Ralf, I think this person is not very knowledgeable of terms, it looks like what he is saying is profiles for those games have only Z3D option but even with it the strength slider doesnt provide any actual 3d, essentially doesnt work.

I would recommend disabling all forms of antialiasing first, thats what prevents Z3D in most cases.

Anomaly works both z3d and g3d, but g3d has issues with some shadows I was unable to fix and more performance hungry than many modern games.

Damn, unity means no FOV fix in any way

Its opengl (tried quake profiles that hook, but no 3d), but I havent managed to find a profile with 3d, I managed to have some other software work in z3d, but not vorpx.

I dont remember which one was my base to go ue profile, but Ive tried it with many modern games to great success so I would recommend checking Ghostrunner or Ascend from the cloud and then replacing exe they hook to, high chance it will just work. You might need to drop a hook helper there though.

I usually play in immersive screen with no head tracking and I think I finished Naissancee like that, just having high fov, stereo and high resolution. Unfortunately dont remember what I did, but getting good resolution and fov at least is possible.

I was quite immersive with just that, but to answer at least one of your issues – in full vr mode you can get a but more comfortable by trying to adjust how far vorpx screen is from your face and trying aspect ratios it offers for full vr, though 1:1 usually is the best. Then with fov to find the right one you basically have to set it through ini, vorpx menu or 3rd party soft to some high values, check it in the headset and look around – if its too much you will imidiately notice it with corner of your eye, the distortion of too hight fov will be obvious, if its right it will look right if its distorted too much you will feel like edge of your vision moves more than it should.

I think he means he cant use gamepad to move camera up/down because profile has vertical locks only working with headtracking.

There is an option to enable vertical mouse look or something like that in second or third tab in options if you press del in game, not sure if it applies to gamepad too.

There have been many cases where people made profiles for games claiming there is 3D while there was none, sometimes making a profile yourself you have to argue with your own brain trying to trick you into thinking 3d is working, but usually if you need to question it there is no stereo view.

What Im saying is a lot of people “see 3d when there is none” using vorpx so its not rare, plus color red has a very unique property in vr that looks 3d, you can check it yourself usually very visible in desktop view on icons that have anything red in them, and thats just one visual illusion that tricks brain, there a lots of them and playing games in immersive screen beats monitor gameplay for sure, so ye, even if you cant get the game to be in 3d you can still enjoy it more in vr.

Does everything disappear or only objects on side of vision?

Often that happens when people use fov increase vorpx offers from another profile so you see more of a game but the game isnt aware you are and doesnt render objects outseide vanilla fov.

In any case there is nothing that can be dont either use g3d with issues or try z3d

I figured out how to get into the expert settings and mess with the shaders. Fixed the biggest of the weird distortion issues. The 3D FOV enhancement hack was also causing stretching issues I couldn’t fix, but I found out how to push the in-game FOV past the 110 limit through the config files so I don’t need the hack anymore. I’ll keep messing with the game and if I can manage to make a decent profile I’ll share it. Performance is rough though. Considering how well optimized the game is normally, maybe just a matter of more shader tweaking?

vorpx fov hax is not ideal, game still renders everything as if fov was not changed, like issue you had and object culling (things start to vanish at view edge)

    for fov I recommend
    – finding game config and changing it manually there (works for this game and beyond settings limit)
    – finding a trainer/mod for game fov
    – using uuu for unreal games to bring in console (works for this game), but it locks fov at same number for menus and cutscenes, where game usually changes fov dynamically
    – flawless widescreen profiles
    – cheat engine tables

thats all the tools that work to fix custom profile fov with vorpx, the built in fov adjust is only meant for official profiles with direct scan.

with all that I should add using z3d at really high res will look very similar to g3d and be more crisp and run smooth due to being cheaper plus no render issues. I play deep rock in 4k at 80 fps in z3d with high fov and barely see any artifacts.

Well you have profiles saved from another headset – there is a setting in game (del by default to bring it up) where you can adjust screen tilt – check it out and bring screen back down.

For vorpx only I’d recommend reverb. I have index and quest and its really hard to chose between resolution and quality – no matter what GPU you have quest even set on top quality with a cable will have the feel of compressed video – here and there there will be compression artifacts hidden in dark corners, some textures smeared into single color, overall image quality being a bit blurry even with sharpening.

This especially matets if you try to play a heavy modern game using Z3d and compression eats small objects like rain or pixel thin bullets or whatever too.

I do enjoy higher resolution of quest and compression isnt game breaking, but if index screens had quest resolution I wouldnt even think twice, but even with inferior pixels I chose index for number of games just to get sharper image and better 3d feel.

Oh and more juice you try to squeeze out of quest more chances image quality will degrade even further, like if you set supersampling to best it can do and 120hz you wont just get a bit of stuttering in games, compression artifacts will become worse too.

Considering HP device has higher resolution than index and you plan to only use vorpx I’d say there is no reason to chose quest apart from price or potential to play wireless.

Additionally this often happens due to 2 things – antivirus preventing 3rd party software sending input to applications or same will happen on windows due to security reasons if you run game as admin.

First is fixed by excluding vorpx from all possible AV categories, second – by selecting “run as admin” in vorpx options.

which engine can be similar to the witness?

“The Witness uses its own engine developed by Blow and his team…” but other game profiles might still work, usually generic game profiles and only in z3d
