to live with some pain during usage. Second issue was that something wasn’t quite right with the stereo overlap. I know that Quest 3 has a small(ish) stereo overlap as well, but somehow on the G2 it felt more noticeable, while on Quest 3 i can forget it quickly.

But i loved the resolution, not even Quest 3 can quite get to this level, IMO.

To solve these issues with the G2 :

You can buy a VR cover (I needed it to remove the nose thing) :
“VR Cover Facial Interface & Foam Replacement for HP Reverb G2 V1 & V2” on Amazon

You can also buy a BoboVR M2 strap :
“BOBOVR M2 Plus Head Strap,Compatible with Meta Quest 2” on Amazon
    With a G2 adapter :
    https://www.etsy.com/listing/1079503371/kit-adaptateur-tyco-tech-hp-reverb-g2?variation0=2226421683

This way it’s perfect (I added coins as counter weight at the back, in little plastic tubes, and I added bubble wrap around BoboVR top arms). The G2 doesn’t even touch my face. It doesn’t move. And I can wear it as long as I want.

If needed, there is also counter weights and other straps :
    https://www.studioformcreative.com/reverb-g2
Varjo Aero ones could be better (as there are two weights)

Don’t forget lenses (correction + blue protection) :

I JUST bought the program VorpX out of desperation to try and use my 3d TV. It works AWESOME!!!

I haven’t even tried the VR headset yet… but its already worth it… But I do have a newbie question:

Is there a way to disable the nag screen for Generic 3D (Hit Alt, Control & Shift). It’s kind of a pain in the butt to hitt Alt & Control & Shift every time. I know this sounds silly.. but some games detect me touching the keyboard and than thinks I don’t want to use the controller…

Got an easy idiot proof way to disable this nag screen?

PS: Personally… I humbly think the programmer should just fix whatever tiny bugs exist for Generic 3D because its already awesome and then really promote selling it to a whole new group of folks… I previously used a program called Tridef 3D.. but that software no longer is supported so I tried ForpX out of desperation… From all of the disclaimers saying it isn’t intended for 3D monitors, I really figured it was going to be junk… but from the few games I tried (i.e. Rayman Origins), its friggin’ awesome and I can once again use my 3D tv. :)

I am a determined soul.. must have my Farming Simulator 22 in VR…. After my fourth re-install of vorpX, I finally got everything to work again. Had to setup a new profile and set up all new settings. Took a few hours, but it appears we are back in business for now. I really dislike the “optimize game settings” that vorpX does when the checkmark is not marked in the config options, but there appears to be no way to get things rolling as far as getting “3D Reconstruction: Geometry” to activate in the profile until this is optimized by vorpX a few game start ups. All my in-game keybindings also got reset by vorpX to default, which was really annoying. Eventually I was able to turn off the optimization and setup the graphics exactly how I want it and get vorpX to stop messing with it. Such a fiddly program, but if its what we have to put up with when dealing with non-native vr games, well.. its really the only option for now.

Lesson learned, dont update vorpX to new versions unless you are about to start playing a new game and are no longer using it for another game that is already running perfectly fine as is. Never touch a running system… I always forget this…

In reply to: Reticle too high

The reticle in FullVR mode is never too high, that’s an – albeit understandable – illusion. The reticle is always at the optical center, *BUT* all VR headsets have a neat little optimization to maximize the amount of pixels used where it counts:

The VR camera matrix is vertically asymmetrical, i.e. more pixels are rendered below the eye position than above. That accommodates human vision, which focuses more on things below our eyes than above. Some headsets do that to a greater extent than others, but all do it to a degree.

Since normal games don’t have such an asymmetrical camera but the headset does, depending on vorpX’s ImageZoom setting the screen of your headset may be fully utilized above the eye position, but not below. In other words: while the reticle might not be centered on the screen, it’s in fact still at the center of the camera.

Unless ImageZoom is capped because a game is known to only work with a certain FOV range, you can raise the ImageZoom value to the max to fully utilize the sceen. That comes at a price though: higher ImageZoom means lower pixel density and requires a higher FOV, which costs performance. Defaults are carefully chosen, so better don’t touch these things unless you fully understood the above. Take this hint seriously please.

Confused? Understandable. Still 100% what is happening. Everything working as it should – and has to.

CAVEAT: No rule without exception. In G3D games things may get a bit out of sync if you use vorpX’s camera height modifier. You’d have to actively do that though. So unless you changed the camera height in a G3D game you don’t have to worry about this exception from the rule.

When using full VR, every game I play the reticule is too high. This is really difficult when enemies get close you have literally touch your chin to your chest to aim down. Any ideas how to fix this?

Hello! I’m confused about what the support for BG3 is supposed to do.
My thought was that the game would load in a theater-like screen, with the illusion of depth provided by Z-buffering, but after some hours of setup and testing, all I can get is a VorpX home cinema environment with the game rendered normally.

Using Valve Index + Touch controllers.

    – Gesture editor for rifle aim is not working as expected tried to assign all possible axis — not working, trigger button is possible to assign only for right click, not possible to assign to left trigger gamepad.
    – left handed mode swapping controllers including start button (and this button is preserved for re-centering and activating dash). If you go to update button mapping— there no option to swap that buttons only, and remap to left controller — it gone.(not only beta problem)
    – gamepad emulation is mapping to keyboard buttons, which not always matches game situation, like for Starfield, button up/down/left/right maps to 1/2/3/4 and when you are controlling ship —- it has combination of alt + arrows, so it is safer to have virtual gamepad and map binding through that, virtual controller. Also it would help with on screen hints, because they all shows keyboard keys, but overlay for touch shows xbox buttons.

I used to use Natural Locomotion with JoyCons strapped to my legs. It worked well enough though they didn’t stop on the dime. The problem was, the app doesn’t work with the Oculus driver or OpenXR, and the SteamVR driver is unplayable with VorpX for my setup. Also, you have to use an older version of SteamVR because NatLo support is nonexistent these days. I’m looking for ways to do it on my own maybe using Auto Oculus Touch or the OpneXR Python library, though I would lose the built in VorpX gestures.

I stayed up most the night trying to figure this out.

No idea. I got it to work randomly with running the screen resolution at native 1080p and disabling the integrated gpu then enabling it, but now if I load the game, the perspective is overhead. I saved and exited the game and it was fine. I didn’t touch any settings and now I’m 40ft tall and clipping through geometry and the world is super small under me. The gun is absolutely massive too.

I tried messing with the geometry settings and something is way off. I reset everything and its the same problem.
