Topic: World of Warcraft screen squishes after a while
in forum Technical Support
swattParticipantHi there,
I hadn’t played in a few months until now. Now I have a new video card, WoW has updated, VorpX has updated… now I’m having an issue.
Basically, all works perfectly. Immersive screen mode, full 3D, it’s awesome. But after a while, the screen inside VR just squishes. It looks to be about half width. The mouse cursor is gone. I can still click things, just can’t see the mouse cursor.
If I stay in VR, and switch to Fullscreen mode, it is good again. Then after a while the same happens again. If I then switch back to Windowed mode, it is good again. So both modes work, but not forever, and switching between them fixes it.
Under Advanced in WoW, I’m in DirectX 11 Legacy mode, as I understand it should be. The other choices are DirectX 11, and 12.
Under Graphics in WoW, I have Window Size at 3840×2160, which is my screen resolution. Then under Resolution Scale, I have moved it down to 72% / 2773×1559 so it can render performant in VR. Otherwise, graphics is on 10 / Ultra.
Is there a fix so it doesn’t squish after a while? When it squishes, it shows a lot of moire and looks really terrible.
Thanks!

SephaelParticipantAfter some futher testing, i have 2 questions.
Vehicule cameras; i love the inside view, it’s great, much more comfortable than original :)
Outside view got changed as well but they feel totaly differents; it was not possible to keep the behind the car view ?
Also on motocycle, it’s not possible to driving in TPS, which was one of the only possibility to see our character in the world, so i kinda miss that view :)About scopes, testing differents scopes on differents weapons, ADS behave differently.
For exemple, if i use a sniper scope, looking abover my right shoulder and use ADS, my view will join back 99% the body orientation and get stuck on the scope’s reticule, making it very close to aiming with the mouse vanilla style and i love it.
But guns scopes ADS doesn’t bring back the player vision as much. For exemple, same as the sniper, if i look above my right should, ADS will bring me back to body orientation only 50%, i have to move the other 50% with head aiming and it is a lot of guess works to match the gun’s reticule at first shot.If i had to decompose actions during gameplay it’s :
SNIPER :
->look anywhere
->ADS
->aim with mouse where the reticule is
->target hitGun :
->look anywhere
->ADS
->guess work
->hit testing
->miss
->adjust head to match reticule on last impact
->target hitIs it possible to make gun’s scope to be as efficient as sniper scope with ADS reticule ?

mrbrockParticipantThis is pretty great, its awesome being able to drive around the city inside of the car. Was finding the bumps in the road to aggressively jarring in directvr mode though so I switched it to the z-adaptive which seems to tone that down a bit. The scale gets a little weird on somethings but it also sharpens up some world details that were getting fuzzy.

thetommyboy2002ParticipantSo I uninstalled the mod and went back to using the “pressstart” cloud profile with regular VorpX, and as I recalled I get 60fps @4k with ray tracing enabled, and it looks fantastic.
I guess the 3d reconstruction used (z-normal?) in regular VorpX is better suited to the power of my machine.
Weirdly I tried the other reconstruction methods (z-normal etc) with the mod, but could never get the same performance or image clarity with the mod. Though I may not have tried every possible combo of reconstruction and resolutions.It does seem to “feel” better in the Mod version, but the lower framerate and resolution make me want to stick with the regular VorpX version for now.
A couple of other minor mod issues (when zooming in with a weapon, head movement is reversed on all axes, making aiming a pain, even though I could use the thumbstick to aim. And there is an enormous amount of bloom and blur when driving, like the resolution drops way down or something, and sometimes it is just all bright white outside the car but normal inside).
It is still a fantastic mod and a hell of an achievement, but I think I’ll stick with VorpX 4k 60fps and ray tracing for now… sorry.

RalfKeymasterYes, shadows are fine. G3D is not done on the Direct3D level in this case, but directly ‘inside’ the game engine. That doesn’t come with the usual difficulties in regard to shader glitches. It’s entirely game sepecific though. Walk (or drive) and look direction are fully separate things.
The whole thing is basically vorpX beefed up with an individual Cyberpunk mod portion that adds some functionality vorpX does not provide normally.

dellrifter22ParticipantTry the Delete key on your keyboard. That is the keyboard key to open the vorpX menu.
It’s possible that the profile author that uploaded that Halo profile disabled the menu button for gamepads. It is a setting inside the vorpX menu that allows you to turn off edgepeek and vorpX menu access in the case that you need all of those buttons for gameplay instead.

Lawrence1962ParticipantStandalone is completely without vorpx, probably a zip file to extract into the game folder or an installer which does that. The vorpx features needed by this mod are probably in a *.dll file. VR starts automatically when you launch the game with steam etc. or simply launch the *.exe of the game. This standalone is free for everyone.
But inside vorpx it is just another official vorpx profile. To use this profile you have to buy vorpx.

seb22ParticipantIt’s not bad in cinema mode but it’s clear that a real 3D would be cool: o). We will see, thank you for your answer and your tests !!
I love all these little games like inside, little nightmare, (moss), metroid game and Styx: Master of Shadows ( very good ) … which are played in the third person !!

zhdunParticipantThank you for updating @Ralf, will try it.
About this:
A word of advice: the biggest advantage of G3D is positional tracking. Aside from that for the most part it only is more correct at distances closer than a meter or so to the camera, at least when dialed in realistically. So if you play seated and thus might not really need 6DOF tracking, think twice whether the G3D performance impact is worth it for you. Might make more sense to let your brain adapt to how Z3D looks at close range instead. Shouldn’t take too long.
I see your point, and I can agree to certain point. It strongly depends on the way you playing it. There are casual players who prefer playing it mostly using the orbit camera looking at the machines from the outside and not really needing 6DOF. And then there are players who are taking the term “simulator” literally and playing it mostly (if not always) using the inside cockpit camera. For the orbit camera style of playing Z3D is probably the better option for the reasons you mentioned. But for the “simulator” crowd like me, playing it only from the cabin, 6DOF and G3D makes a huge difference. It’s just a much higher level of immersion compared to Z3D. The tractor cabin is small, and there you actually see great difference. It adds so much value for me that I am willing to take the performance hit and reduce graphics and render resolution, switch to D11 and even use TAA instead of DLSS. Its a sacrifice no doubt, but for many simulator style players certainly worth it.
Much appreciated, going now to test the new profile.

CrazyDolphinParticipantI recently completed Bioshock 2 Remastered, and overall had a great time. Observations are as follows:
– Played on a i7-8700, 16GB RAM. GTX1070Ti with a Valve Index (90Hz, Motion Smoothing On) while standing. I know my rig is old, but three words spell it out (kid in college).
– Played in Full VR with the only adjustments being the HUD display to see things like Health and Plasmid Levels, and deciding how much of the helmet was in my Feld of View.
– I played Remastered over the vanilla version because vanilla was causing so many game crashes I stopped playing the game. Remastered was much more stable for myself, but the visuals were not as clean as what the vanilla version provided. Remastered had its crashes as well, but far less than vanilla.
– Playing while being inside the helmet was great fun. I could actually lean forward with my head, and it felt like I was able to see more of the environment. This was fun because it made me feel like I was inside of the helmet, and greatly enhanced the immersive aspects of the experience.
– My biggest issues were that: (i) my hands/weapons felt too big, (ii) my default height felt too short (but was adjustable if memory serves), and (iii) the weapons had no collision detection, so they often went ‘into’ objects.
– Direct VR usage was essential, and really helped to stabilize the image, and made looking around in the Bioshock universe so enjoyable.
– There were often graphical issues, like where shadows did quite match with objects, or where background items had a different blackness level compared to nearby objects, but ultimately were non-issues before vorpX was able to put me in the Bioshock universe in a way that I enjoyed.I played Bioshock 1 on a flatscreen about three years ago, and had a great time. I’ve played the Bioshock-themed workshop level on Half-Life Alyx, and also had a great time. Bioshock 2 Remastered was better because I got to live in the world while experiencing a full campaign with an engaging storyline.

bravekatParticipantYeah, I’m going to have to ask you to elaborate on this.
Lol. I use the valve index hmd and did not like the uncomfortable pressure points and weight that happen inevitably with long sessions of gaming, so I developed a custom mod to alleviate these. I use this mod for seated 3d theatre mode in vorpx(immersive mode could work as well) or any other seated vr compatible game or app.
I use a studioform creative counter balance, with comfort head strap and a series of bungee cords small to large. Small end connected to the top strap of the hmd, large end connected to a hook in the ceiling. I tie knots in the bungee cords to control the height. I position the hook on the hmd top strap, forward or backward, to control the tilt(up or down).
I ended up with complete 180 degree horizontal weightless movement from side to side. Up and down movement are limited but if the hmd is on loosely, I can move my head inside to focus the sweet spot anywhere on screen. I actually removed the head gasket completely and moved the lenses as close as possible to my eyes, for ultra clarity and better sweet spot.
Looks a little ridiculous, but the comfort gained for long vr sessions is worth it for me.

lokiss88ParticipantController issues with the G2 are greatly exaggerated. Personally i have about 300hrs playing the likes of No Mans Sky, The Forest, Fallout 4, Skyrim, and numerous smaller titles with zero issues.
The only thing that’s actually bad about them is the awful haptics, which pretty much requires you to turn the feature off. FOV is tricky, more is better obviously, but it’s something very dependent on the game experience. I find it limiting and extremely obvious in flight sims, but not obvious at all when bearing down a race track in the cockpit of a car. General games where you on the centre of the screen you probably won’t notice it, or at least become accustom to it.
It probably is worth waiting on the next iteration though, certainly if you’re routed to a AMD system, or need that extra inside out tracking camera they’re adding to solve generic problems with inside out tracking.
Absolutely a great device for VorpX though. If you have the ability (a 3090) you can crank it up to 3k per eye in steamVR, which makes games that looked poor in VR previously much much better.

moarveerParticipantI tried the game today and the game looks fantastic in VR, managed to get it quite playable at 3200×2400 and FSR at full, it really looks great. The game has a big issue though, since the game menus are only rendered in one eye. I could only tweak the options inside VR using desktop mode in Virtual Desktop, and then going back to VR, so doable but really annoying.
