So I’ve been playing The New Order with a gamepad (due to the sheer amount of the in-game actions, input can’t be properly/comfortably mapped to VR controllers, even with the “shift button” option). Everything worked, both gamepad and kb+m were active, though I always had minor issues when starting the game–it would prompt me to press “ENTER,” I would press “A” on the gamepad instead and the headset would go black / the window would lose focus on the desktop. I usually had to restart the game a few times to get it to work–but after the *massive* problems with Far Cry 4, that was peanuts.
Yesterday, overnight, it stopped working. No updates downloaded or installed, no settings changed. But now, if I press “ENTER” at the start of the game, kb+m is active and head tracks–but the gamepad doesn’t work, regardless of whether I enable or disable it in the settings. If I press “A” on the gamepad, kb+m gets disabled, and since Vorpx doesn’t support DirectVR scanning in Wolfenstein and maps head movements to mouselook, head tracking stops.
Now, Vorpx gamepad override works (great job there!), but the native mapping feels superior, so I would really love to go back to the way it was. Any ideas on how to do it / what’s happened? I may’ve accidentally pressed the “mode” button on the gamepad before it all happened, but I’m not sure anymore.
I’ve tried deleted the profile and downloading again, restarting the game, Vorpx, Steam, and Windows, etc.
Its not the game , your vopx has come along way , with all new features im asking more whats new with immersive screen ? i tried on a few other titles flawless as well no double image / ghosting using imerive screen setting , even in other titles you get head track judder /ghosting in full vr g3d etc always has been , if i can just use that immersive screen setting with full head track you wont hear from me again , and i think others would be happy with that option , yes not full 3d but as long as got 1 to 1 head tracking and able to someway lock that immersive screen to hmd so can see behind me fully , i would be more than happy
On my vive, I can turn off “async” and that prevents the whole “if you drop below 90 FPS at all it cuts the FPS in half down to 45” thing.
Now I have an oculus quest 2, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to shut it off. Any help would be appreciated. In VorpX settings, I am on Oculus as the device, but I am running the game through Steam VR and using Steam VR Runtime.
I know this is there for people who get motion sickness or whatever but it would be very much appreciated if the there was a very basic universal setting at the top of that page that gets rid of it completely no matter what headset your using. I know for Steam VR they call it asynchronous and then there is another big word for it for the Oculus. Please give a way to shut it off completely easily across all headsets without having to be a VR engineer. Gratzi.
Yes, thanks for checking on this! It’s great that theoretically it’s possible for z3d even though we can’t actually get the freakin’ game (legally). Ridiculous that it brings a 3080 to its knees. As much as I want to play it, reading the news on the disastrous launch is almost as entertaining.
I have a feeling it’s the CPU that is the bottleneck rather than the 3080 being brought to its knees, but Ralf is the expert here :)
These are my PC specs:
Monitor Resolution: 2560x1440p
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
RAM: 32GBs 3200Mhz (16-18-18-36)
GPU: RX 6800XT
Windows 10 Pro (Clean install)
NVME 2TBs HP EX920
Antivirus disabled
I’m trying to play Max Payne 3 with default profile
Every setting in the lowest possible value
Lowered resolution to 1920×1080 or even to 1200x720p
I’m getting 12FPS sometimes 20FPS
With Shadow of Tomb Raider (default profile) I’m getting 28 FPS
Obviously both games work with more than 100FPS without VORPX
Is this normal and expected? or what can I tweak in VORPX to get a enjoyable playtime?
Thanks!
Do you have the 5K Plus, XR, or Super? All of those should be pretty good HMDs, but I definitely get not wanting to fuss with the extra crap through PiTool / Experience.
I’ve worn quite a few HMDs, and unfortunately, as I’ve probably said, I feel so claustrophobic in all the standard HMDs that I’m pretty much stuck with Pimax for now.
I will say that in terms of overall image quality, my 8K-X is hands-down the best HMD I’ve ever tried. You can lookup plenty of non-fanboy through-the-lens comparisons if you want. Worth the investment for me, for sure.
But anyway, I did notice when I moved from the 5K+ to the 8K-X my performance through vorpX titles stayed *identical.* I don’t know why this should be, but I expect you are pushing the same number of pixels to the 8K-X as you did to my 5K+, even though I’m running the 8K-X in native mode (not upscaled). I’m not complaining, and you probably shouldn’t change how it’s currently working, as it looks very good and performs well. I just thought I would mention it in case it’s relevant for future versions of vorpX.
Since this is beneficial info for everyone trying to create profiles for games that can’t handle simultaneous mouse and gamepad input – and as you noted also a fairly common source of confusion, I’ll leave the thread here.
vorpX comes with a fully configurable built in gamepad > mouse/kb mapper. That’s the solution for using a gamepad together with mouse based head tracking whenever a game can’t handle native gamepad and mouse at the same time. In official profiles it typically is enabled if necessary, but if you create a profile yourself and discover a game can’t handle simultaneous mouse and gamepad input, you have to configure it yourself.
You can enable it on the Input page of the vorpX menu, the option is called ‘Xbox Gamepad Override’. You can either override everything (Full) or sticks and buttons separately (Partial). Most of the time a full override will be necessary, but if you’re lucky just overriding the offending stick can suffice occasionally, which – if it is enough – spares you the button remapping.
Once configured the gamepad essentially acts as mouse/kb, so mouse based head tracking and a gamepad can be happily used together even if a game itself doesn’t support that.
I was trying to play Observer today (original not Redux) with Vorpx and my Xbox One gamepad and it was just an absolute exercise in frustration. Sometimes the gamepad would seem to work fine. And then–without me changing anything at all–all the buttons on my gamepad would just stop working. I could move with the joysticks but couldn’t interact with anything. Then other times, the joysticks would also stop working, and I couldn’t even move. I was just completely stuck.
I understand that this is probably related to the fact Vorpx uses mouse controls for headtracking and sometimes games get confused between m/keyboard input and gamepad input … but what is the solution for me as a Vorpx user? How am I supposed to get around this problem? Do I just need to disable head tracking completely or is there another way to fix it?
Whether there is or is not a solution, I feel like there should be a stickie in the forum about this issue because it seems to be a long standing one that isn’t limited to just me. A google search for “vorpx gamepad controls seem broken” will get you an endless series of hits like those below:
Was something changed with gamepad settings?
Gamepad unusable with VorpX. Switches to keyboard controls
Skyrim gamepad Y-Axis broken after VorpX update
Head Tracking breaks when using a controller in some games
Update broke input?
Etc.
Ralph can we get a stickie on potential work arounds for this problem?
observer that was initially released had a hidden vr mode enabled via console, as for redux you can never know if it was because its impossible or no one had patience enough to try every profile possible. Finally it can be running dx12, in which case only cyberpunk profile might work if you are very lucky.
Yes, VR via a launch argument, I have the original with the VR-supported first patch but I still get major artifacts in the right eye. For others, it seems that the issue goes away after the intro, but even after altering graphical settings it persists for me. Other than that, it works pretty well, so truly a missed opportunity on the devs. A few bug fixes and it would’ve been one of the most immersive VR experiences. I’ll have to check out the VorpX profile for it sometime.
System Redux does support DX11, so I’m hopeful some kind of VorpX support could be implemented as it was for the original.
There has to be something that gets in the way. vorpX can hook into the game just fine as shown in your log, but then before it can even fully initialize the game exits for without even a trace of an error in the log.
The only thing left to suggest is trying to diable the Steam/Origin overlay, in case you haven’t done that already. Shouldn’t be necessary, but can’t hurt. Aside from that there isn’t anything left to suggest.
Are you sure z3d is even on? Some game settings can disable it even in official profiles, settings like AA, its best to set every possible game settiing to minimum, test if z3d has obvious depth feel, if you have to ask yourself if you see depth then most likely its not working, working depth feel is obvious.
After you get it working and set graphics back to good except whatever disables z3d, then you have to set resolution to as higha s you can handle and fov at above 100 degrees, I prefer it around 120, but its overdone in most games at that value.
Resolution and fov are two best ways to make z3d look good, having no antialiasing at all can help too, will preserve small details better.
Hi all,
I’m running into an issue with the official Deathloop profile. Z3D is fine and all, but on my Oculus it works well when it’s 100% by default, but if I make a single setting modification (simple stuff like ambient background or even xbox override binds because those are pretty bad by default), I get a strange performance/freeze loop the next time I play, until I reset fully again.
I’ve made myself about 10 profiles in the past 3 years, with great success, and always find the best I can do with Vorpx’s tonnes of settings. Since the official profile seems buggy, I would love to make my own profile, but now I get the annoying warning about the exe being used already (like in this recent thread: https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/remove-assigned-program-to-add-to-another-profile/)
Instead of troubleshooting the official profile, I would love to be able to make my own profile, like I did for many other games, but renaming the exe prevents it from launching with Steam.
1) Is there ANY solution for the exe thing? THAT’S the biggest problem if you ask me.
2) Otherwise, any suggestions to fix/present the freeze > low fps > smooth fps loop?
* Yes, I tried safe sync mode, I tried FluidSync, nothing works – it just makes things worse actually
* No, performance is not an issue at all when using the reset official profile
* Passing through SteamVR destroys the performance. I go from capped 90fps via Oculus to stuttering 30-60, so it’s not an option sadly.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, because I can see that it works well with the game, but something breaks it if I do not fully reset every time I want to play it. I’ve put 120 hours into this game and am not about to pass on an opportunity to spend the next 200 in VR ;)
Thanks!
Your option REALLY worked for me! I used the hook helper like you said from Destiny 2. It took some time to download but whatever. Once Vorpx asked if I’d like to use a hook helper I said yes. I then copied the version.dll file and placed it in the FFXIV Game Folder. Once I did that I found the Nier Automata Game Profile on Vorpx Cloud and made a look alike profile from it and then added the FFXIV_DX11.exe to the profile so it could hook. I also excluded ffxivlaucher.exe from Vorpx picking it up and trying to hook to it.
THEN IT WORKED! Also I’ve uploaded the version.dll file (the alternate hooking method) to one of my google drives. So if anyone is having a hard time getting it I can send the link.
ALSO, Want to know the solution to typing in chat in VR in FFXIV?!! You need to Purchase OVR Toolkit from Steam and then you will be able to load a virtual keyboard in your space where you play the game. You can then type in chat without taking off your HMD! The keyboard even has a feature where you can Speak-to-Text. SO chatting in FFXIV without typing just your voice!!!!
I had same problem earlier no matter what I tried it wouldn’t load in steamvr at all (not even steam theater mode).
I had to get VorpX to install a special hook helper and then next time I started it I finally saw it in steamvr. I don’t know how you’re really supposed to do it so maybe someone with more experience can chime in but when the game was starting and it popped the little “hooking forzahorizon5.exe” window I dragged that to my second monitor and at some point it popped up an advanced dialog where I could select to install the hook helper. It took a long time for that advanced dialog to pop up and I can’t remember if it was after I exited the game or not
